  1. Icy as anything this morning, all that rain froze solid, and now it's raining again. Still absolutely baffled how it didnt fall as snow yesterday
  2. The water on the ground is freezing, no snow and all set up for an ice rink in the morning. Love from Shropshire which was the tourist office slogan a few years ago! No seriously it was. It rained here even at higher elevations, snowed in Cheshire and Staffs and Brummieland and Evesham (which I thought was the no snow capital of the "West Midlands" based on Essan's posts) but just rained until we had half an hour of non-sticking snow when it was too late....
  3. According to Roger Brugge's site the dewpoint at Shawbury was -3 at noon and -5 at 6pm, it rained between those hours when it rose to +0.7 at 3pm, that's Shropshire. Now the light snow has stopped but it wasnt heavy or long lasting enough to leave anything, it's still wet roads and wet cold.
  4. The dewpoints seemed low enough round here today. But yes I have seen snow at 5C+ in April and rain at 0.5C in winter, even at -1C in Feb (yes you 2012) but today didnt seem like one of those. And now it is actually snowing! But it's much lighter than the precip earlier and will struggle to stick at all as the ground is soaked and has probably warmed up thanks to that blasted rain
  5. It was snowing in Liverpool, that's further west than here? Wrexham apparently had the rain though. Friday night we got nothing when the west had the colder air, albeit it wasnt as cold to start with and we missed the heavy stuff unlike today. It's usually when it's not really forecast that we get the best snow!
  6. And the cold rain continues. For sure it feels cold enough to snow, some of the puddles still had ice on them this afternoon. But Shropshire has pulled off another inexplicable weather fail.
  7. That would make sense if it had rained in the E and S Midlands where it started around the same time as here, but it snowed there too! It's very weird. In the way down it did briefly turn wintry but was back to rain when I was back in the car park at 150m (if it had stayed as snow the timing theory would also make sense with it getting dark)
  8. This is on top of Grinshill (190m) half an hour ago. Raining up there and green as far as the eye can see. On the way down it did briefly turn wintry with sleet and wet snowflakes in a heavier burst but is back to rain now in the car park at 150m. 20211128_154411.mp4
  9. On top of Grinshill, 190m above sea level 8 miles N of Shrewsbury. All rain here and green as far as can see (the Wrekin doesn't seem to have any snow) 20211128_154411.mp4 20211128_154047.mp4
  10. Rain getting heavier. Well done Shropshire, well done again
  11. Raining again... thought surely this would have some wintriness seeing as we're in colder air than Friday Oh and just heard on the radio its snowing at the Etihad in Manchester- lower than here and much more built up
  12. Definitely lower dps today, roads have dried and wind feels much cooler. So why did it snow in Staffs/Black Country but not Shropshire, even at over 200m? Probably because we had very little precipitation here, despite the wind direction favouring a Cheshire Gap setup, so it couldn't do the evap cooling but anything that falls tonight has to be wintry.
  13. Power has just gone off, flickered and come back on for now. Not seen sustained wind like this since 2013-14 winter, though those 15 minutes of mayhem in Nov 2016 will always rule when it comes to causing damage round here. Still the rain is only light to moderate (albeit horizontal) and not seen any sleet or snow.
  14. Very windy but no snow and only light rain here. Despite what the radar says all the heavy stuff seems to be miles away but the wind is stronger than forecast
  15. Raining with a pressure of 1034hPa. That's impressive even for Britain... the sunny high was nice for the 2 days it lasted, just managed a frost in the evening before it filled with muck.
  16. Oh yes November 2015, only one of the first 12 days had any sunshine. Thick fog and 10-12C while over in Wales it was 21 and sunny. As you say it wasnt classic frosty autumn/winter fog but mild gunk.
  17. Sun is out! Still have that cool wind but at last some proper daylight
  18. Avoided most of the grot over the weekend but it's back with a vengeance today. Can't remember seeing North Sea crud reaching so far west before
  19. In the clear slot at last! Sun came out about 10 and is still out
  20. It's trying to come out, maybe had about 5 minutes of sunshine so far. Still 7/8 overcast though
  21. Nearly 4pm and still no sign of it burning off. I'd have thought that with the sea being at its warmest in late summer, North Sea muck would have more difficulty forming at all compared to spring/early summer let alone spreading right across Britain.
  22. More gunk today, cleared up at 2pm but will it today? That mass of cloud seems exactly where the clearance was yesterday, unbelievable to see North Sea muck reach the west Welsh coast
  23. If we break high pressure records and still get hardly any sunshine it's the final straw for modern Augusts! What will we have to do to get a sunny one....
  24. Sunshine? Had light rain on and off since 7am and still totally overcast. Apart from the unexpected thunder shower last Thursday it has been a really tedious month
  25. Overall about equal to 2001 though slightly different: 2001 had a few 3-day hot spells, a few rubbish days and lots of "average" 20-24C partly sunny with the odd shower weather. 2021 has had a couple of 7-10 day warm spells in between long periods of cloudy rubbish, with a few "average" days. 2001 was much better for thunder and connective weather, it was wetter and sunnier than 2021 so far. But overall both in the "average" category. Definitely better than 2011 which had what we have now almost continuously for 3 months, save an occasional day or half-day that got into the mid-20s and one surprise night time storm in August. The only real summer weather came in late Sept and early Oct.
