Just a chance of something thundery. If anything happens post your reports here.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Looks like the thundery showers are not going to materialise. Convection seems to have reduced significantly since 1pm in the north-east....damn it.
EDIT - Although there are a few isolated cells developing, mostly hugging the East coast, with the odd rogue one likely to come inland...i think its going to be very hit and miss.
-
Just had a very heavy downpour....lasted for 5 minutes and died out suddenly.
-
Heavy showery rain...just heard a crack of thunder towards the East...
-
In Durham: -
9C....
8mph N/W....
Relative Humidity = 70%
Pressure 1020 - rising very slowly
-
Yea...early autumn and spring are the seasons in which we normally get lots of abrupt blustery convectional showers because of the north-westerly wind is more predominant at that time. It's also because of the position of the gulf stream, lower air pressure and increased convergence from cooler polar maritime atlantic air mixing with the warmer plumes still lingering to the south.
-
I would prefer to call it a blustery thundery shower than a 'storm'...it was suprisingly brief and only lasted for 10 mins. The rain came down in random bursts rather than a sustained downpour...but there were 4 claps of thunder and some sheet lightning. Very localised...
-
Just had a sharp shower here in Durham with about 4 claps of thunder. Impressive!
Quite hefty but very isolated shower....has drifted off the Durham coast.
-
Brief shower here in Durham...very isolated one as well.
moderate intensity bursts....only lasted for 3-4 mins...
-
Wind has changed direction from a NW to a Westerly...humidity at 66% and temperature at 16C. There are some notable anvils developing towards the south-west.
-
Glorious clear blue sky...gentle north-westerly breeze with a few towers building to the south-east. Pressure 1016 mb (falling), temp. 15C and with 85% humidity (falling steadily).
-
I think areas of North-East England and areas north of north Yorkshire will remain embedded in low cloud and drizzle for much of the day...especially near the coast.
-
Here in Durham...we have a cold north-easterly breeze, its quite gentle though mostly.
Heavy drizzle and thick cloud with a temperature of 13C...it feels cold, but humidity is very high. I actually quite like this weather!!!
-
Here in Faversham, kent, it is 23c, got upto 24c already but keeps clouding over, sun is breaking through for longer periods though.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Temp. here in Durham is 17C with 80% humidity...Rain since dawn but it has mostly been light and patchy with the odd sharp burst. Generally...Durham is a very boring climate...

We need 'weeks' of rain to make a substantial difference?
That's utter rubbiDoh a dumb swear filter got the better of me
Don't rely on groundwater! Just collect the water in reservoirs and store it in an efficient way. And i reckon that people waste too much water anyway.

Heavy, thundery showers developing...
-
As the sun comes out in County Durham, i can see considerable convection developing towards the Durham and Wear coastline. Could be some localised cells developing by 5pm. Brisk NW wind. If we have enough sunny interludes, could have a sharp shower.

I reckon there is a 30% risk of heavy showers here in the north-east of england this afternoon.
