  1. Further eastward shifts as opposed to westward ones so far this morning - twists and turns!
  2. People keep talking about a shift west with the ppn but we have seen no such thing in the models so far - consistently showing East Midlands AND EA and SE pasted, every run in the past 24 hours has shown a long period of snow across the whole SE with heavier snow at first but then a more sustained period of lighter snow - with no sign of front stalling further west. So very exciting times imo! Of course it will be a case of nowcasting once the front moves in, and seeing where it stalls etc, potential for a touch further west but not drastically so imo.
  3. GFS still showing snow hitting EA and SE and just staying there... it has shifted the cold (and snow risk) west but without ppn missing this region. I can't see it shifting far enough west to leave EA dry, but we'll see!
  4. Ipswich - top temp of 0oC today and currently -10oC dew points! First ice day of the winter for most of us.
  5. ICE warning is valid this evening with threat of further snowfall for easternmost parts of the region: SNOW warning valid for tomorrow across more of EA, 2 to 5cm possible: SNOW warning valid for whole region Sat evening/night/Sunday morning - upto 10cm (although some places will see more no doubt):
  6. Meto warnings released for light snow for eastern parts of EA tonight, causing ice tomorrow - 2 to 5cm more widely across EA Friday night and 5 to 10cm widely across whole region on Sat night/Sun - exciting times ahead for the region! I would imagine they are hedging their bets - some places where the front stalls will see more than 10cm I'm sure. The detail however is not easy to forecast and it will be a case of now-casting on Sat!
  7. Meto warnings start as early as light snow for eastern EA tonight, 2 to 5cm on Friday night more widely across EA but upto 10cm overnight on Sat into Sun for the whole area - exciting times ahead for the region!
  8. Snowing but not settling in Ipswich, but first snow of the year
  9. First snow of the year in Ipswich, temps down to 1oC!
  10. And they have just hit Ipswich.... thunder, lightning & rain.
  11. Got a dusting from it in NW Ipswich, i was also covered in it by the time I got in my house.
  12. It's snowing in Ipswich, has been since 5pm.... nothing on the radar, or anywhere near! All previous snow melted today, but there is now a dusting again with snow falling.
  13. There are places in England that are still -12oC at midday! Todays figure should be impressive.
  14. Having re-read the article (and forgetting it is only December and a whole extra month to go) I have edited the post to confirm the last 12 months have been the coldest 12 month period since 1996. Who knows how cold this year will end up if we see the cold continuing..
  15. http://www.dailymail...o=feeds-newsxml The Met-Office has annouced that the last 12 months have been the coldest 12 months in Britain since 1996 - bucking the world trend.
  16. Luckily I'm not easily offender...however it won't be fun for those areas that get hardest hit. Madeira has already had a deadly storm, this will only add to it. I have a colleague who lives there who was trapped in his house with a metre of water out the front, he escaped to the top floor. Thats how bad the storm there was, and a week later it will hit the island again! That is no joke!
  17. Parts of Essex were already submerged under water last night as heavy rainfall caused localised flooding. Essex Fire Service was called to a flooded street in Chelmsford to help prevent homes being damaged by the overflowing water. This was the second time in four days that the fire service had been called to this spot. 18. Firstly, and even though this isn't what I expect or forecast, and without scare-mongering, thats exactly the kindof attitude people had before '87. Now Im not suggesting we will get a repeat, but that doesn't mean the potential is there for slightly worse than is currently progged. But worse than this, the ground is already so saturated that many places in EA for example simply wont cope with the amount of rain this will provide. There are areas of Chelmsford, Essex where sandbags are currently protecting houses against flooded streets. The weekends rain will only add pressure in these areas - the risk of flooding is very worrying imo, considering its already an issue across the SE due to the vast amount of rain we have already seen. Certainly gotta keep an eye on it! PRECISELY!
  19. Heavest snow of the winter here, can hardly see across the road! Coming down thick and fast and the wind is atrocious!!
  20. Last few dont day's arent progged to be mild though...so very outside chance of sub 1 as you say!
  21. Maybe we will be pleasantly suprised and it can end with a 'sort-of' bang, I'm not concerned about temps - they are dropping to around freezing now, with dewpoints just below. Just need the ppn to get here... radar actually looks more promising than I thought it would!
