  1. Hi BL.

Yes we did have a dumping and its still coming down although its tapered off a wee bit now. I watched the BBC weather video and saw how much snow East Anglia was getting and I would have been pleased as punch to get over 10 cms and they always seem to get the amounts wrong anyways so theres probably more than that. We would have already of built our snowman and walked the dogs several times by now.

I hope everyone who got snow in the Uk are enjoying it.

  3. Cold air flooding south across the Great Lakes today and tomorrow will bring further heavy lake effect snowfalls, some places west of London ON have seen 15-30 inches already and expect the same amount in the next 36h.

The weak low that led in this cold air, an Alberta clipper as they are called in North America, is about to explode into a strong low east of New Jersey tonight, and by late Friday through Saturday will be bringing a near-blizzard to parts of NB, NS, and PEI ... Newfoundland remains on the mild east side of the storm track as per the last two of these.

Debs, you could get 10-20 cms from this, and very gusty NE winds. It should be around -4 C for the storm.

    Hi Guys,

Yes its pretty cold here today, temps not above -3 with windchill even colder. Had a sample of snow Wednesday, our first real session o fhte winter. Forecast here is looking good for snow tommorow so I am off to wax my sledge.....lol

Hubby in Ontario at present and he says its came down pretty hard yesterday and at least a foot in depth.

Bring it on. Sorry guys, I love the snow :-)

  4. Realwinter like weather is still reluctant to kick in here in Southern Alberta. After a few cm's at the weekend, we are back to temps around 12oC with a chinook coming in yesterday. Very pleasant. Ski hills are just open but struggling. Here's to a few snowsotrms in the next few weeks...cold snap at the end of November me thinks

    PS - 87 cents a liter now

Had our first dusting of snow here this morning with more forecast. Nothing as significant as last year. Wish we had Torontos snow. Temps are chilly with a windcholl of -9. Overnight temps down to -7. Had a mega storm here at the weekend. Will post fotos later.

Gas down to 84 cents a litre and set to drop again on Wednesday. Good thing.

  5. Always a bit higher here than in Alberta, maybe $1.07 ... although I have been on propane for ages and that's been steady at 79 cents ... well, we have the steady rain here, not too torrential thankfully, so flooding at a minimum so far, not a pineapple in sight either. Very cold up Alaska-Yukon-NWT way again. This seems to be building and biding its time. I don't think the deep freeze will materialize for western Canada until very late November or first half of December.

    Hi Roger,

Here on the East coast we are down to 96 cents a litre but I know in Toronto its alot lower.

Weather here at present has been good, the odd snow flurries which looked more like dandruff but thats about it. Halloween was pretty nippy but last night we had Guy Fawkes night celebration and got all dressed up warm and snug, only to find night time temps in the mid teens. Pretty good night and here in St Martins we might start a tradition.

Weather outlook for the next few days look dismal and rainy. I'm hoping for he snow to come soon, I really enjoyed last winter.

    Well off to work......:-(

  6. Very cold air spilling out of the Canadian arctic to affect 2/3rds of the US getting as far south as Florida. Very potent thrust with lake effect snow. This cold is potent and normally isn't expected until well into November.

    Hi Blast,

Just saw your post and wondered if it will effect anything here in the maritimes? We've had a few snow flurries this past week but nothing major. My husband said Quebec and Buffalo New York has had a dumping already, which is a little earlier than last year.

Only curious as its almost halloween and just owndering what the kids should wear, costumes or snow suits.....lol

Pretty windy day here at the moment, and pretty darn cold too. Travelling to work a couple of times this week and had a frost to scrape off the windshield. not risen much above Freezing on 2 occasions. Thata about my news.

  7. Morning,

Well slight chill to the air last night again but the sun is shining and the skies are clear of any clouds. Outside temps are 17 degrees at present although my deck temps are readin 28 degrees out of the sun.

Looks like we are set for quite a few days of the same. Leaves have changed color quicker than they did last year, from what I can remember, so everything looks nice and colorful again outdoors.

  8. Hello all,

Well still here, so thats a good thing. Weather last night was quite exciting. Horizontal rain and trees bending all over the place, but thankfully no damage here. Nova Scotia on the other hand, got it alot worse.

Managed to get a video, but quite frankly it didn't do the winds speed justice, never mind, still exciting to witness and the waves were hitting the road that runs along side my house to the beach, they didn't make ot to the house though, thank goodness.....lol

Lovely weather, all the same, heres hoping for some more, theres just something so amazing about strong winds, actually feeling the force of mother nature....know what I mean????

Weather is bright today, would have thought nothing happened last night, and its muggy again too!

    Anyways TTFN

  9. Debs, are you still near Saint John NB? ... I think Kyle will come ashore west of there about 0500h local time on Monday. There will be some wind gusts to near 70-80 mph in a narrow band just to the east of where it makes landfall but you're more likely to see 40-50 mph, as well as another 50-100 mms of rain. The rain you've had so far is from a separate frontal system that was already coming along before Kyle got its name a couple of days back. But there won't be much of a break from this rain to Kyle's rain.

Anyway, I'll keep a close eye on it and post again later Sunday afternoon as to the updated track, however, I'm sure the local media will be showing this in detail by Sunday night (at which time Kyle should be in the Gulf of Maine).

As to the rainy mild winter, you can see your share of snow in that pattern, a lot of the storms will start with snow and change over to rain in New Brunswick in a pattern like that. Water temps seem to be running 2-4 C above normal around Newfoundland so I expect these storms to be pretty wound up at times.

    Hi Roger,

Just had a warning on the radio that the tropical storm was upgraded to a hurricane with gusts over 100km and heavy rain, Report said it should be hitting Saint John around early hours of Monday.

Will take caution I guess and stock up the water. We'll see what develops. My cat is acting pretty strange though!!!! Could it be true they can sense things...lol

Not sure what the tides are around that time but I am about 50 yards from the ocean so will see some pretty fierce seas. Will try and get some photos or video.

  10. Debs, good timing that you are back on because Kyle is heading for the region, landfall (as a strong TS or weak cat-1 hurricane) is currently predicted to be near the Maine-NB border on Sunday night, but within the uncertainty of this track it could easily be closer to your location, and in any case heavy rain is likely on Sunday and Monday through the region (again).

Personally I think you may be in for a mild, wet winter with the snow held back into February and March, mostly rain for the earlier portions.

    Hi Roger,

Cheers for the heads up on Kyle....will get things sorted in case power goes out. Its raining today so thats probably part of Kyle as well.

Not too keen on your prediction for my snow, I'm a snow lover and the thought of rain is depressing, but at least I know we'll have some.

  11. Hi Guys,

Thanks for the warm welcome back.....of course I shall shower you with fotos, but it looks like the UK may be getting its share of snow too.....or is this just another hype?

Weather here is warmer than of late, Morning temps were 10C so perhaps this is the "Indian Summer" effect the locals were mentioning. Best make the most of it if it is.

    Take care

  12. Hello again everyone,

Not been on this most of the summer, weather here was hot. We had a week of bad weather which just happened to appear when the inlaws came over.....talk about timing, but even then it wasn't raining just overcast and muggy. No thunderstorms at all for me this year.

Ike took its toll on us with flooding in Saint John, we had over 100mm in less that 24 hours, it actually washed up an old railroad that used to run along the coast here in St MArtins, some 100 years ago. The locals say that the tide line was much further out then. Last year we were hit with the tail end of a hurricane (can`t remember its name) and we lost power, this time it was just flooding.

Weather here is getting chilly, last week Saint John dipped below freezing and we had -2 here yesterday morning. Day time temps are hitting around 18 degrees. Now last year I remember it being so much warmer, we arrived last August and so saw the end of summer, but this year seems to be cooler, I even remember writing that I'd caught the sun and that was in October.

Just wondering if this is a good sign for another snow filled Winter this year and will it start early. Last year it snowed on December 1st and we never saw the grass again till March/AprilÉ

Nice to see all the familiar names on here again.

  13. Hi all,

Wow some fantastic footage of the storms. I've not been on here for a while as the weather here has not been that dramatic, just days of sunshine followed by a day of rain. Not that I am complaining. Its nice to see rain after so much sun, plus you get that really lovely smell when the rain hits the hot concrete......anyone no what I mean.???

Weather for the weekend not looking to promising however, but according to local weather station, this summer is set to be above normal......not sure how they predict that but certainly going to enjoy it.

  14. Hi All,

Heres a photo of one of the many humming birds that are flying around my garden. Having never seen them before in the UK I thought that Canada had huge flying bugs when one flew past me as I was hanging out my washing the other day. I was quite relieved when my friend told me that it was a humming bird otherwise I may never have left my house all summer

Anyway, not the clearest of pictures. Taken full zoom and on sport mode to try and capture the wings and I had to stand still for ages till the darn thing came out to feed.

I guess this is none weather....

    Enjoy.

  15. Hi all.

Weather here pretty much the same as last time. Its still quite cold at night but not below freezing again thankfully. Daytime temps are good. The heatwave we had last week has gone and been replaced with normal temps. Even so sun is strong and I already have a coloring. Quite a dull day today, which makes a nice change. Bay of Fundy looks quite rough so I guess its pretty windy as well as dull (not yet been outside to confirm). I've actually had to turn the heating up for the first time in a couple of weeks today, so its probably nippy outside too.

Saw the snow in Alberta...WOW. Has it gone yet?

    Catch you all later

  16. Hi all,

Its looking to be very nice here for a while. Temps are definately rising. No more snow here at all and grass is turning green. The snowdrops and daffs are growing nicely. The long range forecast is for 14 days of sunshine, heres hoping it comes off. Temps are set to rise into the mid 20s by end of week into next week. A little way off yet, but better start preparing the BBQ just in case :yahoo:

  17. Hello Peeps,

Beautiful weather here for the last 3 days. sun index is getting higher, I actually got sunburn on my face yesterday and the temps were only 11 degrees at most, but he sun is hot. I remember one time in England it was February and we were laying down on a blanket in a field, theres was no wind there, but just at the end of the field was a huge hedge and people were walking past iwth hats and scarves on. Thats the only other time I can say I've experienced the suns power so early on in the year.

Hope UK enjoyed all the lovely snow.

  18. Greeting from up north "Hicksville" lol

Weather getting warmer. At 5 degrees it feels positively balmy, went for a walk along beach with the sun at my back...bliss.

Its been a great winter here and although the reports of snow are only reported locally, we've had over 3 meters of snow this season. Temps are set to stay above freezing and I see something on the forecast that I have never seen here, and that is 3 days of rain in a row. Good old April showers I guess.

All I can say is, I am looking forward to the summer to see what that brings. My husband was here last summer alone and he said they have the most incredible thunder and lightening storms, so something to look forward to there.

  19. Hello peeps,

We've had snow all day here today and its expected to last into wee hours of the morning. Must have had about 10cms so far and its the good sticky stuff that makes a great snowman. May have a few flurries tomorrow but nothing too drastic. Its ben a long winter over here, apparently, so I guess we chose a good year to emigrate.

Next week is set to stay above freezing so I'm gonna dig my bikini out just in case ;);):D

  20. Hi Guys,

Bitterly cold again today -10 presently. We've had double digit sub zero for a few days now. Had a lovely "Ice Storm" last Thirsday and I managed to fall on my but a couple of times. I've attached a foto of ice on washing line and you can see the thin layer of ice on branches on trees. Not a perfect picture but should give you an idea. Think the ice made it to about 1.5 cm in a few hours.

Glad to see the UK had a good helping of snow this weekend. Hope you all enjoyed it. ;)

  21. Debs, watch out for the clipper system coming out of the States, headed your way Thurs. It will pick up energy over Gulf of Maine and hit NB and Newfoundland quite hard. The big one to watch though is headed your way for Sunday, could be a full blown blizzard by the time it hits you.

    Cheers Yozzer,

Twas nice to see the grass for a while but snow is better.... :-) Just as well I never put the sledge away just yet.

    LOL

Love it Canadiancoops. I remember when I first got here it was over a month before we got rain and even then it was only a little, but to go so long without rain actually made it quite pleasant to see.

  23. Hi guys,

Well day 2 of glorious sunshine after the weekend rains. Still have an ice rink in the garden as temps are below freezing. (video attached of my 10 year old skating, not too bad considering she only started skating a few weeks ago, hopefully its viewable)

This morning it was -13 here. Temperature on the deck at the moment is readin a mighty +23 degrees so the sun is most definately warming, sadly this isn't the actual temperature but I can see why some people do sit outside on their decks at this time of year, that sunshine is gorgeous and although it doesn't feel like the +23 its does'nt feel like the -7 either.
