Finally! Some rumbles. And some good ones at that.
-
Trying to listen out for distant thunder but efforts hampered somewhat by the RAF down at Odiham taking their chinooks out for a bit of night flying. Still some very vivid lightning. The theme seems to be orange to the east, white to the south east and blue to the south.

Looks like maybe you got some Lightning out to the West of you as well now.
Possibly but my view to the west is blocked by a thick tree line so can't confirm. Some great flashes to the east, very bright and orange in hue.

Can anyone confirm if they just heard Thunder towards Heathrow sort of way, Lightning Map has a couple of strikes a lot closer to home than I expected.
I saw lightning off in that direction a few minutes ago. There's a lot of lightning to my east, so your south east. Can't hear any thunder for definite yet, may have heard a very, very distant rumble before but not sure.
-
Starting to see a fair amount of lightning off to the east at the moment. It's quite cool here at the moment too.

Wow! So much lightning to the NE, nearly every second.
I can see the same thing from Basingstoke. It's faint, but near constant.

Lots of planes holding to get into heathow on runway 09
Yeah there's a BA A320 that's circled over my house twice in the last 15 mins still waiting to get in.

Just had a cracking CC flash to the north. Seems to be really kicking off on the back edge now.
-
The storm has now cleared to the north. Getting distant rumbles still but the rain has eased considerably and the sky is starting to clear to the south.
-
Rain has perked up again. Wizzing it down outside at the moment and some very vivid flashes to the east and north east.
-
Frequent pink IC lightning and torrential rain here. The rain is just about starting to ease.

So the odds of this heading to Reading are pretty good now?
Yeah I'd say so. It's heading my way, which it seldom does, so I reckon you've got a good chance. Keep an eye on the activity between New Alresford and Alton, I think that will be heading this way.

Got a visual on lightning now. The view to the south south west is quite poor from my house, marred by a thick tree line, but orange flashes seen over the top of it. Thunder getting more frequent and louder now.

Just hearing the first rumbles of thunder here. Sky to the south is a nifty hint of battleship grey.

Calling it a night here as all we're getting is the odd rumble and flash. Thundery rain. Deep joy. Happy stormwatching and if it does perk up a bit here I'll be back.

Just heard a deep roll of thunder here in Basingstoke.

Dont think its splitting, but im no expert, but its deff growing in size
Yep definitely. Look at the line of cells in the Cotentin Peninsula ahead of the main area of activity which has sprung up in the last 15 minutes.
Got the camera prepped and ready here, popped out earlier to recce a nearby suitable and safe photography spot with great views to the south and east. Should be able to get a few decent lightning pictures if luck is on my side.

Woken about 15 minutes ago to a glorious sunrise in the east, rain overhead and loud deep rumbles from an angry looking sky to the south and west. Looks like the next hour or two could be interesting here.
-
Is it just my eyes deceiving me or on the radar run back from 0035 to now, is there a hook echo right in the middle of that line of storms?
-
Getting more lightning and thunder here although it's not being picking up on Lightningmaps.org The latest ones were around 3-4 miles away. Although I was woken out of the blue by the loudest cannon fire (it's the best word I can describe it as) thunder I've heard in a long time around 10 mins ago. Again, no detection.
EDIT: Ah, there we are. A couple of flashes in conjunction with some sferic detection.

Something on the go in Essex in the Chelmsford area. Anyone got eyes on it?

Anyone from Basingstoke still on here?
Yeah I'm still loitering.

It's all quietened down here. Can clearly see the Bracknell and Maidenhead cells flashing away to the north east but I think the main action is perhaps over with here. Still, managed to photograph around a dozen lightning bolts of which 3 are really nice. Really happy with the results given this was my first time trying to photograph lightning in earnest (as opposed to Ernest, our local baker, who I'm sure wouldn't be keen on having lightning photographed inside him).

Meant to type south west not north west.
Most lightning here is now to the west and south west; exactly where I don't want it to be as I can't see a thing in that direction due to the damn trees at the back of the house. Anyhow, got this rather impressive beast a little earlier over to the east. And yes, before anyone says, the camera internals do need a good clean.
