  1. I'll just post this on here as I can't find another thread for this week, but we have a little bit of sleet here in Alness today, mainly blusterly rain showers but we have had hail and sleet. I can't see the tops of the mountains due to the cloud base, but I would imagine it is snow up there today. I don't have a themometer here at work, but I would imagine we are in the low single figures.
  2. PT - I was travelling up from Kirkcauldy last night and from Dalwhinnie onwards got no faster than about 30 mph, the snow drifts were closing in on the A9 - I wouldn't be surprised if it was closed overnight. But we came through that blizzard you mentioned. My wife was stayed home yesterday and she said from about 5pm-8Pm they had the blizzard, which dumped about 5" of snow... Nioce and clear now though, but still very cold
  3. Something wierd happened over night. As I said in an a post last night we had about 5" of snow and it was still snowing when I went to bed about 11.30. I got up and had a look out the window about 4.30 this morning and it had all but gone, there was still a bit of slush around but next to no snow, so tucked myself back in bed, then when I got up about 8am there was another 2" of fresh snow on top of what was now frozen slush. We must have had a slight warm spell during the night with rain, before it turned cold again.. Very bizarre
  4. Just made the trip from Kirkcauldy to Alness (I was at the Raith-County football match) and it was terrible. There was close on 10" snow in places and it was drifting across the road. The Avimore to Inverness area was the worst affected. As for Alness we have around 5". Not sure how long it took to fall, as there was nothing here when I left this morning and it's all here now.
  5. We have another good covering of snow this morning - about 1.5 inches. The snow has been on and off since around 7am - I think the forecast is for it to turn to rain in the afternoon though
  6. The snow action has calmed down a lot up here. Temperatures are below freezing with a stiff wind (not as strong as it was during the afternoon) We are just getting the odd snow shower now, but each shower adds a little and will even whiten the roads. The radar shows it could be like this for much of the night
  7. Made it home after having to walk all the way. and then about 30 mins after I got in the snow plough came and cleared the road. The snow has stopped for us up here and the wind has gone too... but we are now looking at temperatures around -2'c so all the snow will be rock hard soon. Looking at the latest radar we will probably have a few hours anyway of no snow, or just little showers.
  8. Heavy Snow is continuing to fall here. And with the road home being closed, I have been given permission set of home before it gets dark... I'll not be back on before 6pm so I'll give you an update then !! (Unless I get stuck in a snow drift)
  9. Looking at the radar image on the front page, the third band seems to have almost disapeared as it went over the central highlands. Looks like I will have to walk home tonight, as the road is now closed to traffic, it's only about 2 miles so it won't be too bad
  10. It has been some day up here for the snow. We now seem to be under a fourth band of heavy persistant snow. Again it is accompained by strong winds. We did have a break of about 1 hour, but it has returned, and again it seems to be heavier than the last band. Almost all schools in the North of scotland were closed today, and they have already issed reports that most will be closed tomorrow as the forecast is so bad. Countless numbers of roads are closed. My office is just opposite a lorry park, I was speaking to some of the drivers at lunch time, and they are now all prepared just to sit and wait it out, they say the roads are just too bad to even attempt going North or South...
  11. It seems that teh third band of snow has now cleared us here, it lasted just short of 2 hours, but dropped loads of snow, but because of the wind there is only about 2-3" of snow with deep drifts against buildings/fences etc. There seems to be a few other showers following on behind though, Can't wait to see the 1300 radar picture to see if we are in for more
  12. Finally got on-line.. the power was cut because of the heavy snow and strong winds. It seems that the second and third bands of snow are producing a lot more than the first band The first band passed us yesterday afternnon, but only left a dusting. The second band got us about 5am this morning and left around 4" snow in 3 hours. There was then aclear spell with light snow showers for about 2 hours, but we have now been hit by a third wave of snow, but the winds are now a lot stronger and it is total white-out conditions as the already fallen snow is also drifting. I made it too work, but if this continues I might not make it home Current Temp -2'c Wind 26mph NNW Pressure 1001 falling
  13. The snow seems to have pst us now and not left anything behind. It snowed for about 3 hours, but was very light at times and when it was heavier it was very wet so didn't lie. The sky is clear with few clouds now, although it si now far colder and the wind is a lot stronger. I suppose the stong winds could bring in some more showers later tonight..
  14. The snow we had an hour or so ago has turned into very light drizzle. Although my mates in Orkney and Wick have said they have snow now. The wind speed is still picking up too
  15. I'm in Northern Scotland, and although we have had a little snow (started around 1pm) it has been very wet snow and has made no accumulation at all. It was a lot milder than expected this morning - over night temperature didn't fall much below 0'C, but the last few hours has seen it get colder. Not actually snow at the moment, but the sky is very grey and the wind is picking up too... I'll post back, when we get more
  16. At long last some white stuff.. First flakes have began to fall here at 6.30pm. Everywhere around me seems to have snow, but as yet we have no accumulation. Good forecast for tonight though..
  17. On my way home from visiting my parents this afternon we came through a snow shower, albeit the road is about 300m above sea level, but the mountains nearby we completely white, but so far no snow at my house which is nearer sea level
  18. We have had heavy snow showers on and off all afternoon. yet we only have about 3cm of lying snow. Strong winds during the showers make it look worse than it probably is. Current temperature is -2'C
