feb 28th 1400hrs
-
V.light snow here pushing up from the s/west.
-
Seems to be another band of snow/sleet/rain moving into the se and heading nw. Wasn't mentioned on the evening forecast I wonder how far that will get?
Think that is pivoting around the low pressure system, the band is heading north and then N.W. as it meanders around the low. As for the mild breakthrough this weekend i'm not totally convinced just yet, need another 48hrs or so of model watching, i think this cold is too entrenched like Dec 2010 to simply allow a major atlantic assault like the models are currently showing esp with northen blocking being so stubborn to the N.E. yet no mega surface pressures (1040mb +), wouldn't surprise me to see some sudden building of heights over the north of the UK over the weekend.

Now heavy, woop, woop.
-
Heavy snow here now, n grrr at the bloody radar, of all the times to freeze, lol.
-
Anyone else's n/w radar stuck on 22.25?
-
No snow in hull yet think we will get any ?
You should start to see some soon, how far are you from the coast?
-
Quite heavy now in Scunny (DN17).
-
Things really pepping up in the N.Sea now, looks very good atm.
-
Now pepping up to moderate around 5 on the Murrmeter
-
Looks like light precip not far away now, cmon let it be snow !
-
Finally starting to see some n/w movement on the eastern flank, looking ok atm
-
What are your thoughts later on for our location?
Should be ok once the MAIN band of precip arrives, ahead of this the light stuff may well start of as rain, if we can maintain a decent return rate on the radar then i think we'll be ok. Obviously further inland shouldn't be much of a problem.
-
Will prob rain knowing our luck
Temps should start dropping away later this afternoon, seeing as your well inland i wouldn't worry too much, its those close to the coast <10-15 miles that it becomes more marginal.
-
High resolution GFS model going for over 9hrs of decent precipitation tomorrow, could be quite an event this one.
-
Latest NAE looks good for most, totals approaching 15cm in one or two areas from projected snowfall sun night/mon am, widely 5-10cm.

So...........
from looking at this things still look rather positive for Sunday/Monday!
So why is there a few things flying round saying (dare I say it)
rain????
They are probably looking at the NMM Model which indicates a very marginal situation of snow to rain event esp towards the coast, will have more of an idea by tomorrow mornings updates, dont panic just yet.
-
Could any of the more experienced forecasters sum up tomorrow for south Yorkshire please?
I take it you mean the band spreading up from the southeast later tomorrow evening? NAE charts look good for most of the region, whilst the NMM High resolution looks marginal esp towards the coast, NAE model has been pretty good of late this is for 06hrs mon morning.

Things pepping up seriously around the Humber region within the last hour and moving inland, Hull & E.Riding areas currently getting some good snowfall, expect this to move initially westwards then Southwestwards later.
