  1. What a depressing lot you all are! No analysis of the models in this thread just people going oh dear wasn't it a let down!
  2. an easterly once set up is more likely to bring widespread snow, that won't mean you have to rush out to build a snowman t 4 in the morning before it turns to rain!
  3. I wonder if their discussions are a bit similar to this model discussion ... anyway, I have a snaeky feeling as we het nearer the time the fronts will struggle to make much of an inroad against an increasing block to the east, this could mean a lot of snow for north midlands, derbyshire, parts of cheshire. Very interesting to see what the countryfile forcast makes of it all.
  4. completely unrelated so sorry but why is it completely impossible to contact the BBC weather their feedback link takes you straight back to the start!
  5. well it is snowing lightly here with me right now and pretty cold, if this warmer air and drizzle is on its way then it is taking its time!
  6. Not sure what is meant to be happening tonight in my area but it keeps starting to snow, is this an odd rogue shower or something more organised. Perhaps this cold spell has a sting in its tail!
  7. Thought the spell had ended but just went outside and a good inch of snow has fallen when I turned my back!
  8. It is interesting where the snow has clung on and also the temperature variation. I am looking at snow coverered fields right now and the temperature is about 0 if not less and there has been little thawing, however, once you head down into the cheshire plain the temperatures have been that much higher and melted the ice and snow away from shady spots.
  9. I had just moved to London in 1991 and there was deep snow that seemed to last for ages and I thought that it must be always like that, it was even snowy right in the centre!
  10. I am not suggesting this has been a worse cold spell than last March I had deep snow then but this cold spell was very important because without it then I feel winter would have very little to offer afterwards because the next cold spell would be the first and not very potent! INstead we have seen the first of the increasing cold snaps as promised from the met office in their seasonal forecast which appears to be on track.
  11. there there! Again this cold spell has been good because It is a precursor to the rest of the winter and a severe spell in February. A few weeks ago most folks seemed to be writing off winter without even this tame spell!
  12. I have enjoyed this cold spell but I see it as a first cold spell of the winter which normally arrives at the end of NOvember or at least the start of December, so for a first cold snap it has not been bad for me., I've had snow on the ground since Sunday Night, Ok at most and inch two inches on the hills around but it has all looked very pretty and a good -5 frost last night seems to have ended the cold spell nicely! I think I was in quite a good if not the best spot for this cold spell though, I realise that a lot of people are not too chuft with it!
  13. just driven home through SouthManchester Stockport and Bramhall. Very heavy freezing rain downpour, very icy on roads and cars for a time. Clear just outh of there. Seemed very localized.
  14. anyone have any reports from the Buxton area of the Peak District I am heading up there shortly and it is snowing quite a lot in Cheshire. Do I need to take the huskies?
  15. Well I came online to report a lot of snow in south manchester/cheshire but it has turned to rain and is melting quickly!
  16. Just driven through very heavy settling snow over the peak district higher routes. Another world.
