Not expecting anything too significant from this for my region. I should imagine we'll probably see the odd gust of around 60mph, which should be enough to bring one or two branches down. However, I'll be getting one or two supplies in just in case we lose our power supply, which often happens when it's windy around here.

Certainly some interest in the track of ex hurricane Katia next week, a few models and runs are bringing her very close to NW britain as a severe depression with around 950hpa centre. Now if she was to track closer to or even over the uk this would be a MAJOR wind event.
The most likely track will be between Scotland and Iceland, this could change and run more towards the UK and cause mayhem if it did.
Indeed, the majority of ensemble panel members are suggesting that the track of the storm will, most likely, be too far North to be of major concern. However, as you say, it could still change.

As the Netweather warning states, there's a risk of falling branches due to the trees being in full leaf at this time of year. Given that some of the trees around here appear to be rather fragile, I can't say that I'm looking forward to this stormy spell. Luckily, it seems I won't be among the worst affected areas.

Hi Brian, fingers crossed for today! Shame we missed out yesterday after the potential and amount of rain. Have you seen any thunderstorms yet this year, only one ive seen was in Barcelona, not had one here in York since 2009 so heres hoping for today
Hope your well
Vizzy2004
Hi Vizzy, I fine thanks - hope you are too
Yes, I've done OK for storms this year. We've had about three at my actual location, and I've seen a couple when I've visited surrounding areas. It was only a few weeks ago when Malton school was closed after it was struck by lightning. Unfortunately, I didn't witness it myself, but my son was there at the time

Nice heavy shower just arrived here
-
06z GFS suggests some weak CAPE developing across North Yorks this afternoon, so perhaps risk of some thunder here amongst the general heavy showers developing across northern and some eastern counties of England through the day.
Excellent! I missed out on Yesterday's storms, which paid Scarborough a visit instead, so it could be my turn today
If today's showers are anything like yesterday's, I'll be happy with that.
Cheers, Nick

Rumours of more storms today - what do people think?
Not a chance I'm afraid
I'm expecting to see some showers later on, but as for any electrical activity, I can't see it happening

As it's sports day at my son's school, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for some nice beefy showers
WRT any electrical activity, there appears to be only a slight for my region today.

They can bite, although there is no poison involved. If you do get bitten, which is unlikely really, then it would be a sharp pain followed by a short spell of numbness in some cases. Problem is bites can affect people differently, no matter what the creature!
If you feel you can remove it safely, then go ahead, but I doubt it'll cause you any trouble, and you certainly shouldn't worry too much
Thanks for putting my mind at rest The reason I asked was because we found two of them, which we removed and put in a container, and I was worried that there might be more of them hiding somewhere. Now I know what they are, I'll set them free in the garden rather than kill them, which I don't like to do.

Winds beginning to strengthen where I am. Nothing too spectacular, however, with the strongest gust at around 47mph.
