Hey all how's it going? Well had some fun today, got a good 6cm this morning so quickly built my snowman, eased off in the afternoon then started again around 4pm and still falling - pepped up nicely in the last hour too
It's not big flakes but regularly shooting past the lamppost which is great to see giving some nice re-coverage where the snow was disturbed.
Very interesting viewing on the radar not sure how long this will go on for it is quite a complicated setup but for those who have missed out I genuinely feel for you - it was the same here last week - I hope you get something in snow starved Staffs, Shrops and Notts

Hooray NW is alive again!
Tried to post these before but it crashed:
Nice temps under the snowfields on Thursday
Deakin givin it the biggun' on the 10:57 News24 forecast - nice WARNING TRIANGLE over the Midlands
-
Yum at the Midlands today forecast! Snow for much of tomorrow then that massive blob for the south of our area later on!
Indeed! Shefali
Surely we can't miss out again not at this range!? Fingers crossed for the Midlands let's hope marginal temps don't come into play like last week where it was nearly 24 hours of monotonous rain...
-
OMG hold on just checked out of the window on lamppost watch and it is finally snowing! Not sleet but massive 10p flakes! Doubt it will settle on all the rain water but who knows! Finally

Been all rain here, all day!
John Holmes did say that this would be a non event for us lower level peeps. Wish I would have listened more to the net weather severe weather warning.
Met have had heavy snow over my location from 3 am this morning and as per usual not 1 flake here. They continue to show this for worcester, Malvern and Pershore (the 3 main weather reporting stations to my location) but I no longer have confidence in this for the remainder of the spell. Even the Beebs forecasts had snow over us. I am just wondering what the SW Midlands needs to do to see some of the white stuff. I thought that this would be the ideal setup for snow for here, or was it just not cold enough before the rain band got here?
I feel your pain snowhope! I really thought we would be in luck with this kind of setup but just missed out again. Meanwhile back on lamppost watch it's trying hard to sleet...
-
Well it is still raining here though I did see a few flakes falling probably about 1 flake to every 100 raindrops so that might be construed as sleet. Those beefy showers will be here soon just hope it's not more bloody rain! Even more galling to see it snowing at Vile park just to rub it in.....

The Heaviest of the stuff still below Birmingham

Try keep some faith
Indeed and I'm under it w_w_s! I regretfully report only rain, not sleet, rain.
I appreciate that quote from Simon Weatheronline on his blog but that was over two hours ago, as Isaac says it's the temps that are the problem - too high. Unless something happens temp wise in the next few hours it has been a criminal waste of precipitation!
-
It's been trying to rain all day here the lightest precip ever this morning but it's finally turned into proper RAIN here Haven'e even had sleet just run of the mill rain...
Admittedly I had snow on top of rain last Wednesday but it just isn't cold enough at the moment - maybe later!? Down the road in Malvern is reporting snow but that's not a surprise due to the elevation. For those like me at lower levels marginal is the word unfortunately
71m asl here at WR9 by the way.
-
Snow pretty much stopped here now but given a nice 1-2cm covering even on wet patio! The sky is glowing but not much falling - still great to finally see something in our snow starved area of the country good luck all!
-
Are those in Worcs having big flakes? Just normal sized here at the moment.
Some big flakes yes not the biggest I've seen more like when they stick together.
Those worried about seeing only rain - that's exactlywhat happened here, literally just rain not sleet or even "wintry mix" but pure and simple bloody rain, be patient it will turn
-
Good to hear. Whats the temperature and dew point there?
Sorry Isaac I have no idea I don't have a working weather station I only have the car and that shows 0c?! Its very wet snow but has covered everything you guys further north in the WM should do fine with this!
This is the first snow since Feb here. Had rain on Sat night when further north it was snow. It has been white over with frost and ice the last few days and in all honesty I didn't hold out much hope today after the ice melted and everywhere was wet and thawing out.
Just fired up the laptop as my last message was written on my ipod so I can contribute fully now - the mob version of NW doesn't show people's locations. Got one eye on this forum and the other on the lampost!
Still falling nicely
-
Finally snowing here! Started off as yet more boring rain to add to the rain we had on Saturdays non event. I decided to ignore it and just checked and it's proper snow now not sleet at all but big flakes beginning to settle! Very wet but looks great - lampost watch in full effect :-)
71m asl by the way.
-
I hear you Andy what a waste of great ppn!
I have had moderate to heavy snowfall for the last hour after heavy rain and and 2 hours of sleet but it's only just starting to settle. Elevation really helps in situations like these and I am about the same height asl as you. Still at least it's falling I suppose so shouldn't really complain but yesterday's snow was miles better for my location.
-
Current lampost obs confirm sleet here - big flakes falling amongst 80% rain. Temp has dropped to 1.7 but damn DP is 1.2. The only thing I do have a bit of is a strengthening breeze...
-
It's still snowing here - keeps slowing down then pepping up! What started as rain a few hours ago has ended up a decent accumulation about 3 cms in places!
-
Which direction is it moving?
Pretty much West to East straight line
-
-
Snow here but so wet we have nothing sticking at all.
It started out like that here Serendipity, its now full on proper snow settled everywhere and still hoofing it down - give it time there's more to come your way yet
-
Been quite heavy the last 15 minutes and I have settled snow on grass, roofs, cars, paths and at the edges of the roads. Still more to come judging by the radar
OMG Wow flakes have suddenly turned huge!! Bigger than 50ps more like 5 pound notes!!!
-
Still have moderate snow now, the big flakes changed to smaller ones but now more of them. Still bit too wet to settle but attempting to on cars and roofs now. According to the NW Radar I should be on the receiving end of a nice green echo very shortly!
-
After rain then a bit of sleet I can report big wet flakes falling now - really quite dark too.
-
Gone dark here but it's just raining - not even sleet
Still let's see how it progresses later this afternoon...
-
i wonder where toonarmy (cher) is? shes usualy jumping and down in these situations.
No wonder this thread is a bit dead atm
She probably saw the Countryfile forecast and fainted - I know I nearly did!
For those who missed it - I can't find anyone who has Youtubed it yet, it should be on iPlayer later not sure what time though
-
hello blizzards, my forecast is for upto 10 inches in the south midlands tommorow , but unfortunatly worcetershire will be in a pocket of dry weather only recieving 0-1cm of snow..
you wish Jed, you wish!

Same here in Droitwich Worcs! Significant peppage in the last ten minutes - I make that 3hrs+ of continuous falling snow mostly light but with heavier bursts now and again
One eye on the radar the other on the lamppost...
