  1. WTF!!! Meterologica showing activity to my west. Can anyone explain this?
  2. Not having a dig at NW...Maidstone...but no warning was issued for Scotland until after 1pm yet BBC said this morning that there would be thundery showers breaking out all over Scotland today (except me that is).... In that sense, they were correct.
  3. So...Anyone from the South East care to admit that the weather is totally unpredictable tonight....especially after all the whining earlier on this thread from everyone!!! Let's face it, the weather is unpredictable.....all the experts can do is take an educated guess at it...a bit like picking the horses. I didn't get anything today. I have noted however that when storms have kicked off as forecast by the MetO in Scotland this week that Netweather were the last to issue warnings. Swings and roundabouts people.
  4. Loads of convection going on to my NE.....Huge anvil forming. Methinks Central Scotland and the North East are going to get a pounding!!!!
  5. Pretty much the same thing going on here. What normally happens being right on the coast is that we get the rain and once the storms move inland a little then they kick off big style. Hoping for some action as it's becoming very dark to the West of me right now.
  6. Let's hope so Todd mate. Gazeyre1966 here. Just started to rain here. Muggy as hell and the wind just starting to pick up. No thunder heard yet though.
  7. I remember reading about a man who was struck by lightning a few years ago on a golf course. According to witnesses at the time they said that the lightning "arced across the sky" from a cloud almost 15 miles away and struck him down. I was walking home from work yesterday and a storm was in the distance. You could hear the thunder and my work colleague remarked that it was miles away and couldn't do us any harm when I mentioned this story. Quite eerie that this thread has just appeared the day after. I'll be showing him this thread on Monday.
  8. What looked like a really bad thunderstorm approaching from the East turned into a damp squib when it hit Irvine...It mostly skirted around and then seemed to split into two. Although Prestwick, 11 miles south east of me has reported a thunderstorm tonight. Thunder lasted, mostly on approach, from 6.45-8.15pm approx. and then died.
  9. I've checked about 7 different lightning detectors and can't find any activity anywhere in the UK currently. I know they aren't infallible but can anyone tell me why no strikes are showing on any of them?
  10. Fantastic pictures all, from the serene to the extreme. I have made my vote.
  11. I absolutely hate the little blighters. Funnily enough though I've hardly seen any in the West of Scotland this year but that doesn't mean it's over. I was stung....on December 15th 2004. I couldn't believe it...second sting that year. It was a queen. I can only guess the little git had nested in the attic and found a way down but when I called the exterminators in they couldn't find any nest at all. Strange. Anyone else been stung later than that?
  12. Beautiful day here in Ayrshire, South West Scotland. Light winds this morning led to temps getting up to 22c. Got a little breezier late afternoon but temps and sunshine still there. Well, until it got dark that is!!!!!
  13. Sorry Karyo but you say it's a shame??? While I love my weather and I'm sure, guaranteed that a hurricane will hit somewhere, sometime soon in the season....It is never a "shame" when they claim lives, devastate towns, cities, etc....Is that what you want to happen? Can't buy into that philosophy....Sorry!!!
  14. Nice video Dee88. I'm hoping some of that will come this way shortly.
  15. Afternoon all. Current weather conditions in Irvine, Ayrshire. Sunny with broken cloud. 20.8C Wind: 23 mph from WSW Humidity: 63%
  16. It's weird. It's rained all day today with gusty winds this afternoon. It's cleared up now but it's still humid. What is going on???? Some nasty black cloud away to my NW though.
  17. It's absolutely heaving it down here now in Ayrshire. Light breeze has turned very squally...Clouds darkening.
  18. Current conditions from Irvine weather station in Ayrshire at 1pm. Overcast, odd shower expected. 21C Wind: 10 mph from ESE Humidity: 68%
  19. Thank you John, yes I have discovered the learner section and have been reading avidly....A lot of good articles by yourself I might add. A bit too much to take everything in, in one night anyway....lol
  20. Thanks Bilz and John, top answers, cheers!!! I always wondered why people were talking about Dewpoints in the forums John so thank you for that. All explained very nicely. Blimey, this weather malarkey is more complicated than I thought.
  21. Hello everyone. Just joined Netweather a few weeks ago and only entered the forums this week. I have learnt quite a lot although a ton of stuff remains a mystery but I'll just take it a step at a time. I've been reading informative articles about the different types of cloud tonight, so thanks for those. I digress. I've got two questions (both noob questions I'm afraid). I'm currently using a few different lightning detectors. I have tended to stick with the one at nowcast but the question is What is the record number of strikes recorded in the UK in one single 24 hour period? Secondly I've been boning up on humidity and now have a better understanding of what causes it. What I want to know though is why does it make a person feel so uncomfortable and start sweating? I know the vapour is in the air but why does it have that effect on us? Cheers all. Hope someone can answer. Grahame
  22. Irvine, Ayrshire. Very clear. Warm, 20c at 2am. Still humid. Very calm.
