  1. Me thinks a lot longer than that Chris, here in the south daytime temps have not really dropped below 17oC since way back in May, been a long long warm southern half of the country the longest i can remember, and with temps still about and above 17oC in October its been a positively tropical year.

    LO

I mean since early September, because August was average,so it wasn't mild/warm for the time of year.So I'm exeggerating slightly. But yes it's been generally very warm since June.Desperate to see a colder countryfile forecast.Maybe next week's eh B)

  2. Well last year on christmas day it will still fairly mild here with a high temperature of 7C. The sharp but brilliant cold spell did'nt begin until Boxing day in my neck of the woods. In 2004 we did have some snowfall on christmas day but only late at night, and quite frankly I don't think that winter deserved snowfall on that day due to the mildness of that particular winter.Hopefully will see some proper snowfall on the big day this time around.

  3. Well, we've had the past 3 Winters.....if this Winter proves to turn out to be "cold", will you accept that this could be a trend towards colder Winters?

I am not talking Summers here, which are a separate issue, but Winters have been getting colder for the past 3 years. I know this, because I have observed it. I work outside for part of my working week and have a set of acute senses.

Well I'll be delighted if it does in fact turn to be a cold winter. But it won't neccesarilly mean colder winters.Only last year did we have a average winter, which was colder than recent years but it was hardly a cold winter. The winter before was a very mild winter so I don't where you have got your "Winters have been getting colder for the past 3 years from".If the next 3 winters are colder than average then I will start to believe you but only time will tell.I must admit I'm a little more optimistic about this one than usual.

  4. I wouldn't be surprised if this year did follow last Autumns and the change from mild to a sudden cold spell in November. Supposed to be cold tonight falling of rapidy here.

I would certainly love that, and there's hints in the model it may happen, eventually. In the mean time,I feel that we could be in for yet another record breaking month unless the pattern changes sooner than I expect.

  5. Well it won't be sunshine all week, but tommorow and tuesday will be very warm for the time of year and quite sunny. It may be more unsettled mid-week,but there's a sign of more settled weather coming in as we reach the end of the week, with a hint of easterlys coming in.Temperatures very warm in the south from monday to wedensday with temperatures reaching 20C and over, still warm towards the end of the week but to a less dramatic extent, highs in the south around 18C for thursday and friday.

  6. It's very hard to predict because there's many possible scenarios.Scenario one, continuation of the extreme warmthy and we get another record breaker.Scenario two,a month of two halfs,a very warm first month followed by a cooler 2nd half.Or an unexpected pattern change early in the month and we get a get an average a below average month.Or an unexpected very cold month though that is very unlikely.I will go for the 2nd scenario,it will be a very warm and sunny first half, then a more average and wet set up will occur for the second half of the month. Therefore I'll go for around 12.1.We are very slowly cooling down but I feel we will properly see an effect by November.

  7. The models are now hinting at low pressures crashing over us as we go into early October, so another wet October could well follow this warm September. I just wonder why we just get September warmth year after year, followed by very wet weather in October. I would just love to see an October like 1995, or even 1985 which was very dry as well. Dry blocked Octobers have been almost entirely absent in recent years.

Well October 2003 wasn't wet though it was a cold month,I'd gladly settle for some crisp autumn sushine this october as well, rather much have that than the October we experienced last year which was wet and very warm.

  8. It really still is a struggle to get a month with a noteably colder than average CET! despite all the unsettled conditions. Alot of the talk recently is about what a difference there has been between July and August temps wise, but is this really a surprise considering just how hot July was? It would be far more of an eye opener if we were to have a near normal CET month followed by one with a considerably lower CET. I know this has been asked before but are we capable of getting a cold month??

My answer is that is unlikely at the moment but remember back to March and it was set to be a well below average month but was spoiled by the warmer last week so we're not incapable.

  9. Well:

June-A sunny month was mainly down to the almost incredible wall to wall days of sunshine from the 2nd to the 11th.It was mostly cloudy from mid-month onwards but the wall to wall sunshine returned at the end of the month. It was also a very warm month with hot spells in the first third of the month and the end of the month. Also notablyy dry compared to the wet may but there was thunderstorms after the first heatwave very early in the morning.

July-An incredibly hot and sunny month where 35C was officially recorded at Birmingham airport on the 18th,an all time record for Birmingham. The month was relentlessly hot and I had never known anything like it before!Towards the end of the month there was finally signs that the hot weather was leaving us,with temperatures going down to the lower mid twenties.

August-August started off cool, but by the 6th it was hot yet again, but it was to prove the last hot day of the month with 28C being reached. It was very warm for a couple of days after that but turned fresher by the 9th and it was sign of things to come for this month. And from then it was mostly unsettled with a lot of dull weather but the sunshine levels have picked in the last week or so.We've constantly had highs of around 20C this month making it an average month but a very wet month due to many heavy downpours and persistant rain.

So generally a good summer, very strange due to the amazing turnaround between the months of July and August.I've been happy with this summer, the June sunshine was welcome, and the July heat was fascinating, and the much fresher August has been welcoming, but I'm now hoping we will see a nice warm September, nothing amazing but a week or so of blue skys again please!I must also say that due to the not so good August month, this summer has not been in the leagues in 1976 or 1995,but I feel it's still up there with 2003.
