  1. Plenty of shower activity around Cumbria, but definitely no signs of any band appearing, maybe the NMM messed up on this... there 0z still says this band will affect southern and western northumberland, much of cumbria, tees-side and county durham, giving large snow amounts above 100m.

Here it's 2.9/0.2, so marginal but uppers should dip a bit more still.

Meto model still going for shrs developing across NE England.

Here, 5th day 0900z snow lying ahead, not much more than dusting so far. Temp 0.7C.

  2. When's the wind going to be at its strongest? Got school plays this afternoon and evening!

Do you think we're in line for snow? I thought being fairly central we might both miss out?

Perhaps a few cm's from a weak from moving South tonight, being further West you should see more than here.

I think ice will be the greater harzard esp for the eldery and infirm.

    Here's meto rainfall model

  3. you did

Looks like you'll be able to put your lament at the lack of blizzards over recent years well and truly to bed by Friday?

What are the chances of snowfall to lower areas of Lancashire anyone, or are we looking more at a repeat of the recent mix of sleet, cold rain and stinging hail showers?

Promising signs in the model thread that the jet may begining to head south over coming days and keep us in a cold north westerly, stormy air flow for a decent while. I hope so, I love this type of weather. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the clear blue skies and sparkling snow cover you get from northerly blocking, but proper blizzards feel much more extreme. Also, for some reason, I like it that all the southerners sulk and whinge that its boring because there is no 'beasterly' showing on the models!

Meto appear to have precipiation linked to this event further West, so looks like we will miss out.

Just had a drive up the valley snow still drifting across the highest routes.

Temp back home, 1.8C.Dry and sunny at present.

Lots of winter to come, I wouldn't be at all surprised if this December turns out to have more snowfall than last years December in the N Pennines.

  4. Flash is blocked off currently from a earlier incident, so not many cars taking the Buxton-Leek route anyway at this time in the evening with the weather as it is. Most of the problems reported will likely be due to commuters and the A6 junction in the center of town (Buxton's layout means it has 4 throughfares passing through it all merging at the same place.) Its normally busy even in the summer, but add on unconfident drivers, sheer traffic weight and conditions you can see where the problems lie.

Compared to N Pennines there is an amazing amount of traffic in the Peak District. Luckly here the local ploughs/gritters are free to just clear the roads. Teesdale's gritting/ploughing service is excellent far better than over the border in Cumbria.

  5. There are miles of traffic queues on all approach roads to Buxton right now and Buxton Town Centre is deadlocked - Reports today - Just returned to Buxton along Long Hill, conditions difficult, was snowing heavily - drive with care. He helped occupants of a car that had skidded and hanging off the road at Fernilee so there may be rescue vehicles at the scene by now. That was the situation at approx 17:10 -BuxtonWeather

Doesn't look that much snow near Flash. The busy roads in the Peak District appear to add to any snow related problems.
