  1. Hi, just on the South Devon coast temp 0.1 dew point -6 The radar shows blobs heading our way, currently dandruffy stuff blowing around, hoping we get some more snow tonight/tomorrow. Popped to Sainsbury's earlier and it was one in and one out, My mum went to Morrisons and they were out of bread, milk and eggs, am hoping the general public know something that I don't !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. At last, after weeks of waiting I have 1cm snow, fantastic, am really concerned though as temp is gradually rising 0.8 and dew point of -1.2 is there any colder air on the way? as I would be devastated if it rains and washes it all away before kids get up. Am going to find it very hard to go to sleep with the chance of more snow, I unfortunately appear to be addicted to the radar.

  3. I've decided the MO thread is a waste of time at the moment.

Infact I'm getting pretty fed up with this site and its massive SE leaning, heres hoping something comes along for us in the near future, til then I think I'll take a break!

Don't stop posting on this thread though, I value your input and it could let me know if it is worth a trip up to the moors, you never know!!!

  4. Hi Have been praying for snow and watching each model run for weeks now, even if I have to drive to Dartmoor to see it. Every day the snow is always a few days away and then gets downgraded, will we ever see it here?

However I do feel that this is the closest we have been to even having a slight risk of any of the elusive white stuff to fall from the sky. It has been tropical here since boxing day even reaching 11.2.

Today does however feel different temp has been dropping since 6am and dew point also falling. Who knows if it keeps dropping my kids might finally believe in the snow fairy!!

  5. good question. If you take the mid point between the dewpoint and the actual temperature (eg. dewpoint -2, temperature +2 - mid point = 0c) then as long as this midpoint temp is below freezing (edit: or at freezing), your odds on for snow.

The temperature drops as the water evaporates in the dryer air (to evaporate water, it takes heat and energy from the atmosphere to do this)- the dewpoint rises because the air is taking up moisture, and they'll roughly meet in the middle. or something like that!

Thankyou, that's explained it very well my mid point is currently 1c but temp is rapidly dropping, fingers crossed.

  6. I'll let ya know if we get any here... certainly cold enough at the moment (and only going to get colder as the darkness comes in)

You don't want the DP above freezing for snow and the temp should be 2c or lower... although you can get snow from higher temps.

Thanks, Dew point is -1 and temp is dropping every 5 seconds so I won't give up all hope lol!!!

  7. Cannot quite believe it but David Braine predicted snow for us tonight on his forecast, he actually mentioned snow in the SOUTH HAMS which is where I live, with temps at 4.0 and dewpoint currently at 3.4 I find this hard to imagine. However right now there is nothing I would like more than some lovely snow, would be so great for the snow deprived kids. Am checking temps every 1/2 hour and they are slowly dropping, can they drop quick enough??? PLEASE PLEASE SNOW!!!
