Hi im new here and from sheffield, are they likely to be getting any snow tonight, thanks
BBC are predicting snow showers in Sheffield area for about 0600 tomorrow morning - check the Look North forecast at about 2220.
-
well not much to talk about on that forecast
Interesting for my area - he suggested the snow showers will reach as far as the Sheffield area by 0600 tomorrow. We will know in the morning if he's right about it.

They couldn't wait to mention Global warming in there review of the cold spell, as well as emphasize that other areas in the world were much warmer (yet failed to mention anywhere other than the UK was cold )
Perhaps the Met Ofice haven't seen this report...

Near blizzard conditions here (S6) just now - in addition to the heavy snow we have a strong and gusty wind blowing all the snow off the trees.
-
Did the forum software get snowed under ? haven't been able to get in for ages <_<
-
Yes it was a good forecast will it come off though????
If it does Sheffield will be chaos in the rush hour tomorrow morning.
I have a nice new shovel so it can do what it likes

Light Snow here now. And it's done what this mornings heavier snow couldn't do. Settle.
The snow this morning settled here. We were on our way home from town at 1100 and I would say the 'settling' height was 300m on Kirkedge road.
-
We've had a couple of inches in about two hours here. It eased up to light snow about ten minutes ago and I thought the streamer was sinking south but it's now pepped up again though not as thick and fast as an hour ago.
It's also looking likely that the band of snow heading inland on Teeside will arrive in South Yorks later this evening.
-
BBC chart for tomorrow afternoon is interesting...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/10209
...what looks like a trough coming inland around Newcastle at midday, descends south-west towards Leeds by 1500 but has all but disappeared by 1800.
Is this the South Yorks snow shield at work ??
-
edit: it's 1ºc here witha DP of -0.15ºc.
i think the best discription would be 'Snizzle' really fine snow!!
I think a lot of folk would describe this event as a 'Swizzle'.
Although our snow is thickening up now and the wind is getting up so we might have an interesting afternoon.

We had to turn out this morning down to Oughtibridge and the snow turned to rain in Worral which is about 800 feet ASL.
It's still quite heavy here in High Bradfield but it's very fine stuff, - although it covers cleared paths very quickly. Thermometer showing 0°C.
Snow is about 3cm deep on the paved area of the garden.
-
We've had continuous but very light snow since approx 2100—the accumulation is barely 1cm so far. In the current situation our conditions will be very similar to that of Buxton...same altitude, same rural setting and just over the hill.
-
BBC just had that band as snow for tomorrow night as it passes over S. Yorks. Fairly confident it will be at our altitude - possibly six hours of it starting around 2100 ?

is it me or something special is brewing now
Blizzard conditions west of Sheffield

Just got back from sledging....extremely heavy snow in S6! It's about time we got something from this cold spell, lol.must have been between 5-10cms
I'm in S6 too (High Bradfield)- looking at the Netweather radar we still have quite a bit to come. I thought the streamer had dropped south a bit an hour ago but it's now back with a vengeance. I ain't going outside to measure it, the snow is piled up against both doors, but I'd say we've had about 3 inches of level snow already. Local farmer has been dashing round the lanes with a sbowplough on the front of his tractor...a few quids for him no doubt
-
Where is this streamer coming from? Any chance of it hitting areas further east. Pleased to here Sheffield is doing ok now with the snow.
Seems to be originating in Morecambe Bay area and heading southeast. Grimsby looks to be just out of it but Lincoln should get a good dumping.
-
The streamer looks set to resume after the current clear spell. Met Office were suggesting it could last until 2000 before dying out.
It has just resumed here in the Sheffield Highlands
-
We're finally getting something here on the western edge of Sheffield - it seems to be frozen rain
-
We got nothing from that band of 'moderate' snowfall that passed over us according to the NW and the Meto radar. Not a flake or a flurry.
Beats me how the radar can show such a strong echo and there's nothing to see for it.
-
Well the figures are the same as here but ours was in centimetres.
Keep forgetting snow has gone 'metric' But can I just say that when I were a lad there was none of this business of trains being delayed due to 'wrong kind of snow' on the lines - that's when it was measured in inches.
-
Somebody painted our garden shed white last night....why would they do that ?
3 to 4 inches here. It seems to have snowed continuously from about 4 pm yesterday through to just before 6 this morning. Perhaps just as well we were out of the heaviest ppn. Anyway I broke the snow-shovel trying to lift too much with it
Apologies to all those who didn't get any.
-
Yeah, we've had a decent covering too galba.
Roads are pretty dicey at the moment, I suspect it may clear for the morning though
it's been really really fine snow grains most of the time, but managed to settle quite well.
There's not much wind up here at the moment though.....
Very fine snow here too but accumulation is now about 4 cm. A good northerly breeze is piling it up so if it carries on for another four hours or so my first job in the morning will be shovelling.....again !
-
We have about 1 cm of fresh snow here, wind has become quite gusty and there's a pretty strong radar echo approaching from the southeast so I imagine the high ground around Sheffield will have a decent covering by the morning.
Full moon tonight too
-
Wish things looked more positive maxdamage but the general concenus seems that the low is further south and the ppn will not reach here now
I'm going to wait to see what that lad Paul Hudson has to say at 6:55

You can have as much of ours as you want if you come and fetch it. After two days snowed-in we finally managed to get out today after a neighbouring farmer came round with his JCB.
Sunday is now looking most likely for more significant snow, bitterly cold with it too. Up here in the hills we'll likely get some drifting as the wind picks up
