  1. Thanks to all for an informative thread. I am just about to take the plunge and get a weather station as I am moviing permanently to Ireland. The area I am moving to is near the Atlantic coast so it is important that I have one that can take a battering from the winds (especially if future winters/spriings are anything like the last one ). I had been thinking of putting the anonometer at the front but I am not sure it would survive. I am particularly interested in the wind speed and rainfall totals so if there are any further recommendations for someone on a modest budget I would be grateful. How easy are they to hook up to the PC as I am not very technical minded. I am also thinking of getting a hand held anonometer so I can use it when I am out and about. Any recommendations?
  2. What a contrast. Sun out here now and the flood which was gathering in my garden and I was frantically spreading around about an hour ago has completely disappeared. Temperature has also risen in the past hour from 14.8c to 19.2c.
  3. Over 110 children had to be rescued from the sea at Dn Laoighre harbour after their boats were overturned by a squall. Thankfully it seems there was no loss of life. http://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/mhkfqlqlidsn/
  4. That sounds pretty horrendous Nigel. Hope everyone stays safe. Still watering the garden here due to lack of rain.
  5. Thanks for that Joe. I now have a better understanding of what is happening. Haven't heard any rumbles here but have noticed the clouds and the increasing 'mugginess'.
  6. Fog earlier - just lifting now. Current temperature 14.8c
  7. Currently very warm and sunny even at this time of the evening Outside temp currently 24.8c ! Max temp today 26.4c

  11. Cookie I am sure some of the others will post more interesting information later. In the meantime have a look on: http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ Predicted to be pretty bad.
  12. Many thanks Nigel. Have read it and will study it in depth later. Some of it is starting to make sense
  13. Nigel, is this unusual for this time of year? What are the implications of a strong jet stream? Trying to learn here PS Where is Mondy?
  14. Looks as if we are going to get our wish cookie Weds and Thurs next week look pretty awesome according to www.xcweather.co.uk I am sure Nigel and weathermaster will keep us informed and up to date as always.
  15. Good to see you back Nigel. We need some windy weather. It has been so boring of late
  16. What an informative thread. Thank you all (well nearly all). We have regularly driven late Friday evenings from London to Glasgow at this time of year and have always been fascinated by the skyline, especially from midnight on when we hit Cumbria and continue on through Scotland. There is usually very little traffic on the motorways so it is a joy to drive on the roads and still be able to see the outline of the hills etc. I will now have a better understanding of what is happening.
  17. Just spoke to OH who is on the west coast of Ireland (County Clare). Regular gusts in excess of 40mph this morning. Not sure if it may hit you later, cookie. Usually what we get on the west of Ireland hits you later. Nigel may have some info.
  18. I agree to some extent with what you say but the numbers of people affected in the south east/London area are partly the reason it receives so much attention. I travel 11 miles every day to work and have to drive as I need access to my car to travel around. Every day it is nose to tail traffic and that is regardless of the time I travel. If I went by train or bus there would be the same problem - overcrowding. So any weather incident that occurs affects travel and therefore disrupts MILLIONS trying to get around London. London and the south east are overcrowded and something needs to be done but that is a discussion for another day - LOL! Snow here 2+ inches. Had almost stopped but now gettting heavy again.
