  1. Dusting at Val Thorens. Doesn't look very inviting http://livecam.valthorens.com/index.php?langue=2 H
  2. Internet History? cookies? Whatever. I just used the safety icon to clear the down loaded dross. One thing to put up with this sort of thing if you are accessing Amazon, when searching there but it is another thing entirely when you access netweather which should have no connection. Why does Netweather put up with it?
  3. Like Habsish I am finding it difficult with any web cam sites to find any dump of snow in Norway. Anyone else with more experience got any web cam evidence? P
  4. Hadn't really thought about it. However having watched a bit this evening all bar one bird seem to stand facing in one direction, which is also vaguely south. Must be a coincidence. Pitwood
  5. Yes marinade it in a good compost heap! P
  6. This really struck a cord with me. I hate waste so there is very little food or anything else that is thrown away at our house but I agree when in competition with the big guys such as goverments and nature our efforts are worse than useless. Anyone want recipes for left overs? I find it all rather depressing. Pitwood
  7. I recall a lecture whilst I was doing physics A level many years ago. The person taking it was researching the polar shift. The way he did it was by analysising nomadic ancient fire places. The iron in the soil that burnt with the fire became fixed when it cooled. The direction of the then magnetic field also became fixed and could be plotted. Any other ways of doing it? P
  8. All makes interesting reading. Time to order more oil or coal? P
  9. Habsish, I see from the link http://www.mdvaden.com/mistletoe.shtml it says "Mistletoe is a misunderstood plant. It is only partially parasitic,Notice that the leaves of mistletoe are green; it produces some of its own chlorophyll. Therefore making some of its own food. It can become more parasitic in a drought when it takes water away from its host. Mistletoe dies if the host tree dies." Makes you wonder if a weedkiller like Round Up sprayed/painted on it would have any affect. P
  10. Habish, I know the problem. Down here so many trees are covered with the stuff. I have just spent a day trying to cut out the infections from a valued apple tree. How does it grow and propogate? Once a branch is infected can it pop up anywhere along that branch? Advice please.
  11. Thanks. What I meant was there was there no way to actually set the sensor up so it reads correctly. Think the water when boiled or frozen needs to be pure otherwise any pollutant will give an incorrect reading. When boiling is done it should be at sea level. Mind is going back to my physics lessons that were too many years ago. Not that the accuracy is likely to become apparent with the equipment I would use.
  12. Unfortunately no way of calibrating the Oregon ones other than trying to remember how much they are out.
  13. Habsish, Really seems to be inexcusable to sell something such as a thermometer and accept that it could be only about 75% accurate. Should be a warning on the box and in their advertising. Now have to check out my equipement using an ordinary thermometer. Yes you pay for what you get but it should do the job reasonably. What does anyone else think? G
  14. Not sure if this should be posted here. If not please move to somewhere approriate. Australian seems from reports I have seen, to be experiencing a colder than normal winter. Any implication for us in the northern hemisphere?
  15. For heights above sea level just look at an Ordnance Survey map There are spot heights and contour lines of different heights. P
