  7. that storm looks nasty on thursday. just had a peep at the charts and we seem to be right in the firing line.
  8. I;ll second that, couldn't get to sleep last with the wind and rain bashing of my window. i think the met folk are slightly under rating these wind storms.
  9. exciting times ahead. ecm looks good for continuing polar maritime flow, so more oppurtunities for snow. wind is really picking up here again.
  10. I;m guessing it will be fairly nailed come the morning?
  11. the further north and west one is the better for snow according to that pom.

  15. had an almighty hail shower just now, grass ans soil white. some good wintry showers around today and feeling bitter in that wind.
  16. had a wintry shower just now, and most of it was snow, back to window gazing.
  17. another appalling day here with strong to gale force winds and incessant rain, has been a rough week and no sign of it letting up. next tuesday/wednesday looking very interesting.
  18. yes i remember january 84 very well, absolutely plastered in snow, got a couple of days of school. it was great, I was 12 years old, my first year in secondary school. heavy driving rain here and wind is picking up. has been a pretty rough week.
  19. The important issue i feel is just getting the right conditions over the country to get snow falling from the sky. I mean it seems to me that we have to have all the right ingredients for snow to fall on this wee island, or in other words down right damn luck.I will be happy to see falling snow on saturday and next week even if i have to stay up all night, if it settles and accumulates then that is a bonus, time to have fun in it. Apart from 2009/2010 snowfalls, it does seem more difficult to get snow in this country as compared to the seventies and eighties, these are the years when i remember at least three to four very cold spells every winter lasting at least four days and getting enough snow to have lots of fun in, luck was less a factor then. So lets get this polar maritime blast over our shores and then worry about settling/accumulating snow. I really wouldn't like to see this winter worse than last winter, that would be a disaster, but I feel it won't. the fun and games begin tonight with stormy conditions setting in. It does at the moment look like a potent cold blast next week. I think january 1984 would have been similar.
  20. very interesting weather coming up, batten down the hatches. calm before the storm today. could be significant falls of snow next week, with embedded troughs in the flow and 516 dam thickness close to the west of ireland which is quite remarkable. exciting times ahead.
  21. atrocious conditions here. ah well back to the fire.
  22. rotten start to the new year, blowing a houlie and incessant rain, a real sit by the fire day. a couple of cold nights coming up, the best we can get out of this weather pattern.
