There's some good photos and videos on this site (in wmv format, however):

The above is updated now and again. Translate it to English and it makes a little sense.
The following is about more ash this evening and lightning too - http://www.ruv.is/frett/mikid-oskufall-vid-vik
-
If it was in English, I might care.
My browser (Chrome) translates it automatically but even then I can't make a lot of it out!

I think this is reporting the fresh eruption.
-
Whoa, the plume is massive now Even bigger than what happened on Thursday morning?
-
Can't seem to view the camera. Just wont load.
Sometimes it can be slow. Just leave it load and it eventually comes. It looks absolutely stunning now.

More notable eruption taking place now?
-
All I can see are clouds?
I thought they were far cumulus clouds at first too but if you look at the refresh they seem to move (and rise up) too quick for that? This is the direction of the volcano anyway - as this image appeared on websites yesterday when those distant clouds were far darker.
Just to be clear, I'm referring to the billowing clouds in the far distance, not the near small ones that sometimes block the view.

The plumes in the distance seem to be getting taller - is this a renewed eruption?

2.5 inches on the ground here and still snowing although not as heavy as 20 minutes ago when the most colossal flakes were falling.
-
Woke up to a couple of cm's here. Going into town for college now- I se on the webcams that snow has actually stuck there too which is very rare.
New MetEireann warning-
Severe Weather Warning
Heavy snowfall will affect mainly East Leinster today and tonight.
Average snowfall 3-8 cm, but drifting may lead to higher accumulations.
-
Snowing here! Small powdery flakes.
-
I really hope the showers penetrate far enough to Meath so we can get a covering. Also, I go to college in Dublin and I have never seen snow accumulate in the centre in all my life so it would be quite an event if it did.

According to the following 30c was indeed recorded at Heathrow today but it was reported between the hourly updates at 14:20 via METAR. For some reason, the metoffice are ignoring it;

John Cox is a real stalwart on this site and a really keen "weather observer" in his native parts.
. Records and keeps data as well a watcher of nature and the seasons. John takes in a lot of interest on what experts have to say on netweather.tv forum. His posts and thoughts are highly valued by myself ,and I also know by some of the other experts on this forum.

Ok...that's great but how does it relate to my post? I merely qustioned how the 'summer temps have been the lowest in years' and I brought up the fact that the records show there is no real correlation between a cold summer and a cold winter in our small corner of the world.
-
Hi rc28,
Personally and from what I have read hear on NW from the experts; Summer SST's have a big bearing on our winter weather and vice versa and they are much colder this summer than usual. To say that there is no link between summer weather and what the winter weather will be is a not correct. Cause and effect. With the weather, one season's weather will always affect another. The temps of the oceans do have a large effect on our weather.
But time and time again it has been shown, on weather sites like this, that cold summers don't correspond to cold winters although i would see why one would think otherwise. We occupy a tiny part of the north atlantic and just because we are having a crap summer (and the waters around us are colder) doesn't mean there will automatically be a colder winter(seeing as the warm gulf stream is such a powerful moderator of our climate). Has the temperature of the north atlantic drift taken a dramatic dip or is it just the shallow seas that surround us?

Ash plume has reached 31,000 feet tonight!
http://mbl.is/mm/frettir/innlent/2010/05/05/gosmokkur_i_31_thusund_feta_haed/
Is that as high as it got in April?
