  1. Well, a bit of a break from radar watching for a couple of days now. Not that its been that worth it so far, before xmas and after xmas.

I remember eading somewhere once that even during some of Britian's snowiest and harshest winters there were still parts that missed out. I can't help thinking of that right now and thinking about us here in the West Midlands. And even in Stourbridge with a few light dustings here and there i've done better than other locations.

Chin up, theres always February 2007, April 2008 and earlly February 2009. 3 years in a row we've had decent snow events. Maybe its just not our turn this time!

However, I am enjoying these very frosty big old sunrises every morning at the moment!

See you all again for the next potential fall of snow!

  2. Gord, today is just about the mildest day for the next 2 weeks more then likely, the cold air isn't really that well established yet and importantly we've got some higher profiles over the top of us at the moment.

The problem is the first trough was stronger then expected thanks to the streamer partly, therefore upper profiles are even more marginal then expected, then you also have to remember the flow from those showers are coming from the Irish sea which is probably also modifying the surface conditions somewhat.

Today really is just the tip of the iceberg...something which may be forming soon in some northern places haha!

The second trough coming down is the one thats bringing in the colder air.

Remember troughs bring in a slightly different airmass...sadly the first trough was bringing in slightly milder air, the 2nd trough is the one dragging in lower profiles yet again..

Oh yeah, i know that. I'm just having a moan because yet again i've gone out somewhere and got wet. I feel like that since the end of October, rain just waits for me to decide to have a day out somewhere!

Maybe i'll give the cold spell one last chance! :D

  3. Well from a very selfish point of view, i need rain on Wednesday as that is the day i'm driving back from Lowestoft in Suffolk. My heart still wants snow though!

From Thursday onwards anything could happen. I'm going to take it one event at a time. We haven't done as well as others for snow in the cold spell we've had so far. I think things are looking promising, maybe not for a big snow event next week but for something interesting further down the line.

Lets talk again on Wednesday evening and see where we are at!

  4. A lot of us will have our own local events that we can recall. For example the end of February 2004 when i lived in Sunderland was very special. Over a foot of snow fell in one night in some very localised and very heavy snowfall.

The one that i think the event that will stick in most minds is that day in August 2003. Whether it record breaking temperatures in the south or severe thunderstorms in the north (which is what i had).

February 2001 should have been the event of the decade....but we all know what happened there (for us in England and Wales anyway!).

  5. Wow i think you very unlucky as pretty much everyone else had heavy snow here. Weve had a good top up here.

Yeah, i have been unlucky. Even up by the centre of Wordsley the snow has been topped up. It seems to be just this little area around the Glass Cone that has missed out. Great scenes up in Brierley Hill though. We had this same problem last February. I seem to live in a little warm dip!

  6. Strange goings on here. Sleet never really turned to snow in Wordsley and if anything hurt our small accumlation a little. Just been up to Brierly hill about a mile away and very heavy snow fell there with a good accumlation. Ah well, thats what you get for living slightly lower down.

Thats our lot for tonight i take it then?
