Interesting Tamara. If your right then i find it reassuring but surely GH blocking and a southerly track brings in the cold from the east in the same way as a scandi block and a southerly track.....and therefore regardless of the scenario as long as the source is the same it should be the same cold. What I am suggesting is the source is not as cold as it was a decade ago..

just a thought i've been pondering and welcome thoughts but do you think if this current set up with GH block and a southerly tracking jet stream occured 10 years ago it would have resulted in blizzards across the areas today that are proving marginal and producing sleet at the best. So in other words our UK climate has warmed by a degree or so in the last decade that now make the current set ups marginal while in the past they would have produced dead cert snow. Anyway I've opened the freezer door to try and help bring the temps down to turn this wretched rain to snow!!!

i cant believe how quiet it is on here. Its one of the most exciting weather and prospects for years and the place is desserted!! Looking at the 120 ukmoFAX i dont like the look of the height rises over europe. It doesnt look like a battleground scenario which was what I was expecting when the mild air tries to push in

Its just silly people boosting hopes up.....the best way through this week is to assume >10 degrees all week starting from tomorrow and anything less than that is a bonus.....Thats the first thing. The second...Assume it wont snow regardless of what the models say from one run to the next. So if thats the starting point which lets face is the UK's default weather pattern. So when the reality comes and in fact we do get Snow and temps for the next 10 days sub zero you will be nothing but extatic. THE ABOVE PRESCRIPTION AVOIDS DISSAPPOINTMENT! p.s first post but appreciate all the comments from nick sussex to wib...they all have something to add.
