Nantwich is just a few miles up the road from me... and having just looked out of my window at the rapidly descending black murk, covering what was a very pleasant evening just 5 minutes ago, it looks like the interesting weather is heading in our direction... Had a very heavy short shower at about 7pm, which was followed by a few rumbles of thunder... and I will now go and shut all the windows in anticipation of round 2...

The seasonal dry spell, which began here at 3:30am on July 29th has just been brought to an end, with 1mm of rain between 19:00 and 19:20. This is the longest time we have gone without rain since early June, when 11 consecutive dry days were recorded. A couple of rumbles of thunder accompanied the brief downpour. It's currently a breezy 14 degrees, which is 8 degrees cooler than it was this time yesterday.

Blah. Trust my thermometer batteries to run out today... Just about got things up and running again now, but that means I've lost several hours earlier in the day Anyway, we currently have 26 degrees, making this the hottest day of 2007, but there's still an unusual amount of cloud cover, and a fairly strong breeze, meaning it doesn't feel quite as warm. Except in my room, where all the windows are closed, because we're under siege from a plague of FLIES. Which is annoying.

We're on 23.5 here, which is the warmest temperature we've had outdoors since mid-June! And as other people have mentioned, we seem to have entered some sort of unseasonal drought

Flooding is common on the windy country lanes of Blakenhall, but, as this was the wettest of the 10 summers I have seen here, this was the deepest the flood levels had reached - this road was closed on both ends, and we had to take a car just to take this picture. Indeed, a deeper flood, just around the corner could not be reached due to the depth of this one. Much more weather like this may see my village entirely cut off.© © Will Garner
