Yes sweetdream, not far, but enough to make a difference sometimes. Temps still very marginal at the moment for what I call 'proper snow' although I make it 1.9C now with a -1.95 Dewpoint - so we are slowly getting there! And your only 6 miles up the road from me. 80s weather is the same as mine as we are only about a mile and half apart.
-
Must be very local then, here in St Ives only very wet light snow! I'm not holding out much hope for anything great here tonight. Radar showing moderate ppn here - not happening in the real world though.Very big flakes falling here.
-
-
I think that could be because we have little altitude here - I'm 39ft about sea level, great. We may have to wait a bit longer, Cambs tends to struggle when its marginal.:-)
-
Yes, seems to be getting colder from the SE - interesting to see snow in Milton Keynes, AND a lot colder than us - strange? Is there any elevation in MK'sPeterborough weather station showing 3.0 degree Temperature and DP of 2.7, St Ives weather station showing 2.9 Temperature, DP 1.6. Temperatures consistent but big variation in Dew Points considering they are only 20 miles apart, so I'm not sure what to believe being stuck in the middle of those two weather stations, I guess I'm probably somewhere in the middle of that.
-
We have ice rain here in St Ives, Temp dropping fast, so I expect wet snow sooner than later!Rain here in Cambs.
Hope the colder air in the SE gets it's skates on.
Seems to be alot warmer here Temp 2.9C Dewpoint 1.52 and falling.

Don't trust the radar tonight, it's showing light snow over my area, and we are having a blizzard right now!just had 5 minutes of snow here in mid norfolk.....looking at radar the front is splitting as it crosses norfolk, leaving me and many others in a weather-less baron waste ground!! lol
-
Just got over to St Ives I think!Wow. Heavy snow in Huntingdon and settled on all wet surfaces in minutes
-
Well, most people here have gone to bed just when the fun starts!Heavy snow now Godmanchester easily settling on all surfaces
We have a Snow to Rain to Snow event - Temps have dropped back to 0.4C
-
Heavy snow now, and settling - this is mad....
-
Thanks, my Dad in law will be pleased LOLModerate snow and a good covering mate.
-
How's things in Scunny now?
-
Rain very sleety here still, and the wind is getting up, don't know the Temps as the St Ives Weather Station is down. Sure picks it's moments!
-
Some great posts here tonight concerning marginal situations - great for learning. I think it's a fascinating event, maybe the cold air is not completely done yet?
-
Ok, there is some very heavy showery looking ppn coming our way later. It could be that if Temps stay marginal overnight this heavier stuff could fall as snow due to the volume of heavy ppn. That's my possible explanation!I read this can anyone explain
Kx
Thanks guys, I was trying to say Evaporative Cooling
-
Snow turning to rain here too, was a great cold spell - a fun time had by all.
-
Getting heavier now - if you look at the radar we are both on the edge of a big area of moderate ppn, you are closer than me !Really surprised as we are only 6 miles away here and have heavy snow
-
Struggling to get any decent snowfall here, St Ives Weather Station has also crashed, so I can't check the Temps - but I'm sure it's rising.
-
Looks like the warmer air is flooding in quicker than the ppn
-
I think you are right here Dave, this is so common in this country in these scenario's!Based on reports im reading I very much doubt we shall see the snowdepths predicted by the Met O/NAE. Seems the transition to rain is going to occur much sooner than predicted, except the GFS!
Love to be wrong for our region though but im expecting rain in around 1-2hrs.
-
A bit worrying to hear that it is raining in Leicester! These marginal events are so difficult to forecast, some areas get a dumping and others get rain/ sleet. I think altitude will play it's part tonight for those that are higher up. Also, if the air is warmer in the atmosphere it will rain at freezing on the ground!
Snow blowing around and Temp of 0.1 Dewpoint -4.34
-
Gonna be a late nite - but worth it if everything verifies. Who knows how long it will be until the next time, maybe I can get stuff done when normal weather resumesi'd say stick to the radar now. but defo ignore the gfs and ignore the Will it snow because its based on each gfs run. NAE is the best model, but all about radar really - gonna be a late one!
-
Wouldn't it be great if the whole system stalled over our region tonight, and we all woke up to heavy snow in the morning with the cold air still in place
StuieW - snap, great minds think alike.
-
Well.....that lasted a bit longer than we all thought, a good day here in the Fens!

Just had a little look out side and things are starting to get going! Heavier snow now, although very wet at the moment. If the Temps continue to fall that will change.
