Another appalling day of weather! Really can’t see anything of note (heat) for summer now. I’m sure some will say you never know… I mean Aug next, Aug - it feels like it’s been mostly terrible since last Aug. And to top it off today’s incessant wind and rain broke one of my gladiolus! Anyway, rant over (for now).

Often Sept has been a nice month. The last month of consistent >20c (low 20s), I appreciate that’s down here. It’s the last months I’ve known high 20s and even 30c. Though, we fell just short of that about 10 years ago - on 1 October. Mad that was. Anyway, fine Sept had been the case even with somewhat monsoonal August months preceding! And so, no doubt with how this summer has gone it’ll now p**s down through Sept! But supposing we tap into heat and the ground is still somewhat dry, could be interesting for records.

Seeing members’ pics and well; here’s mine. I thought I’d look at the data and I see, since 1 Jan, six days where’s it’s rained a quarter of an inch in a day (about 6.35mm, so not even a finger nail)! Tad dry!

You can tell that front is edging in by the looks of the reports coming in. DPs have gone up. DPs of 15c and over down Bristol, Exeter, Cardiff, Bournemouth. Largely still 27c - 31c. Single digits remain here, atm. But expected to increase right? I’m not sure I see a great deal of rain/thunder. Makes tomorrow interesting as seems we could see another 30c plus day. Muggier I expect!

Just seeing it, in black and white. But more so that DP. 40c with DP of 7c. I feel like I’m back in Seville.

But people don’t walk about with fan shields in urban areas.

I’m just a few miles from Heathrow and stepping outside is unreal, and yesterday was something itself. And I’ve been to many a hot place. Lived in Asia. I even got back from Turkey not so long ago. But wow, the breeze is hot. You can feel the heat off ground, air, sun. Sensational. Not only have we hit 40c we broke the national record before 12pm. Sure it’s been quite warm to hot for a bit, but out of nowhere. Non-weather enthusiasts probably won’t quite appreciate quite what has happened! 52 degrees north!

We have, and there’s currently multiple locations above 24c. Shoreham and Kenley both over 27c (although Shoreham had been down to 22c) East Mids airport was on 28c and 1am. higher 850hpa crept in… Channel Islands hadn’t dropped below 29c on the last report!

Yeah, now that was woeful for the amount of cloud. Deary me, I mean Aug under 100 hours sun. This Jan was just as sunny and I believe East Anglia had a sunnier Jan than Aug! But the summer months, while cloudy, held around average this way. You’d not expect so much cloud before temps of 21-23c average. And it felt like a longggg cloudy spell, can’t really it being life that before!

Incorrect. 2018 hit 35c and in the doubt we had about 17 days of 30c at various points amongst mid to high 20s. July’s daily average was 28c. I can’t speak for Dudley, if it was anything like Hinckley the weekend I was there then mid 20s sure. And the grass was green!

35c in 2018. But these kinds of temps are usually confined. And not so widespread.

So this here right now - even the leaves are wilting. Ground solid. And it’s not the first time. Like you say though, rainfall is lower that most realise here. Even I didn’t appreciate so much. Shielded for sure, and with influence from the continent. It means warmer summers but can get some rather cold winter nights. London is famed for rain globally but it’s totals are similar to many less rainy famed cities. Sydney I believe has more! Here it tends to fall frequently and little over the autumn winter, hence the perception. But long dry periods not at all unusual. When it does rain, given the ground, lI think it’s going to smell epic!

I feel Aug is mostly pleasantly warm, not hot. All the best weather as described precedes it. But often the temps will hold around 20-25c bar a dank day - in this quadrant mind. Clearly in some parts it’s rotten where we’d not doubt be complaining! But then we have Sept and that’s been friendly and rather nice for good periods. It’s October where I begins to hibernate I do apologise in advance when we now no doubt proceed to have a shoddy Sept!

I was going to say I’ve seen many posts; finally summer weather, only good day, been rubbish so enjoying it. But I recall more decent summers than not. Maybe the SE is a lot better for it than we realise l, I don’t know. We’ve seen 35c hit and exceeded more often in years. And 100/120 days plus of >20c is pretty standard. Not consistently below 20c until October. And what seems to be happening more is periods where the grass goes brown. Sure Aug can be wet and no doubt will be given how dry it’s been.

Generally low humidity isn’t ideal for keeping temperatures up. It took quite an event to get a low of 23.9c and quite how it did happen, who knows. From what I can see online, London (example) was quite a bit below that. And London can hold onto heat from the day! I’m not sure how good models are with temps for evening. This then has a big part to play for tomorrow - can’t see a cloud free day.
