  1. The mammatus cloud formation was indeed under the cells that would have been 12 miles west of Lincoln at 1pm, they passed us at about 1:40pm with hail but no thunder. The developing cell was a different cell seen at 4:16pm going to the North of Lincoln.
  2. This showery flow has been disappointing here in the sense there was no thunder but I did get a few pictures of some cloud developments with my mate's camera. His camera is awful so sorry about the colour balance and graininess in some of them! Pics are cumulus turning into cumulonimbus and some mammatus formations.
  3. Hope to see some thundery snow showers this weekend and into next week now that would make my month. If it's going to be cold it should be stormy and thundery like that wonderful March cold in 2007!
  4. Nonsense. Why was March 2006 so cold then That was only two years ago. People have stupidly short memories. Another properly cold northerly month will happen again soon it is just a matter of time. For all we know this month could be it.
  5. December. While it was interesting to see 2.5 inches of snow on easter day and lying all day I would much rather be going into warmer weather by now but at least getting cold weather out of the way early means that we should not have to have another ruined summer although I fear it will be poor anyway!

  7. Even if we get this horrible cold snap for the next two weeks things can change very quickly in April and 21C is certainly a possibility for the last week, hopefully. I remember back to April 2003 which had a cold and dismal start but by mid month temperatures up to 28C I remember moving house From Berkshire to Derbyshire and it was 26*C , a hot day, and I think the date was 16th. Obivously this isn't going to be happening any time the next two weeks but don't rule it out for the final couple weeks.
  8. 13.1C in Lincoln and mostly sunny with few scattered clouds.
  9. OK can someone fill in the situation a bit for me here, there is about up to 500j/kg CAPE and -2/-3 LI hanging over much of England right now but in the vast majority of places very small cumulus humilis at best. Nothing seems to be developing at all, and I'm thinking there is simply no trigger available to initiate deep convection. Isn't a front such as a cold front or surface trough expected to come through the UK some time this afternoon? Pure surface heating alone is not a good initiator in this case for any proper convection so it seems so if that is all we are going on then one could be quite confident to assume nowhere in England apart from maybe one or two coastal location with a better moisture supply will get any thunder. A wasted opportunity!
  10. A torrential rain shower just passed through Lincoln at about 2:15-2:20 but Neweather radar shows nothing of the sort just light rain. It was bouncing off the ground though it was so heavy. Also it's about 9C here and overcast.
  11. Plenty of NO showers here today in Lincoln. Also, funny cold snap this, temperature only -2 degrees below average which is about right for early march and overnight lows above average. Cold snap indeed.

  13. There was a range of temperature spanning 28C in East Anglia but it certinaly didn't actually get anywhere near 28C.
  14. Totally insubstancial of course but why not take a guess: January 6.6 (had it duh) February 5.7 (will get cooler) March 4.9 (Coldest month of the year should have swapped places with february) April 7.8 (Cool & showery) May 13.1 (Only month significantly warm compared to average bar january June 14.3 (Very dull with northerly winds dominating) July 16.1 (Best month of the year and dry) August 14.7 (Cool and disappointing) September 13.5 (Average and dull probably wet and windy at times) October 12.2 (Mild zonality) November 7.7 (Wet) December 7.1 (Typical even larger teapot month) Average: 10.31C

  16. Well it would be something good to see a white Christmas again, I am hoping for that some day. I think my liking of hot/warm weather is something related to my memories of that associated with severe/strong thunderstorms in particular, especially in other more hot and humid countries. Another reason is that I feel the cold easily and my body can, however, tolerate high temperatures very well. I just seem enjoy coping with 30-35*C and full on sunshine such as in Rome summer 2007 where I could walk around the town endlessly in the scorching heat with no problem, whereas the people I was with couldn't stick the heat. Just something to do with my body build I guess. Back here in England when I got back it was 14*C mid-day in July, black and grey clouds and windy and I wanted to go right back! I used to live in Berkshire where it could occasionally exceed 30*C in the summer. I will never forget a massive storm on July 3rd early morning 1999 after a hot and sticky day, so that memory sticks in my mind, just that feel before a powerful storm. OK so a thunderstorm can happen in any temperature but when it is 25*C with 90% humidity outside there seems to be a lot more energy for it to be a spectacular powerful storm. In my memories a warm and sticky period in the summer in the UK has usually ended with an outbreak of good thunderstorms. Lincolnshire in particular gets more than enough of that compared to anywhere else in the UK. So summer 2007 may not have had much heat but some good storms this year, about 13 thunderstorms in June alone. Here I have generally experienced about twice the storms a year I would in Berkshire. I've thought after graduating from my course here in the UK and getting some other work I may spend some time in the Marshall Islands because I've always wanted to experience life there (hot and humid but actually hardly any thunderstorms, average less than Lincolnshire does!).
  17. Hot and humid, hazy, unstable with intermittent rainshowers, then a warm sticky evening with a slight breeze and a colossal thunderstorm at night. The worst would be wet, windy and cold, and windy is the worst. I also hate snow, unless I'm inside with a powerful heater.
  18. I hope this isn't too late: 2007 CET Prediction: 10.43*C
