Simon Keeling (off weatheronline) for Midlands today gave his forecast for Xmas. Said rain should clear to bright spells and a few showers, only wintriness would be a little sleet on the staffordshire moorlands and high ground of shropshire, so in other words naff all!

Snow in Cannock now settling, temperature 0.5c, what happened to the "only settling above 200m-300m" or whatever it was the met office were saying??
-
Moderate rain with flakes of wet snow mixed in, I would say 30% snow, 70% rain but its better than nothing I suppose! Temp is 2.5c, did drop quite quickly at one point but seems to have become more steady.

This thread is killing me. I'm not sure whether to look back fondly at the past or to cry about our
recent winters. The forecasts really do make you realise what we have been missing.
I feel sorry for those younger than I am who haven't seen a decent Snow event during their lifetime.
Yes those forecasts were from before I was even born! Just seeing them is like staring into a different world, oh where have those days gone, I would give anything to get a few days of that!

Ha imagine if that did happen this winter. the whole country would be plunged into chaos. I would like to see it happen not only cos I love the cold weather but to see just how unprepared our country is for the climate we SHOULD have

oh i wish i was old enough to be around for that i wasnt even born then! the best snow I can remember is the one we had in feb, and going by what people are recalling from decades ago, it was nothing compared days gone by. but you never know, we could have one more forecast like that before the world boils!
