No lying snow here so far this winter, so hoping that we can at least get 1 day of snowcover at 0900 from this spell.
Hello there reef, I'd be very interested to know how things go in Hull, due to it being so near the coast. Would be nice to know if you get anything laying, be sure to let us all know how the snow progresses!
lets hope that mild sector gets delayed on the gfs today and tomorrow for later on mondayIf it does we could get a real dumping :o
Yes, that mild sector is a thorn in the side. Though I'm quite hopeful that the uppers shouldn't get higher than -3 so that the sleet that may fall maybe more of a snow mix, and any potential cover could remain.
im not overly confident this area has been predicted 2-5cms on so many occasions yet ive nt seen more than 2mm for a long while. metoffice saying 5-10 this time round would be nice if they underestimated things for a change.Yes, I know how you feel. Remember the event before Christmas (the snow to rain one)? The national forecast seemed convinced most places north of the Wash might see snow, but it was just rain here. The East Mids local forecast (with good old Des Coleman!) was consistent in forecasting rain then. I might be more inclined to follow them!
Well here in South Normanton NetWeather Snow Risk says about 2mm on Sun and 4mm on Monday, Would be nice to see some of the white stuff around here as i am 450Feet ASLChris
Ah, you're favoured! Hopefully the very slight altitude (about 150m is that?) may give you the edge in the mild sector! Fingers crossed!

Not seen much snow here this winter appart from about 3 dustings. Also just over 1cm
which lasted a few days. Last easter sunday was awesome though with about 8cm
I don't think there's been a flake in the city of Nottingham! There has been in the Peak District and other outlying areas, but not here.
You'll be one of the first in the firing line as this comes in!
Same here, not much snow this year apart from a few dusting's, can't complain though considering some have had none. Maybe this time i will have enough for a snowball fightWould be lovely, wouldn't it? Most parts of the country seem to be desperate for just that something special this time!
-
me too. lets hope this easterly delivers the goods
Would be nice! I'm sure there are many round here that could do with a good fall! Just from this winter, everywhere else has had a fall, though Nottingham always seems to miss it, guess the same for the other cities, Leicester, Derby, Hull. I hear Sheffield may have had some though...

So what we think - 6 foot of snow Monday morning so I don't have to go to work?
Oooh, if only! You should tell the Met Office - light snow showers forecast Sunday night across the East Midlands region, no doubt similar for our friends slightly further north.
Their Monday to Wednesday forecast:
Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:Cold, further snow at times giving heavy falls in places, especially over hills. Snow may turn to rain or sleet at times at lower levels and on the coast.

Yeah we'll let the Yorkshire folk in too! Humberside too.
Yeah, thought that would be an idea!
-
South yorkshire, the midlands + central southern england
Well, my opinion is Herts to Lincs should be part of East Midlands, Oxfordshire to Cheshire as West Midlands and Hampshire should go in the south east group.
-
Well, just to start this one off.
Would like to add S.Yorks and Humberside to this to make the area worthwhile?
Let me know if anyone wants me to expand this to a greater area.
-
We need a midlands one after all we are gonna get 1cm of snow
I was thinking East Midlands, Humberside and South Yorks. What do you think, shall we?
-
Will be gutted if back home in Dorset they get more snow than in Nottingham!
(And before anyone asks, Dorset is South West in my book)

Quote Darren Bett on Weatherview just now: "Those winds now picking up from the east, never a good direction at this time of year."
 I'm sure many here would disagree!
What exactly is a good direction for him at this time of year? Dear me...

Steady rain in Nottingham, very cold also. That's my take of getting soaked in Market Square this evening, waiting for a mate, only to later find out he wasn't gonna be meeting up there this week because of exams. Next to no chance I was going to Trent Bridge alone.

You mean the Park? Take a look as a detour when you're next walking into town - it's quite different to Lenton!
A lovely sunny winters day with a max of 6.2 now 4.7c.
I might well do, I reckon I'd probs be over that way (Allington Ave.) sometime next week for revision, could give it a look! See if it compared with Sandbanks in Poole (which is just a bit special)!
-
It prob feels cold today as it's a very exposed spot to the westerly winds. But I imagine for marginal frost/ice formation those extra few feet make the difference.
Just taken a 'turn about the Park' and this sunshine is lovely on all the fancy houses - makes me wish I was rich enough to afford one!
Ah, that was on Wednesday. I'd had a massive hike from mine to the QMC to return a library book, then off to a friend's to revise with her. Just walking up that road (and this is midday) just felt colder. Like I said, might have been me.
Didn't realise those houses were the nice ones...never seen 'em myself.
Still sunny this side of Derby Road!

Clear blue skies with just the odd fast moving cloud. Lovely day with an almost spring feel to it. Was a pretty wild & wet night last night - I do enjoy the Atlantic for providing lots of weather!
Despite the wet night last night (which didn't damped our spirits too much!) it's been a good weekend with lots of sunshine and deep blue skies. Gimme this over most of the weekends this winter anyday!
3.4c min now 6.1c
The light shining into our house is blinding! What's going on with this?!?!
By the way, you might just be right about that road up to the Park being colder at the top - I obscurely felt colder as I went up that road the other day. Maybe it was my imagination though...
-
Great for you guys! I'd love it!
Nothing like that in Nottingham...t'was a bit breezy earlier in the evening, but now it's just still. Welcome to the UK's non-weather capital!
-
Afraid it's not been colder - at least not outside my house anyway! I think my close to city centre (Market Square 10 min walk) location keeps it slightly warmer too. I wonder if local topography makes a difference too since I live in a bowl shaped area - perhaps all that warm student air rolls down from Lenton into here!
I shouldn't have provoked you! Every time I post on here I'm gonna get some student banter back, wherever it's to!
And I needn't post obs either as we have a Lenton correspondent!
-
-2c out there at the moment making it the coldest night of the winter here, just about. For here this winter - a very low temp indeed.
Has it not been colder? I thought it must have been! Must bring my thermometer back...or make my decent one work again!
Oh and to keep properly on topic...frost didn't lift round here (East Dorset) all day on anything that was mildly north facing or our garden...I've seen ice in car parks and on roads (unusual given my lifetime/location!)
-
I think the figure of 1.7 degrees is referring to the first part of the month, though it is very poorly worded and there is no definite limit on what this "first part of the month" is (it could well have been the first few night-time hours or something). Would have also been nice to have the average for the whole of the month present, seems a tiny bit selective to me, that.

This could have been an interesting one...

Having checked the archive, it seems Telfords were the unit of exaggeration. Is it an SI unit?

I've been longing to see this thread for weeks now! This was so much fun to read in winters past! Though, I guess that the alerts are in much more advanced phases at the current time? I think you could claim Level 4 Ramps at a push at the moment!
But thanks so much for resurrecting this thread! Brilliant!

That precip over North Wales appears to be moving south quickly enough to reach Bristol by midnight or soon afterwards.
Further north the precip over Cumbria and North Yorkshire will probably reach areas including the West Country by about 4 am tomorrow morning.
It'll depend whether most of us in the West Country actually believe that it'll happen! There's no snow in these parts even in winter, let alone now! :o
-
I got a shock just checking the forecast for my location (BH31) to see a heck of a lot more precipitation forecast and lower temperatures! Having checked the forecast for Norwich as well, seems the roles have been reversed! Is this now more of a western thing? If so, that's great! I've not seen snow in this part of Dorset for ages!!! Sunny Bournemouth, not only do we have no snow, but no severe weather full stop! Wel....give or take a few years ago I suppose.
I'd be inclined to agree, but it did snow on the day of my driving test, 3rd Jan this year, in Bournemouth, albeit for 10mins...and they weren't the most impressive flakes, but it's some form of snow and for Bournemouth, that's impressive!

Bournemouth needs a dump (of snow that is - first time I've put Bournemouth and dump in the same sentence, I never will again about the lovely place) because a cover is well overdue! I do have some pics from last April from Verwood when snow just about stuck around in the morning. I hope that all of East Dorset is all white come Tues!
