Around 3inches near Tutbury, roads difficult. Very excited as expecting it to have turned to rain! Work is 28miles away so waiting a bit, really want an extra hour in bed then out to play!
-
Not sure where you are reporting from, assuming derbyshire? how about location in sig or profile?
Staffordshire but only a couple of miles away from Derbyshire border, sorry!
-
I have to say I couldn't contain my excitement last night, running about like a two year old & this morning, wow loved it. Popped out in the car to drive further into Derbyshire, lots of cars turning back but we kept going! Parked up & had a couple of hours walk, looking at all the animal tracks from last night & guessing the nights story from the prints. Got a pocket full of chocolate & just enjoyed the white sparkly beauty of it all.

Interminable rain now turned to snow, I know, it won't last long or probably won't settle however it's lifted my VERY low spirits just to see it out of the window on another dull day.....................
-
Sorry peeps! couldn't help myself..but erm yes this is somewhere in Sweden
Rimini..Italy! aaaarggghhh stop stop.
We can only dream........................
-
I take it back, there are a few snowflakes falling so I am feeling the snow excitement.
Hooray! Enjoy it, it must have travelled up country!
-
Unfortunately that's not the case for me. It is about 2C and overcast for me.
Well, don't be envious as it's now been replaced with dank, wet, cold yeuk & not a snow flake to be seen as per usual of late.......... I knew it was short lived but that's ridiculous!!
-
Morning all, just shows how desperate for snow i've become because as I drove from home ( nr Tutbury) to work (Tamworth) & those lovely white crystals fell from the sky I couldn't stop grinning! I know it won't last etc etc but, all the same, it's so nice to see & it's still snowing on & off now, cheered me up no end. Trying not to think it's very temporary...................

We are running out of winter though...sun getting warmer, stronger and longer days....spring snow is so short lived... this rain and mud has cost me dear too.....I lost two much loved horses through accidents in their field due to the heavy, deep and slippery mud...One was an exquisite Spanish mare that was my heart and soul..she broke her shoulder in a fall and my lovely old gypsy cob lady that I have loved for 27 years twisted her arthritic knee and was in so much pain I had to let her go. Hearbreaking ...all that rain brings only misery
How awful & so very sad to hear, as fellow horse lover & animals in general, that must have been heartbreaking for you. This is the other side of the relentless rain, not just depressing for us snow lovers but lives have been lost, it isn't just lack of snow. I look out over a paddock & the horses have had to be moved as it's a bog. Surely it has to stop raining soon, it will be the lambs soon, they can cope with cold but not the wet.

What an abomination of a a winter!
Sick of rain, sick of wind, sick of slate grey skies, and sick of waking up every morning to zonal dross on the NWP.
Fast approaching write off time for January now im afraid, this pattern is seriously locked in,the low heights that have been there across Greenland show no sign of abaiting, the meto long ranger is guff out to the 1st week of Feb and to cap it all i saw what was either a bee or a wasp yesterday! Whats that all about??????
Hats off to those keeping the flame lit in the model output thread but one does get the feeling its just not going to happen.
If i were a betting man i'd stake a fortune on those blues and purples over Greenland being replaced with yellows and oranges come march/april.That might be enough to bring snow but for me its just adds to the frustration because by that time the sun will be much stronger and higher in the sky and the sound of 'drip drip drip wont be from the relentless wind and rain it will be the sound of any snow melting.
Its up there with 88/89 for cackness and probably on reflection worse due to the ammount of rain.
Rant over...
I couldn't agree with you more! I really am at the end of my tether, the leaden skies really do weigh me down, especially driving to work (where i'm hoping not to have to go to when a major snow event occurs) And I'm sick of people saying " well, it could be worse, it could be snowing" or " I don't want it to snow i've got to go & see uncle Fred this Saturday" Blah, blah ......... How could this weather we are having be worse! Maybe it's that some of us are more affected by grey skies than others but snow & frost aren't just beautiful to look at, it's exciting to have the change. As for stray wasps & bees...........
I love to walk at the weekends when I can but even I don't want to go out in this, it's so depressing. I am still hopeful for Feb & I don't think you have to worry about the drip drip ( I hate that sound too) in Feb too much. Chin up now , watch & wait....

I'm living in hope for February, my birthday month & I do often get the best present for me, snow! I won't be writng Feb off, it's too far ahead to say otherwise I reckon! Things change on a sixpence...........

This winter is really starting to get on my nerves now. Actually doesn't feel like winter, more like a perpetual autumn with all this rain and wind. Had hardly any frosts in the midlands and absolutely no snow, not even one flake. The models keep hinting at something cold and then in the next run they all backtrack and its back to square one. I love the winter, but if this one continues like this i can't wait for the warmer weather and summer. Better that the the endless disappointments when it comes to this country and any kind of snow chances.
Me too! The bulbs are coming up, particularly the snow drops & that's a real welcome sight BUT I really want some good snow events, frosts etc FIRST as it feels 'backwards' that spring shows signs before winter has bitten. I'm always optimistic for snow in February because that's the month historically for it. Here's hoping!

stunning!Wonder if we'll wake to a light covering of snow tomorrow, meto still forecasting snow showers for my area.
Wow, thank you for these pictures! I've never seen anything like it. I'm envious of you, it must have been breathtaking.

Blizzard gone now, looks wet & yeuk :(
I was looking forward to driving home in a blizzard, love that
-
The transition was very quick here, although none of it settled it went from wet snow to rain within 5 mins
Oh no !!!!
-
Tamworth blizzards!
-
Still like billy-o here in Tamworth, sticking on cars & some paths
-
Coming down like billy - o here in Tamworth, trying to stick now
-
Snowing really well here in Tamworth, shame I'm at work & not home to really enjoy it! Bring it on..............

Some pictures of the great 1991 blizzards in coventry upto 31cms that day.
Wow, that's what we want asap, definitely no work with that much, out to play instead!
-
Morning all, sugar coating at home (nr Tutbury) but a blizzard at Tamworth a while ago, more to come in the sky
-
Had a fabulous walk in the snow at home yesterday (near Tutbury) fields & fields with nothing but animal & bird foot prints & deep snow drifts. The snow was a dry as heaps of sugar, it was actually dazzling me wow ! woke today to a little extra dusting but at work now in Tamworth & pretty heavy snow now falling. I don't want to think about the mild arriving at the weekend to take it all away.............
-
How brilliant is this! Snow arriving hours early, left work in Tamworth 5.30 to steady snow, loved the journey in a blizzard to home nr Tutbury & still coming down! I'm a cat on hot bricks dashing to windows etc hoping for a snow day off work tomorrow to play & wildlife watch. Enjoy it everyone if you can!
-
I think this snizzle stuff some of us have had is maybe the freezing fog that's falling? I'm sure that's what my family said it was when I was growing up, sort of makes sense to me anyway (but what do I know.................)
