Thanks for all your time and effort into your postings about this cold snap Steve, I enjoy reading them and learning from your skills... much appreciated!
Yes I have to agree it was obvious to even the untrained amateur eye that decent precipitation to produce the snowfall predicted was lacking and indeed where it was to come from? the radars were looking quite dry and the convection precipitation just fizzled out from the SE after 2100. I realise no one can control the weather so something scientific must have happened to cause this dry up meteorologically, i would be interested to read the NW experts thoughts and views on this especially after the ramping from the BBC/Skyweather and the news media. I suppose forewarned is forearmed but this was grossly over exaggerated!
So I suppose then Paul it would be fair to assume the snow projections for the next 48 hours were for the media to cover themselves in the public eye in case?
I dont understand it either Jan cant see where the precipitation is going to come from to deliver 10 to 20cm of snow grains but these guys obviously have a rabbit in a hat somewhere so lets wait and see tomorrow but somehow i don't think so
LOL lets face it the Met Office ramps it up, the press get hold of it ramp it up even further, people go mad and strip the shelves in the supermarkets, we run out of salt and for what? Lets hope tomorrow it was just a bad dream....
I think not cant see where its suddenly going to develop from not now... the radar returns just seem to fizzle out. Unless something unexpected happens I think we have to face it and enjoy what some of us have already got and look forward to next time........
I have to agree and also with Mr Murrs post too. Unless something has gone drastically wrong with the weather. I remember the guy Joe B from Accuweather saying the UK was going to get the mother of all snowstorms last Sunday then having to backtrack a few days later, I sense the same happening with our own forecasters and yet Francis Wilson on Sky was forecasting this snow it like the BBC were earlier... unless of course they know something that isnt apparent to others. If so we will wake tomorrow to the forecasted centimetres nationwide however at the moment it seems the party is over for now... who's got the hoover! Im off down the pub!
Being an older fossil, I think it's probably now 50/50 , the precipitation is so raggedy it appears convection reliant which is not always easy to pin down. We all know London has it's own climate in some ways so it's wait and see time but i wouldn't hold out a lot of hope unless something miraculous changes things.... the radars are not overflowing with reliable precipitation for the London area
Guys, come on cheer up.... it's not all over yet... from reading some of these recent posts it seems that if snow is NOT exactly falling out of the sky at a lampost near you then some are instantly becoming negative and givin up.
Be patient and give nature a chance to develop... good things come to those who wait
Have to agree with you there too. Just depends how much umph the system coming up from continent has to shunt the train as to how far north and west the heavy snow goes. I also think we will start to see a slow thaw from midweek next week in this area but it may take a while to melt away.
Hello Snowdays Could be a few snow showers for the Greater London area in the NNE flow overnight but nothing of any real significance. Most of the convective activity is more to the SE
LOL don't bank on it Kold take it from someone who travels the route every day by train..... if the snow pushes all the way into the London area from Surrey which seems likely... trains around here notoriously come to a stand still
