  1. BBC reporting a lightning strike on the air traffic control tower at Gatwick!
  2. Block of flats have been struck by lightning in Bermondsey, south London. http://audioboo.fm/boos/398654-lightning-impact-south-london
  3. Brightening here now but the rain is still coming down. May be able to venture out at some point...
  4. Just caught a CG to my south! Probably about 3 miles away over towards Mill Hill/Hendon way. Rain light now. EDIT: Scratch that, it's tearing it down again.
  5. One flash and a crack thunder. It's currently bolting it down here in EN5. Seen heavier rain though.
  6. Bar the clouds I can see to the east of me, the skies look very clear and calm as far as the eye can see from my location in EN5. I have an almost perfect 180 degree view to my south from my balcony.
  7. Just heard a very loud rumble here in Camden (NW1). Raining lightly though. Dark cloud to the south of us currently. I gather this is the cell that was heard in Battersea.
  8. They've ordered mandatory evacuations of the NC Outer Banks now for tourists. Timing! We were discussing during our stay last week, that if we left it until a week later we wouldn't have had all the rain we had during our stay (it wasn't that bad looking back). Happy now we chose the week we did. http://www2.wnct.com/weather/2010/sep/01/67/hurricane-earl-move-gaining-strength-ar-354686/
  9. I'm currently on holiday in NYC staying with family who live near the coast of Long Island Sound - very prone to storm surges. The development of Earl is certainly a cause for concern as we've already two days of sickness and I hope we don't have the holiday ruined by having to be evacuated. We were in North Carolina when Danielle brushed passed. I'm hoping this bugger dies or misses us completely.
  10. Not much rain ATM but out of the blue just had a big flash and crack of thunder straight after here in Barnet. Towards Dollis Valley.
  11. I've experienced thundersnow I think in winter 2004 along with my then workmates. It was that day when we were suddenly hit by snow showers and the roads went down to a crawl. Luckily I only lived a short walk away from my place of work (in Oxford) but one poor girl I worked with had to get back to Swindon and she didn't get home until 1am after leaving work before 5pm!
  12. Two more flashes seen now from the Kent storm. Must certainly be a bigg'un.
  13. I can confirm I've just seen (well about 5 minutes ago) a faint flash from that East Kent cell up here in Barnet.
  14. Can't see much on this webcam at the moment but it might be of use to some: http://www.ferrycheap.com/webcam.asp
  15. Yes, a beast of a storm. You can see the convergence line running NW from London right up to Staffordshire. But it looks like any convection forming over London is simply dieing and everything is happening towards the NW.
  16. That's probably what just passed over here in Barnet. Saw one flash of lightning to my east but there was lots of rain!Whooop! There goes another flash!!
  17. Very dark here now. Storm approaching from the west. The heavens are about to open. Not heard any thunder yet.
  18. I think I could hear your storm up here Timmead. Lots of thunder, and it seemed to pass to the south and east of Barnet. No rain here yet, but it's dark outside and the wind has picked up.
  19. I can see all the storm clouds surrounding us (a cell to my east and one to my south) but it's still sunny here in Barnet (well it's just disappeared now). I think I heard a faint rumble of thunder a few minutes ago. Must be that Barnet shield keeping them away! <_<
