Yes it does warrant moving in my books, especially when its forecast to last longer.
I hate heat, no other way of putting it.
-
I seriously need to consider moving away from the south east.
I hate very warm / hot weather especially when there are no storms thrown in.
Somewhere wet and cold for me, thats what i need.
-
The mets forecast of 10 washout summers was music to my ears, i hope they will still be right after this hot spell.
-
Will we ever reach 40 celsius ?
I sincerely hope not.

Hi all,
Havent posted on here for a while.
As one of the few people who doesnt like hot weather, the charts look utterly horrible to me !
Yuk, too much heat with no storms. No thanks.
Rant over, hope all is well at netweather.
-
Hopefully be alright. Road surfaces hold heat for longer and as it's been mild recently and the cold coming in so fast they won't cool down fast enough for snow to settle easily on them. It would have to be really heavy snow in a very short space of time to settle on the roads during daylight hours tomorrow. Overnight it would though
Thanks, i will just have to hope theres no heavy snow in that area tonight. Looks more like the south coast and kent to me for the main risk.
-
Morning all,
Not sure if this is the right place but im wondering if anyone can give me an idea of how much snow is likely to fall in the thetford area between now and monday morning. It looks like light snow / sleet to me but thought I would ask here. I am travelling there from London and back and dont want to be stuck in snow jams.
Thanks,
Michael

Torro have just added kent to their forecast

Had a very localised storm(s) yesterday which basically hovered directly above us for ages. Its the last time i will ever pray for storms as ive never witnessed so many cg's with instantaneous thunder.
What on earth happened to Estofex ? I would have put our storm at least a level 1 due to the strong cg's which terrified the neighbourhood.

Some of these flakes are the size of biscuits ! Incredible, but not good on roads or pavements.

Woken up by very loud thundersnow in north london at 6.07 am, might have 2 flashes on film.
Huge wet flakes that gave about 5mm.
Does anyone know if the meto got snowed in at the staff car park last night? Would have made a great news bulletin watching the shift change there.
-
Just over 150mm here in north london and I cannot remember scenes like this for many years.
The orange glow last night was powerful enough to shine through my curtains and create a very strange glow inside.
The fir tree has a broken branch on the bottom left due to weight of snow and there are numerous deep drifts around here.
Only just stopped snowing in last few minutes.
-
Perhaps its still green because there are some very heated conversations between the meto and the likes of tfl, city of london, number 10 advisors etc etc.
London cannot afford a mass 2 day sickie right now and if the met call it wrong there will be heads rolling. Just a thought.

Hi,
How do I order next years (2009) nw calendar ?
Many thanks

Thanks for the comments.
The music is Jimmy page playing white summer / black mountainside.
The forest in the opening shot has a path right alongside it and is where myself and 4 conservationists were walking whilst the kensal rise tornado was in full swing, we had hail and lightning and the front edge of the cell would have been clearly visible behind those pylons. Unfortunatley I was not a member of any weather forum at the time which is a real bummer because I would have read the warnings and had my camcorder with me, needless to say we just thought it was a bit of a stormy old day
Yes Phil I will post some more soon, just trying to work out the best settings for some of my other footage.

Hi all,
After reading the reports of jumbo hail etc I really hoped this would kick off big style but it simply hung around forever looking increasingly dodgy.
Stuck at work all weekend so its been nice to tinker with this mixture of handheld and webcam footage:

Finally got round to using my ex f1 and so far im loving it.
Got lots to learn about the whole hd thing though, and taking pictures properly instead of using the 'auto' function all the time
Had 3 flash bangs yesterday and 1 very heavy downpour:
Apologies for the shaky 'woops wheres me tripod' filming
-
Nice one aj, lets have some more.
Poor fishy, top forecasting legend and we all take the mick. Ha Ha

How about a netweather anthem,
Need to have the tune 'i will survive' in your head whilst reading this:
First I was afraid
I was petrified,
by the cape and lifted index
on the charts last nite
those synoptics cant be right
gfs must have it wrong
now the met have tagged along
and all the forums start to throng
torro are back
back on the case
theyve got warnings up to here
and nado’d up the goddam place
now estofex have set the clock
and carols humdinging with glee
mr fish has just been beckoned
Christ i need to save my tree
yes, i am mad.
-
Great idea this.
Are we allowed to poke a bit of fun at the met etc in here ?
-
There once was a bloke called ted,
who filmed lightning direct from his shed,
one day he screamed YIKES,
after several close strikes,
and now he hides under the bed.
-
Thanks Paul and Michael,
The footage is from 2 industrial webcams and my trusty panasonic dv cam, I use windows moviemaker 2 a lot because its so easy to get on with but the way I do them is too slow and tedius, each clip has to be sped up with moviemakers speed up function and then all sorted for a final mix. Its the end of a 1 year experiment which has taught me a lot.
I would imagine its quicker and better quality if you take individual shots on a good cam and then timelapse all the stills.
Most of it has been on and off on youtube but I got fed up with endless spam, copyright infringement warnings from some nutter in the states and youtube randomly recoding and resizing my vids whenever they felt like it
Vimeo definitely seems to be a better site all round and when I finally go the hd route I will be filming wildlife as much as poss.

Hi all,
Does anyone know when this heat is likely to break down ?
Preferably a thundery one but anything cooler. All I can see on the gfs is heat right out into fi.
By the way, i dont like heat.
