  1. Atrocious weather, 0c, heavy snow, blizzard conditions.
  2. Temperature 0.2c, howling gale all day with severe non-stop drifting of old snow, been dry and now starting to snow lightly. The heavier precipitation is slowly merging and rotating towards the Midlands. Should have some fun soon.
  3. The twenty first century meteorologist relies too heavily on computer modelling. This lazy controlling mindset filters through to joe public, blinding everyone into chaotic confusion. Scrap the computers, bring back pencil, paper, common sense and develop those excellent FAX charts. My forecast for the next few days is uncertain. There is a greater uncertainty for next week. Into February and the risk of rain and snowfall is at odds with each other, it will probably be dry across much of the country and wet around the edges.
  4. Light continuous snow for the last two hours with some heavier bursts. Road salted and clear / slushy. No problems. Just about to clear the drive for a trip into Shrewsbury later. The change on the way looks to be cold zonal. The first front approaching Ireland appears to be slipping south east. The low pressure systems in the north atlantic are having the stuffing sucked out of them over Iceland. Cannot see any mild south westerlies for the weekend. Will be expecting blizzards Friday, followed by brief milder air before turning colder. So long as it stays as snow on the mountains, I dont really give a fig.
  5. Richbiss... not quite true: Headline: Snow returning from the south. This Evening and Tonight: Cloudy but largely dry at first. Through the evening and overnight, outbreaks of snow will extend north across much of the region, with some further accumulations likely, particularly in the south. Widespread ice will be an additional hazard tonight. Minimum temperature -3 °C. Wednesday: Cloudy with outbreaks of mainly light snow in many areas, bringing the possibility of some further slight accumulations. Temperatures will struggle to rise above freezing once again. Maximum temperature 0 °C. Updated: 1631 on Tue 22 Jan 2013
  6. Lots of spindrift, snow light and steady, about 2cm+ with drifting, roads salted and snow covered, traffic moving. What is all the fuss about?
  7. Updated fax chart at noon shows a trough developing off northern ireland. Check the radar at 2.30pm and this trough is beginning to form as bands of showers hitting the northern coast of ireland. This should translate into more intense areas of showers later this evening across wales and the midlands. The first wintry showers are begiinning to hit this area.
  8. Temperature 4.0c, dipped to 3.2c during last rain shower 30 minutes ago. Max temp 4.4c at 11.30am. 1cm snow depth at 9.30pm Sunday. Rain started at 7.00am this morning, soon washed away the trace of white. All very fickle, this area tends to be shielded from the Chesire Gap, latest radar showing strong shower activity heading this way. Would expect some sleet.
  9. Good 6 inches of snow. Still snowing but since afternoon, wet snow falling has meant a good consolidation of snow on the ground. Spent time building a 12 foot high snowman with the kids.
  10. After a brief lull, heavy snow falling again in Stiperstones village, 3-4 inches of the white stuff!
  11. Zero, freezing rain all day, no snowflakes. Lots of ice, dry ground, very windy. Seems the main frontal precipitation is being deflected north eastwards across the country. Perhaps the easterly flow is winning. Otherwise, crap forecasting and really pathetic non-snow event.
  12. 1c. light rain, strong winds, very predictable. Good luck for everyone living east of me.
  13. It has been blowing a gale since 7.00am this morning and the wind caused the temperature to rise above freezing to reach 1.5 degreees celsius at around 10.00am. The ground is solid frozen, slight frost now melted. Current temperature is falling and close to zero. We still have a slight dusting of snow above 450 metres from last Sunday. Interestingly, the Clun Forest Hills, some 10 miles south west as the crow flies, had up to 5 cm of lying snow last Sunday. Currently slight rainfall, wet trace on the ground.
  14. My first post on here, Stiperstones, Shropshire Hills at 285 metres and the precipitation just started is.......RAIN.
