  3. we're having an extraordinary night here in basingstoke. normally at nighttime , i cant see to end of my garden - and right now its all light up in this orange glow. there is NO DARKNESS... just a constant twilight. absolutely amazing. maybe its the snow reflecting back to the clouds and the clouds reflecting back in an endless loop that brightens things... but its 9.25pm right now, and we have no darkness outside. been in contact with a mate of mine east of london, and he's taking pictures out in his garden without a flash! WOW!!!
  4. as the sun goes down here in basingstoke, the sky is turning yellow to orange... must be bucketloads of the stuff up there still
  5. if herts is still getting snow, whats the general wind direction? yesterday herts got it first and because the winds were going east to west, i got it later (in hampshire).. is hants due another dump of snow this evening?
  6. 1 in 5 have a snow day (off work..) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11...ID-make-in.html bit of low estimate i think. just heard on radio 4 that even the london ambulance service had command centre telephone operators unable to turn up due to the public transport chaos. no snow in basingstoke now, but the sky is cloudy. too early yet to see if it will turn orange like yesterday.
  7. drive carefully folks - (or at least let people know) - went out mid afternoon in the car, and the roads had a lot of slush on them. with falling evening temps this could easily turn to black ice, especially if more snow arrives. stay safe - and be careful! and if you did manage to make it into work - dont work late. get home now before that slush freezes.
  8. thats the amazing thing about this - the heavier stuff hasnt arrived yet. due this afternoon according to the weather reports! by the way - whats the url for the traffic cams on the m25 - was posted last night in another thread and i forgot to bookmark it. parts of m25 at a standstill according to sky news.
  9. has been snowing non stop this morning here in basingstoke - and thats on top of the 13cm i measured in my garden about 7am. gonna take another measurement in a sec. really heavy falls right now.
  10. put a container out last night in the garden - measured around 13cm of snow this morning. blizzard has broken out now in basingstoke.
  11. sky has turned a bright orange to the south and south-east of me , here in north basingstoke. snow flurry currently starting off. 2nd one this evening.... and judging by sky news weather , this isnt even the main event!
