what are the chances of thundersnow? is that in any of the models, or will this be just straightforward snowfall.

hey folks - apologies - but this isnt weather related. but i thought i'd post about what i was seeing on ABC 33/40 tv , which i was watching this afternoon via the internet.
(via this link: http://www.maroonspoon.com/wx/gustav.html)
they were OVER THE MOON with all the emails they were getting from all over the place - UK, France, Bulgaria, Australia etc...
they really really appreciated it - and i'm sure this forum, with all the links being posted, helped in getting the word out about where to get live streams, such as that tv station.
the appreciation and love and good wishes from across the world was very touching - and by golly did those ABC folks seem overawed by it.
well done netweather.tv - you made some folks happy in what is a terrible situation to be in... and that can only be a good thing.

thanks guys. bush and mcain seem to be getting into the spotlight on this. as yet no sign of obama. maybe he's waiting, but he should from a political perspective be getting his act together fast
ack.. i knew somebody would raise this eventually. look, i'm on the mccain side poliitically, but this is very difficult for obama - if he turned up down there, then it would backfire as taking advantage out of a potential disaster for political ends.
he's doing the right thing by staying out of it and not turning it into a political issue. this affects everyone down there.
he's doing the right thing - and just letting the folks that actually run the government right now to do their jobs.
to be honest - all the politicians in that neck of the woods seem to have put their differences aside and just worked at getting folks the hell out of there and to safety.
the governor of louisiana - bobby jindal is a republican - but the mayor of NO is democrat...
political point scoring over this is not needed. and my reading of it is that all sides recognise this.
APOLOGIES: to the purist weather posters as this post has nothing to do with weather. but you cant avoid the human aspect of this. just thought i'd throw my thoughts into the mix. hope you folks dont mind.

Convection bursting in the Northern eyewall now, overshadowing the eye, I think we may well see the eye try and emerge again.
The thing to note whilst heat content is low the fast foward speed will allow for it not to matter, Felix went over similar heat content at its peak and that didn't stop it...
Shear seems to be easing very quickly off, the system getting symmetric and bursting eyewall is strongly suggestive of a strengthening hurricane, we shall have to wait and see but this is the WORST possible situation for LA and N.O sadly, a system that is strengthening. Wind damage to N.O will be more severe than with Katrina.
is it a reasonable guess that this thing is INCREASING in strength right before landfall?
if thats the case , thats WAY different to katrina - which decreased in strength before hitting land.

if you have a digital box, dont forget that CBS news will be on the sky channel at 12.30
thats channel 82.
back to WIBR-FM online : they are saying that the storms forward momentum is 20MPH . so its increasing in movement speed.
landfall is expected to be literally over baton rouge.
cat 3 expected.
(just retyping what i'm hearing on internet radio)

Someone just asked Louisiana radio if Gustav was going to do a U turn and go back and hit Cuba again :o
just wave those confederate flags, pray a lot and it might happen...
-
looks like they've handled this one well so far - even if its a "busted flush", at least they now have the plans and organisation in place , that actually works. they'll be very well prepared for the next Katrina or even a cat 5.

abc 33/40 blog - they're in the louisiana area , live blogging the storm with a meteorological team reporting.

Gustav is moving very fast.
RGB loop is pretty conclusive with re: speed/direction/eye forming
earlier reports mentioned that it would hit land sometime tommorow - midday local time i think was mentioned.
but based on that image , is it likely that it might hit way sooner? it certainly does look as if its moving at one heck of a rate.
I just got name checked on citadel radio Cool...They're suggesting that about 95% of NO has left. For sure the roads look VERY quiet from houston all the way across to the MS/AL border and NO looks deserted.
how did you get name checked? is there an email address for them.
would like to wish them well and say hello too.
(i was lurking in the thread earlier reading all the comments - fascinating stuff...)

oooh thundersnow...
had some of that in hampshire a few years ago - and it was incredible.
(nightmare for drivers though - it happened so fast that hundreds of folks were stranded..)
