  1. Link for Tides and Currents http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/gmap3/ (sorry if it was already posted) Houston N/West now announcing it is time to evacuate - Talking about houses being destroyed - need to get out soon - rather late in the day I think.....
  2. What does that mean exactly opplevelse for the less educated amongst us?
  3. KPRC 2 NBC Houston KHOU 11 CBS Houston KTRK 13 ABC Houston KRIV 26 Fox Houston 4 in 1 live video coverage Multiple Hurricane News sites at LiveNewsCameras
  4. Hi GW Yes - did you see those who are staying :o in Galveston!!!!!!... jeez dumb or brave, I'm not sure which. If you look at KW's link, I'd be gone, and quickly..... Hoggy
  5. Oddly, They don't seem to be making much of an issue about that on Houston TV - KPRC TV weather fellow just said that Ike's getting ragged to the N/E as it's dragging in dry air, but on that side they expect lots and lots of tornadoes, and that he doesn't expect it exceed a Cat 2 http://www.click2houston.com/video/10903347/index.html EDIT: That's shows the surge fantastically KW - thanks for that
  6. Using that map Iceberg, and given what Kold Weather has just said, how far inland will the storm surge affect - I know some parts of Houston are not supposed to be in the flood plains - but could this storm turn that into nonsense? Hoggy
  7. I'm so surprised that Sky isn't covering this - I have emailed them and told them to check out netweather.tv !!! I mean this is more major than Gustav surely? Given the historical events
  8. Most models now in agreement Looks as though all bets are off - Galveston it is - sigh..... Poor everyone there.. Can only hope that we don't see further development. Good shots Iceberg, hope you're right about it not strengthening....
  9. Cripes things are moving apace. As an aside, was due to renew Insurance for our property in Houston on the 9th Sept - I sent a cheque (or check) to cover, and accidently failed to sign it (honest!) as the check layout is a bit different to ours I somehow missed it between filling out who it was for etc.... needless to say we've sent again via another route, and thank heavens been told we're covered to 24th Sept until latest cheque arrives (hmm.. can I trust that statement????!) I hope it'll turn into a Gustav and not be as bad as things seem at the mo. It's odd as we (on this site, including me) always look with a type of glee or fascination at these events, particularly as they don't affect us, but I remind myself that good friends homes are at stake here, as is our pension fund! Hoggy
  10. Thanks opplevelse - yes that is one of them, though I swear there was an actual Satellite pic loop where you could show points as well. Jan I've friends in both Galveston and Houston (and a property)... my friends tell me they are on alert now and ready to evacuate if required - hopefully it will hit part of a low population area - but we just have to wait and see a bit further down the road.... (sorry for low pop area, but it's the lesser of two nasties).. and of course at a low cat rather than a full blow cat 5
  11. Sorry opplevelse - I meant to say that there used to be a link somewhere off the NHC site that you could view a sat pic and choose to view all forecast points for many of the different models - I just can't remember which site it was. Re Ike's path - I see some are mentioning a trough cutting off its Southern portion... http://www.goes.noaa.gov/GSSLOOPS/wcwv.html
  12. Just noticed this pic from BBC (via storm2k), of the cuba ike interaction - thought it was an astounding pic - there was some pretty serious damage Ike certainly seems to have nothing stopping it now. Does anyone have the link to a site off the NHC re forecast points ? Hoggy
  13. Thanks Gray-Wolf I did notice they were suggesting a lower Cat on arrival (wherever that might be), so keeping my fingers crossed Most of the models seem to be indicating a good westward shift and landing between Corpus Christi and Brownsville at the moment with 910mb being the lowest suggested but most between 960 and 980mb ( http://www.stormpulse.com/fullscreen/current ) Thanks for that explanation too Iceberg
  14. Sorry....Another question about the potential strengthening up to a Cat 5... with all the recent uptake of heat by Hanna and Gustav, I thought this would highly reduce the potential for Ike to strengthen?
  15. Iceberg - Is there any chance that it won't strengthen?? - I've friends and property in Houston and Galveston The friends just mailed me today "the entire Texas Coast is already on alert. The road bulletins are encouraging people to fuel up and prepare to be called to evacuate. However, I hope everyone doesn't leave at once, but rather follows the instructions. Otherwise, we will have another Rita"
  16. I find this an excellent site  - http://www.stormpulse.com/ It's very interactive, giving distances, wind probs, buoys etc and allows you to show all models/tracking, plus compare with historical events.
