  1. Sems the really cold air keps getting put back. Now its next wekend before the fun starts

In the meantime for central and western regions, nothing too much to get excited about

Same old story, how many times have we heard 'the cold keeps getting pushed back' and 'its been put back a few days'. Very frustrating, me thinks this potent cold is just not going to make it right across the UK, just flirting with the east of the country once again.

  2. Hi guys, I don't really ever post much in this thread, just watch and read normally but am a big fan of the cold snowy weather and read with interest what the models may bring next.

I don't really understand it all that well but find it very interesting. Anyway it seems for the past 3 weeks or so that very cold air has just been sitting to the east of us without make that much of an inroad.

This is very frustrating for fans of the cold weather. It seems to me that this cold pool of air is just not going to make it right accross the Uk to full effect so to speak. Can someone explain why it is so rare for really cold air to make it all the way accross the uk from the east and why so many times it just sits just to the east of us and does not make it much further.

What is stoppping this cold air making it all the way here with a very potent spell of cold weather. Is it the atlantic low pressure systems that are blocking it or is it the jet stream position. What setup do we need for this very cold air to make it all the way accross the UK?

    Sorry for rambling on.

  3. Snow was forecast for the West Midlands and guess what; we missed out yet again. No sign of snow all day, just very light rain; very poor forecasting indeed. Why don't people just wake up to the fact that forecasting our weather especially snow is nigh on impossible even a day ahead let alone 5. The Met office just cover there own buts with all the scaremongering of heavy snow; heavy snow my ar*se.

  4. What a wash out last night was. It finally started snowing here in Wolverhampton at around 6.30pm and continued on and off (more on) until about 10.30pm but as the ground as already wet from rain earlier in the day it took a while to settle and it was wet snow anyway.

It did get white over and it looked like a good base for an further snow to accumulate but guess what it all turned to rain and was all washed away by the time I woke and looked out of the window a 8am this morning.

The temp was 0.5'c last night at 10pm and when it started to snow it was around 1.5'c. Temp now is 2'c but feels much colder because of the windchill. If the temp drops like last night then it might start to snow again but it will have no chance to settle as it has been raining here pretty much all day with a temp of around 2.4'c for most of the day. I fear another repeat of last night I'm afraid but this time with less or no snow at all.

  5. Rain here in Wolverhampton for last hour, now turning heavier, temp 2'c. Even if it does snow (which it won't) it will be wet and wouldn't settle on the wet ground anyway. As I said earlier today another Non-Event, just not cold enough and the midlands is not a very favourable location for any decent snow. You have to have the perfect battle of established cold air coming up against wet and milder atlantic air and that happens with the perftect outcome once in a blue moon. That is the the only way we have ever had any decent snow and it is not going to happen at the moment.

  6. Some of the 'write off' comments really annoy me. Its obvious not much will happen to later and as soon as a srop of drizzle falls-its game over. closedeyes.gif

Just wait until the heavier stuff comes through...biggrin.gif

Two words: NONE EVENT. As usual, another over hyped snow non-event for the West Midlands, 6 inches my ar*se. West Midlands always misses out on any decent snow, we are just in the wrong place I'm afraid, just ain't going to happen my friends.

  7. Wow is all I can say, unbelievable. The models, met office, bbc, whoever have got the forecast so badly wrong for the midlands today its untrue. A milder 6'c here to today in Wolverhampton with light rain from 11am onwwards and then this afternoon heavy rain with hail, I was out it in it!. And now at 5.30pm (started at 5:10pm) I have heavy snow and starting to settle on wet ground after only 15min!!!. No way was this forecast for this area today, it was supposed to be dry, sunny and cold. The temp has now dropped to 2'c and falling. Howcome everyone got this so wrong?

  8. Better to overhype it than scarcely mention it and get it wrong!

The BBC/UKMO cannot win with some people it seems. IMO they did a great job; both with where would see snow and also how much. They've been saying since yesterday 2-5cm and up to 10cm on higher ground which was bang on for this area.

    Well done BBC/UKMO!

Well they said the West Mildlands would get 5-10cm, woke up this morning and nothing. Yes it snowed last night and there was a covering when I went to bed around midnight but it had all gone this morning. When we do get snow most of it has gone by the next day as the temp is always above freezing and even if just above zero it still melts. Proper cold is when the temp stays below freezing all day and that has not happened for any significant length of time, i.e. more than a couple of days for a very long time in the midlands. I just don't think it has been all that cold and all we have had here in Wolverhampton is a couple of inches which came down on Monday 2nd Feb. Maybe one or two more light coverings last week but did not add to the cover. The West Midlands never sees that much snow, too sheltered. Very disappointing after being promised so much by the media and met office.
