  1. That's a fair comment Yeti. In the main the high ground of the Pennines, Wolds, N York Moors have done OK - ish, but not that many live there! In the east particularly it has been very poor, and that's really the coastal areas and you can include Norfolk right up to the NE. Some of these coastal areas also did not do well for the January cold. The cold spells we have had have all been marginal and there hasn't really been deep cold air involved, hence the slight warmth of the N sea has had a massive impact. If it was really cold - well, we can all dream..................
  2. ...and here as well a little to the North of you. Fairly heavy now so nice and white outside, and lovely dry snow as well.
  3. Just started snowing here, hopefully more showers to come. Good luck to you guys in Hull and Grimsby!!!!
  4. Hi gobby! The Driffield area received a lot less from the showers Sun night and Monday for some reason. I live 6 miles N of Driff in the Wolds and I was surprised how relatively little we got compared to other areas. The heavy rain Mon night washed all the snow away from Driff, but if you head into the Wolds, although it was rain affected, it hasn't thawed since then. Take a look at the webcam at http://www.eastyorkshire.co.uk/eddsfield/ and click on the weather trends tab top left for weather stats and camera. This is on top the hill above Langtoft. Still thick on the Northern side of the Wolds especially.
  5. Paul Hudsons forecast was not good for E Yorks, Lincs. Maybe snow initially, mainly to the South, rain on the coast and most of it to turn back to rain, except highest ground on the Wolds. Second time in a few days that E Yorks gets the rain! Is there a theme developing? Still snow cover here though, currently -2.3c.
  6. Don't bank on it. It's raining here. Don't know how far inland this warmer air will get as I wasn't expecting it here yet.
  7. It's turned to rain here as well in the last half hour, 10 miles from the coast. TEITS - you were wrong!!!!!!!! Now 0.9c DP -0.4, so a bit surprising.
  8. TEITS the coast is 9.75 miles to the SE and 9.75 to the NE, Flamborough adds a few miles to that to the East. Is your 10 miles exact?? Only kidding! Bit of a disappointment so far in the Wolds, was expecting a lot more overnight.
  9. Have also noticed temps falling back. Now 1.3C at Eddsfield I mile up the hill from me. (I'm in York currently). http://www.eastyorkshire.co.uk/eddsfield/ click on weather trends.
  10. Well about 30 miles due North of you it's a different story. I do accept you have a point, as in the recent high pressure cold spell, this wasn't the best place to be as we were constantly under leaden skies with a breeze off the relatively warm North Sea. However, they did clear briefly at times, giving us a good number of frosts, but not really cold nights. You didn't have to go much further inland to notice a bigger difference. We are 10 miles inland, incidentally. Since November we have had 40 air frosts, 8 November, 18 December and 14 January, though the mean min for Dec was 0.0, even with air frost on more than half the nights. This month with 14 out of 24, the mean is -0.0 currently. (Actually, it's -0.6 currently)! As for snow, loads of it and 16 (or 17?) 0900 covers since November, including a 20cm fall. Again, location is key and though not at a great elevation, it's enough to make a difference, as is proximity to the coast, but this time for the right reasons. We're also in Wolds valley, which helps the frost. So it's been fairly frosty, but not cold! Bring back the Northerlies, these Westerlies gave some snow this week, but we're not high enough for accumulation.
  11. Change in the weather here yesterday afternoon, when from 1500 there has been a gradual rise in the temperature from 2.5 to 4.6 by early afternoon today. Totally overcast throughout, with some light showers from late morning, but some sharp showers this afternoon, though nothing at all on the radar. Temp now falling back to 2.9 and DP 1.5 with surprising sleet currently.

  13. I wouldn't agree that Leeds is the coldest English City. Bradford and Sheffield are both higher and snowier than Leeds. It depends where you take the recording from eg is is fair to use Leeds/Bradford airport for Leeds? I don't think so. Bradord or Sheffield for me.
  14. Sunny, but showery! Light showers throughout yesterday evening and all night. Snow at first, then sleet, now rain. Temp 3.5, min 1.3. A lot of snow still. 5th consecutive day with cover, 9th since end of Nov. I'm not sure if you can call it snow really, there's about 4/5cm of solid ice on the lawn.
  15. Can't answer you properly either, but the lowest I've recorded without snow cover was -10c in Penistone 1996 ish.
  16. And just a few miles up the road from you. Snow all day, depth 15cm+, max 1.1c at 0130, max during daylight 0.3c, currently -1.4, snow stopped at last.
  17. Here in theWolds just South of the A64 it's been a very snowy day. Persistent heavy showers with drifting snow on the tops and drifts of 2 feet in places. Depth up to 15cm here, but showers less persistent late this afternoon. Roads have been very poor all day, had a trip to York this morning, with little or no snow 5 miles to the West and road conditions in and out of the village very bad this afternoon.
  18. Well at least the wind direction changed eventually. Snow showers here since 0210, some quite heavy with an increasing and very gusty wind. Around 2cm here, temp -0.5c.
  19. I'm currently in Sheffield , but the weather station near home is reporting a sleet shower (camera also on site), see http://www.eastyorkshire.co.uk/eddsfield/ temp 2.2c. Also report on the radio of snow falling at Malton, fairly close to Eddsfield.
