Happy christmas everyone. Hope ye all enjoyed this cold spell up north. We had no snow as usual but we might get some frontal snow next week during the next cold snap.

Still depressingly warm in kerry. Not a cloud around. A non-event again. The 9 year wait for snow continues
-
yes the west, the south west and north west will get the most frquent snow showers from tonight till monday.
snowing heavier now.
I hope so storm 10. Last snow here was 26th dec 2000

0.9c and falling, dew point of 0.1c. its overcast but no moisture falling. i would preferthe skies to clear for a while and let temps plummet, and then for the snow showers to push in, so they would have a great chance of settling. thats just me being fussy. i think they would settle regardless as the ground temps are quite cold now, and it would take only one heavy snow shower for it to settle.
Still have temps of 7c in the far south. I dont think any potent showers will make it this far. Did they say something on the RTE forecast about coastal showers along the west (and SW ) coast? I hope so

How do you rate our chances in the far south January Snowstorm? I think that we are just too far South and west to be affected by any showers from an easterly or notherly. What are the chances of showers from the warmish atlantic or a trough forming?
-
Synoptics looks good, however i am quite concerned at poor depth of cold that does arrive, 850hpa temps of -6 to -8c dont necessarily = snow.
So am I. Precip will never make it to the west either i reckon. Any chance of anything from the atlantic i wonder?

Stunning set of 18z ensembles, even at T+120 with the HP cell cut off to our immediate north, ridging Northwest.
First set of ensembles on which the mean also reaches -8 in Dublin, indicating increasing continuity for the westward progression of deep cold air...
It's hard to believe what we are seeing really as if this verifies, many parts of the country could well experience significant disruption...
About 100miles further west will do nicely. Then maybe a low nudging up against a NE'ly flow creating a battleground situation

Im going over to Leeds next week. Should be fun trying to come back to Eire on the 18th if these charts come off!
-
Initially yes it is timistry as Eire will be under more of an influence from the HP cell.
However, the latter stages of the ECMWF 12Z evolution present opportunities for significant snowfall across Ireland also.
With any northeasterly flow: Eastern, Northeastern & Southeastern parts of Ireland are most prone to snowfall.
HOWEVER, you have a significant chance of frontal snowfall if a depression were to approach from the SW against very cold air already in place - this can give western and southwestern areas quite significant falls of snow & did so during some of the classic cold spells of the past.
Thanks for the clarification snowaddict. Im from kerry so the SW frontal situation would be ideal. Snow would stream down from the mountains.

Towers trying their best to develop to the north of leeds
-
Moderate snowfall here and lying.
Where abouts in Leeds are you? I can see some precip in the inner ring road lights but it looks like very light snow at best?
-
Are we noticing the band of precip over Brittany? It is supposed to hit the Midlands tonight, traveling NE... but it's currently traveling due NNE, and is much further W on the radar than progged
It that why the met office has updated its weather alerts for the North?

Light Snow too in Leeds
-
Heavy snow in Leeds now too. What the hell just happened?
-
Its intensifying still in Leeds. Small flakes now instead of rain
-
Very frustrating waiting for the snow to get heavier
Snowing quite lightly now which is steadily accumulating, even on the roads. If it was to get heavier the real fun would begin as the current snowfall is having no problems settling on the roads..
tell me about it. Its soo light its almost like graupel. IF been proper snowflakes over the last few hours, we would be buried by now
-
Its be continuous in Leeds for about 4 hours now but its very light, almost like graupal so id say 4 hours worth has added an extra 2 cm max. Bit dissapointing really. Is this because its not cold enough or not intense enough?
-
The front is only an hour or less away! There is alot of cloud on the radar. Should give prolonged heavy snow
-
Nooo the sun is out in Leeds. go away!!!
-
Nice heavy snow shower in leeds now
-
Sky News suggested that the low will track northwards and cause heavy snow in the north after dark
-
Ah Leeds has been dry now for a few hours. The sky is darking now and the radar suggests more on the way. Come on!!!!

We are relatively tropical down here in Kerry. Have had no severe frost in 5 days and have no ice on the roads. Raining now, wayyyy too warm for snow at the moment. Hopefully when the cold easterly kicks in, it will negate the warming effect of the sea
