I like it because it's generally quiet as it's a fair walk up. Good choice of 'runs' and a solid fence of Dad fails to stop it
I’ll need to try it out. Another good run for the younger kids is down on the lower slopes at the Herriot Watt campus in the secret garden. We had a good afternoon there on New Year’s Day.
Radar still looking good.

I wasn't planning a sledging session tomorrow but it's game on now! What an end to a really decent couple of weeks here!
Yes it has been really decent without any huge falls, just lots of frequent top-ups with the cold never leaving. Reminds me a bit of winters growing up in the late 70’s to mid 80’s when the snow or ice never seemed to really depart before it turned much colder again with further snowfalls.
Oh for an old fashioned winter again....

Still coming down here! Probably as heavy as it's been this evening!
Yeah the snow seems to have intensified after crossing the Forth.
That 18z model run was crazy with widespread 50-60cm snow depths across Scotland.
We’re going to need a bigger piste basher for the resort!

I can confirm that it’s lovely and snowy at the western side of resort 101 too.

Good luck for tonight through to the morning - Pentland Hills will look even more glorious tomorrow with another fluffy new white coat added to its already deep snow cover.
I’m going to have to check my height above sea level again, I’m sure I’ve done myself out of a few metres.
I visited the higher slopes of the 101 resort yesterday and Threipmuir reservoir looked about ready for a curling match.

Happy new year everyone.
Nice to wake up to snow falling. Perfect top up for the sledging runs which had turned hard and icy.

I love reading the model thread but when a cold spell begins this is definitely the place to be. Great posts and pics regarding local conditions and I really appreciate the 24-48 hour detailed outlooks from @LomondSnowstorm @Kirkcaldy Weather@Mr Frost
keep up the good work guys.

Yeah, just need to see this sleety rain to clear without doing too much damage to the snow cover and a freeze tonight, hopefully. My kids have been sledging every day since Tuesday and it would be a shame if that came to an end. They are even out just now in the damp conditions which is pretty hard core and wouldn’t be me.

Good sign for out this way then as ppn still to arrive. However, the radar looks like Edinburgh could struggle getting any meaningful ppn! All the heavier stuff seems to be pushing out west of here! With any luck we can avoid the bulk of the rain which will inevitably arrive at some point.
To @Mr Frost's point - the Met haven't covered themselves in glory this week.
Yeah, would rather miss it if it’s going to turn to rain anyway and might keep the current snow cover relatively intact.

I used to sledge at Barberton when I was a kid. Nowadays we go to the hill between Currievale and Currie castle drive as it’s a two minute walk.

Overall pretty happy with that admit I wrote it off a bit quick earlier (I’m not patient when it comes to snow ) lovely seeing the snow pics and again shows that the really low 850 temps aren’t always needed for some snowy surprises.
Good work, keep these forecasts coming.

Lovely snow fall with a bit more to come according to the radar.
The kids might be able to get their sledges out tomorrow if it continues like this for a bit longer.

Yes, decent wee snow shower has made it look very festive in the space of about 5 mins.
