Any chance this band of snow now will move over scunny. Only had the odd flake blowing in the breeze
You have had more than here mate lol. I think it is pretty unlikely the band will move further east unfortunatly. Better luck tomorrow and over the weekend hopefully.
-
The same here seems to be just west of me. not moved east on radar at all much. Hope tomorrow the snow gets further east.
I am sure it will, todays snow in the west was from a very weak feature that developed, tomorrows snow is coming from a much more active front. How far east is gets is open to debate but both ITV and BBC have the snow covering our entire region by tomorrow evening. I also believe due to the strength of the SE wind snow showers could easily develop over the North Sea and spread quite far in land too.
-
This was a shock for the region wasn't it. It looks like you guys in the west will get a decent covering this evening. I have checked the radar and the front seems to have stalled, I can't see it moving towards the coast if im being honest but the met forecast mentions snow becoming confined to the coast tonight so who knows,
-
Considering I live 3-4 miles from the North sea I think this mornings -8 was pretty impressive. Just a mile further up the road on the way to work the car temperature dropped to -10. Had no snow melt at all today as temperature has hovered between -3 and -2 al day. Already down to -6 now so I wonder how cold tonight will get?
-
Snowing again, laying nicely on the road too which had turned really icy before the shower. Nasty driving in the morning!
Nice one, I think we have had our last shower for a good while now looking at the radar. The areas that had cleared today have a good 2cm covering now, I imagine it will be the same for you now. Looks like we may get some heavy snow showers on Friday if the GFS is to be believed.
-
Looks like Grimsby could be in for a good shower soon
I've been watching that for an hour lol
-
Looks like there are still some beefy snow showers heading in from the North Sea, if there anything like the last one we had then another cm or 2 could be possible. For those who missed Paul Hudson's forecast here it is
-
And to add this is Friday's upper air temp, shows why parts miss out on the snow (the oranges is the mild sector).
Looking at tonight run how far west does the warm sector reach across the UK or is that the extent as things currently stand? Thanks GSL
-
A minor thaw here today with nearly the main roads now 80% clear, fields still covered as are most pavements. We have just had a very heavy snow shower that lasted around 20 minutes, must have put down a cm, all areas now white again. If models are correct then areas further west might get their share later this week
-
Heavy snow shower here in Grimsby, lasted about half an hour. Temperatures hovering around 0.5-0.8 so nothing frozen solid yet.
-
Steady light snow here in Grimsby. Very slight thaw of snow but telephone wires still covered which is usually the first place to loose snow if thawing quickly. Temp around 0.4 so no freezing at moment.
-
Very impressive fall here in Grimsby. All the main roads are under and inch or two of snow. Must be around 10cm on the grass with around 7cm on the paths etc. Current temperature is 0 with dew of 0 so that should help stop any melt. Really can't see how this band will last another few hours though
-
A cm of snow cover here in Grimsbym nothing to exciting yet but nice to see non the less. Met office seem quite bullish about later on so we will see.
-
Very light snow here in Grimsby...its a start and looking forward to tomorrows fun and games.
Anyone else's raintoday playing up ppn keep coming and going.
small grains in Louth.
Yep, its happening to mine too. Annoying isn't it.
-
nothing down here, not really expecting it, i do feel this will become a rain/sleet event
This might cheer you up Sparky!

Ok. Couldn't help myself. Checked latest - forecast much as before, but snow warnings in NE.Eng (Lincs to Northumberland) now AMBER tomorrow
-
Annoying that T120 is no longer reliable timeframe, a truly astounding run. Normally I'd say 120 is fairly reliable but at the moment its a complete split and dozens of sypnotic evolutions are being thrown about! Let's hope this evenings ECM goes with the UKMO for the undercut.
With regards to the 144 chart I know its not likely to happen but surely that's a northern event with rain further south or is there cold air wrapped around it? Difficult to tell
One thing I would say as well about the GFS is it keeps pushing back the date when the cold air vacates. Good sign?
To help some of our new members understand the significance of the 12z from the GFS I think it is important to note that what the GFS or any other models are currently showing passed 96hrs is liable for quite SIGNIFICANT changes. The GFS looks very ugly at around the 240hr mark, but lets be honest what are the chances that it will remain like that in future runs when eaven charts 2/3 days out are changing? GP mentioned the other day that the full effects of the SSW haven't kicked in yet so who knows how charts will look 10-14 days in the future.

Interesting finger of snow showers coming off the north sea and heading southwest should be passing right over you grimsby snow lover any time soon..
Ive spotted that mate, just slightly concerned by conditions here as temp is around 2-3 degress with a dew of 2.
-
Is that area of precipitation not the first weaker one that was hit or miss anyhow or is that the front that is to get us Monday?
I think thats the weaker one mate, I do hope so anyway. I just wish our temperatures will lower before the front hits.
-
Does anyone know why the dew temps and humidity are higher around these pasrts than any other part of the region. Other areas near the coast have much lower humidity/dews than here. Thanks GSL
-
south yorkshire is covered by the -8 hpa uppers dp 0c and 2mt temps of 3/4c but i would guess 2 bein nearer the mark.
Sorry to be a pain lol, what are the conditions like around here regarding hpa uppers etc. Thanks
-
hows south Yorkshire temps and that doing, I only got car thermometer and that's no good lol
This website is very useful and should help you with your local temperatures etc.
-
Looks good. Currently very sunny but temperature starting to drop away already. Dew points are fine also - I always check XC weather for that. I'm very hopeful I have to say that the majority of Yorkshire is in the sweet spot for both these bands. The first I suspect may stall a tad and allow the 2nd to catch up. The gap between the 2 has been shortening progressively on the models. 10cm would be just fine come Monday teatime.
Ours continues to rise!!! Getting quite concerned now. Dews are pushing 3 degrees according to local weather station (it is is the town centre though)

Just out of interest when should our current temperatures start to decline?

Sunday 13th January
YELLOW WARNING for SNOW for England.
An area of sleet and snow will come eastwards across England during the early morning, probably becoming light and patchy later in the morning as it slows down over eastern areas. However, later in the day it is expected to intensify again, at the same time turning back to rain in places. Through the day there is the risk of 5 cm accumulations in places, and more than that above 200 m. However, there is greater than average uncertainty at this range, especially in the extent to which snow affects southern counties, and it is quite possible that the Alert will be upgraded to an amber Warning if confidence increases.
The public are advised to monitor the forecast and to be aware of the risk of disruption to travel.
Valid 0005 to 2355 Monday.
Sunday 13th January
YELLOW WARNING for SNOW for northeast England, southeast England, East Anglia and eastern Scotland.
Showery outbreaks of snow will affect parts of the east on Tuesday, in some places adding a few cm to existing accumulations. Over Scotland and northern England showers will often fall as rain near coasts. Over East Anglia and southeast England, conditions will improve markedly by afternoon. Ice will also be a hazard in these areas.
The public are advised to be aware of the risk of disruption to transport.
Valid 0005 to 2355 Tuesday.
Not overly keen on that statement about showers falling as rain near coasts in northern england on Tuesday, I wonder if we are classed as northern england or eastern england?
Having seen a truely amazing bbc forecast for cold and snow for this week perhaps things could be better than first thought

You are probably right mate as apart from Tuesday, snow showers have been very hit and miss and most have stayed out at sea. I did watch Calendar weather though and he said snower showers throughout the whole weekend, Paul Hudson just mentioned snow fluffies. I think the radar might be more useful as has been the case for you guys in Yorkshire this evening.
