Since I have owned dogs (4 yrs), when walking in my local park end of Nov 2010 and 2011, the squirrels have become more active just prior to onset of very cold weather, however this year so far they have not been doing so, I hope this is not an omen for the weather as I love ice, snow, cold and its bad news for my hounds as they love to chase the pesky things!

Can't wait for the snow and credit to the netweather forecasters who predicted the cold weather back in November. Still miss the Joe Bas tardi reports though as they were always bang on!.

Here in Ipswich we have had less than 2mm of rain since March 1 and it looks like we will miss the current storm activity that is passing us by a few miles to the west.

I was in Felixstowe about 2 hours ago, there was heavy wet snow. Did'nt last long enough to settle though, only a bit on car windscreens.

I was walking my dogs last night about 2000h when that bizzard hit the east coast of Suffolk. I was about 10 miles northeast of Ipswich when there was an amazing flash of lightning that lit up the entire eastern sky, followed by horizontal heavy snow and visability down to about 5ft. The snow fell until about 2230 and deposited between 4-5". The weather reporter was on BBC radio last night and said that to get thunder snow, the clouds need to be about 15000ft upwards in elevation. Many tree branches cracking and falling last night due to the weight of snow on them. Maximum temp at Wattisham at 1200h today -3 deg. Currently heavy snow falling.

When I was on holiday in Canary Islands couple of years ago, the scirroco kicked in and it was like standing in front of a hair dryer, the temp did'nt drop BELOW 40 deg C at night. Was about 46 deg C in shade during the day. Thats hot. Was amazing to experience though.

It could be said those of us who live in the far east don't see much percipitation in our part of the country full stop. Be it rain or snow. Maybe thats got something to do with why we missed all the snow last week. Whenever I have travelled west and encountered rain, the intesity is almost always something we do not get over here. It really is a different climate here to elsewhere. Much the same can be said of the Canary Islands, they have a sub-tropical climate at the south of the Island and almost alpine at the top, and the distance between them is some 50 miles. Quite bizarre.

What Clarkson said about our PM, relates to those in local government regarding the lack of salt. Whoever is responsible for buying stock in any council who's running low in supplies really should be asked if he/she is capable of doing the job. If I screw up in my job (private sector) I'd get a talking to or worse. Having said that volume of traffic is greater now than it was back in '91, so I would imagine that has something to do with why certain roads ground to a halt.

LOts of clouds and convection kicking off here in Ipswich now. And I have a feeling a big swathe of the country is going to turn red on meto.
Cool, think I'll be taking Golden Hound over Christchurch Park shortly. If ya see a Husky running around in the snow, It's Duke lol.

Looking at the NW radar, precip is clipping north norfolk and south norfolk/north suffolk, Typical good old Norwich is slap bang in the middle of a dry bit! How!

Over here in the east we have missed the heavy rain, parts of Essex did but not Suffolk, it's a case of floods, what floods, we are the driest part of the UK, this time no exception.
