  1. It will be interesting between 6-11am for much of Devon and Cornwall. Even the bbc are now suggesting we will wake to snow showers.
  2. Plymouth has wrapped up in its warming invisibility cloak for the night... I kid you not, its 4.1 oC; 5 miles further in land, with similar asl, its -1oC. I do laugh that i love snow, but live in possibly the worst place in the UK to ever see it. (Although there was a slight shower this morning!)
  3. As it happens, I just drove from plymouth to ivybridge and back. Temp was 3.5 in plymouth, dropped to -1oc in ivybridge, and then back to 2.5 oc when i returned. A difference of around 4oc, suprised me actually. To warm for snow in plymouth at the moment. Paul
  4. There will be a very slightly milder air flow coming in with the showers. (upper temps 1 or 2 oC higher). Plymouth is circa 4oc currently and falling away fairly rapidly - but i would still guess that the temp will be around 1.7-2.5 when the showers roll in.
  5. There will be lots of showers over Devon and Cornwall from 8/9pm this evening; the question will be temperature. I would think that above 250-300 meters there could be a fair sprinkling. Below that level i would expect it to be slightly too mild....CLICKY
  6. LOL you must be in east plymouth.... still waiting in greenbank....
  7. Im sat in plymouth, looking out the window waiting for it to snow any second...(see radar). snow in the day in plymouth....very rare, i will believe it when i see it...
  8. I think that snow should be on the cards for saturday, after 6pm. Should see a light covering in the south west. The charts are hinting, more and more, at a set up that brought some decent snowfall on 13th-14th dec 1981...see below; Clicky for dec 14th 1981 Clicky for gfs +90 (sunday morning) Its funny that the were 3 fairly big snow events in Glous in 1981, when 500hpa were touching -5. After Thurs evening we shall be settling in at -6 to -10 uppers, but snow still seems very marginal.
  9. Looking at the radar pattern we are looking at 6hours of precepition over devon. Over dartmoor, for example, this could easily yield 40mm = 30cm+ of snow. The temps will drop again from 00:00 through to 09:00am, as the northerly starts to have more of an influence, so i would expect even marginal places, whom have rain currently, to turn to snow at around 2-3am. The most amazing fact i guess is that the gfs has the heaviest precipitation at 3am...that would be interesting. All possible by the front now sitting over the south west, and then heading North East while always maining cover over Devon. Quality scenario. Even Plymouth may get 2 flakes later; Currently 2.4oc and pure, watery rain. lovely.
  10. Is someone having a laugh here? boscastle, cornwall = 1.0c sleet, Exeter and paignton, devon, level with plymouth, on the south coast = snow....plymouth 3oc and heavy rain. I am honestly at a loss on this one
  11. With regard to the Tavi / paignton / plymouth people; The radar is now looking better than expected, the precipitation over north cornwall and South Wales is further south than forecast. At 7.30pm i had all but given up, but at around midnight we will have some showers, leading to potentially a decent fall up to 9am. We will see, it will be a matter of hit and miss for some areas. Cheers, Paul
  12. As i live in Plymouth, 190ft asl its really all about timings. Between midnight and 9am, Plymouth may get snow. Where as the rest of the country will be looking at the rain/radar charts over Monday and Tuesday, the first one I always check is the temperature. Realisically to get below 1oc in Plymouth, with cloud is very rare. This would maybe would happen just once or twice in an average winter. My genuine guess would be sleet for Plymouth, and Snow 400+ ft asl. Quantities; if temperatures around 2-3oc = 8-10mm of rain, if it will be cold enough for snow, we will get 5cm of snow. You cant honestly believe how many times i have witnessed very heavy rain at 2 to 3oc in Plymouth. Its a bit of a joke really! However, I actually work a few miles further in land, at 540ft asl, so i am actually looking forward to going to work on monday and tuesday!
  13. Hi All, 3.6oc. Cold air coming over as we speak will linger, so fairly low temps should be expected. Cheers, Paul
