I expect it will start to pep up soon. From my brief viewing of the radar it seems that way. -

First post in the London thread before, as i'm from Birmingham. However, I'm staying in Heathrow as working here, snow has just picked up intensity and is now heavy with decent size flakes! -

I must admit I'm pleased that the regional threads are staying, although I don't tend to post, always interesting to have people from within your area to discuss things with -

MidlandsSean replied to Methuselah's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
It seems that I have a rather heavy fall of snow, rather big flakes so I'm quite pleased with that however NW Radar does show it not lasting too long, however I wasn't expecting it to reach this far inland till tomorrow so yeah, nice surprise! -

I think they meant that the radar goes by what the GFS says in regards to whether the precipitation is sleet/snow/rain. For example if the GFS is showing that snow will be the case in that area. Then any precipitation going into that location will be shown as snow on the radar. I'm not sure but thats the impression I got.. -

Tuesday everyone could have easily went in. But that was because the closures were announced on monday evening because met office had predicted it. With regards to other days, I'm not sure, I think it was quite dangerous out so I can understand the closures. We aren't canada or any other snowy place. It doesn't occur often and we deal with it differently. Still only drizzle here in Birmingham. I am not expecting snow this early but I was expecting some heavy rain. -

That is a case that you can blame the metoffice for! Solihull council did explain their decision though (http://www.solihull.gov.uk/news/18650.htm) We was however predicted some significant snow, and didn't receive it. This is why i'm still hasty with tonights event, but at the same token the metoffice aren't always going to be perfect, forecasting isn't the simplest of things at times. Just seen the weather with Rob again. Central Wales and West Midlands were specifically mentioned with the potential of 10 - 15cm's -

In my opinion it's more sensible for the councils to do blanket closures simply because they know how their local roads are because they will have received reports. When it is left to the schools decision, headteachers aren't really able to comment on the roads and how safe it is. Although thursday on Solihull made a blanket closure. Last night I was expecting it to be a heavy rain event tonight. I'm having more hope today but i'm not sure how optimistic to be. -

Just watched BBC Weather on News 24 with Rob McElwee. Charts suggested snow at 4pm in Birmingham from what I could see. -

I must say about the BBC are usually pretty good for predicting snow/rain events. By this I mean, if any precipitation will be rain or not. It seems that its just the track of the precipitation they have bigger issues with. This is just the perception I get from it and I am not saying its definate. However I do personally feel tomorrow will be heavy rain. But we all know how things can change, we know how models can change. I just feel that tomorrow has the potential and it could happen. I'd love to know what the BBC/Meto have that we can't see though! -
I think you read it wrong, i'm not sure but I read it as while 10-20 cms is likely in parts of Wales (and higher ground in southeast Ireland), and across the Midlands especially south of B'ham to Lincoln with Midlands being included in that section. But I did actually check it twice because I wasn't sure Midlands was included in the 2 - 5 or 10 - 20

Sounds like it could be interesting.. :o Still nothing falling despite the radar showing otherwise, changed of getting up to 4.00am because i've lost half hour expecting something. Does this have more potential that last night? well the possibility? -

Honestly, if anyone knew for sure they would tell you. But no one knows how far north this will go. Me personally, I dont think the big stuff will make it to birmingham so I don't think stoke looks hopeful.. I could be wrong cos like I said. No one knows! -

It is going to be a short lived event? Because the netweather has snow from 6 - 12am tomorrow here in Birmingham? Although I know they can be wrong but its based on the GFS.. and it seems the radar is showing it to be like the GFS forecast at the moment.. -

Haha. I didn't realise that until you mentioned it but it sure made me laugh. I think we've all learn't that anything can happen. It seems from what I remember (correct me if i'm wrong) the last few GFS runs have been showing it being further west with each run. Whether this means anything or than better outlook for us then I dont know.. I might be wrong on that but thats from what I can generally remember -

Also can see fairly moderate snow fall with some fair sized flakes. I expected it to have moved on from my area by now cos the radar showed the heaviest passing but its seems to gave got more intense.. -
Snow Watch Thread For Midlands & C Southern England

Yeah I must admit some people are doing absolutely brilliant. Sharing information and their personal opinions, to name a few Andy obviously. (I'd also like to thank Shaun for replying to my post) Seems to be an exciting few hours. I think I will be getting up very early. According to a post on another forum (which they said was mentioned in central news) Birmingham Councils are meeting at 6am to discuss school closures. Probably a bit hasty after what happened with the event tuesday (which actually gave me snowfall till about 11pm..) and waiting for visible evidence. -

I believe it will snow quite heavily for us in the west midlands. I'm just dissapointed that it will become sleet in the late morning/afternoon (or whatever time it is) I guess it would be unusual for a perfect event haha
