  1. Around the Croydon area it is fairly calm and hardly any wind. The rain is relentless though.
Hopefully I’ll hear from my family down near Eastbourne soon.

if this had tracked further North, I feel we’d have had an 87. The nearest of misses (aside the coasts!)

  2. Did a longer walk around the area today to see what damage had been done. Thankfully not much. No trees but a number of large branches and a few fences.
For someone with a fascination for extreme weather, I sure picked an odd location to live in. Fairly low ground and sheltered. Similar to when there’s marginal snow, just a short stroll up the road, made a noticeable difference.

The wind must be in a slightly different direction as the bigger gusts are much noisier than or Friday, despite being less strong.

on a side note, I’ve muted my family WhatsApp as I can’t keep explaining why 87 wasn’t a hurricane and why other factors (lack of warning, middle of the night, time of year) made it so unusual. Ha!

Noticed Southern Trains are now advising not travelling tomorrow and have a 50mph limit on trains that do run.

  3. Although I didn’t get much accumulation here, we have managed to keep some snow cover for 8 days. That’s pretty impressive by any standards. I think I’d have to go back to Dec 10 to match it.

As a whole this winter has been significantly better. Much more seasonal with plenty of frosts and colder days. The only thing I’ve missed here is significant snow fall but how many times in the last 40 years has my area had a foot of snow? I don’t think it’s as many as I try to believe! 87, 91 and 10 are 3 I’m confident on but maybe there were others?

Given the trend over recent years to have a cold spell in March, I’d not rule out us seeing more snow before we start focusing on heatwaves and thunderstorms!

Geography can be crucial with streamers. Any significant hills (let alone mountains) and its the end.

Hopefully this streamer provides something of note for both of us. Fingers crossed.

I’ve experienced that when I lived in Oxted at the foot of Botley Hill. I left for work and it was clear and sunny. Train went through the tunnel and we exited into Narnia! I had no idea a streamer was effecting London as the hill stopped it from progressing to where I lived

  5. Morning!
Moderate light snow here. Still not what I’d class as heavy (I judge this by visibility)

Hard to tell the depths due to it blowing about and being fussy over where it wanted to settle! solid covering though but nowhere near the level of the previous “Beast”

Best of all is that we’ve had snow falling for 3 days with sub zero temps. Last year I barely saw a snowflake so this restores my faith in the Snow Gods

  6. Glitter falling here. Snowed a good majority of the day but always light so accumulation was hardly noticeable.

One thing I’ve learnt over all the years is the best snow is generally not forecast. In 2010 I was expecting a few cms. I was annoyed when it started as heavy snizzle but out of nowhere it went nuts! Convection kicked in over us and I ended up with about a foot of snow that night (and very little sleep!)

Not saying that will happen again but you just never know in these set ups

  7. Hey All, not posted here for such a long time. I tend to stick to live snow reports. Guess that shows how terrible it’s been the past couple of years.

We had a brief flurry on New Years Day but I’m starting to get concerned that it’s getting harder each passing year to get any kind of laying snow. March 18 was the last time and I don’t regard that as significant snow depths.
Let’s hope I’m wrong and we get another shot down the line. Until Europe gets much colder though we are going to struggle

  8. Reminds me very much of the 90’s (after 91’s great spell) where there was always so much promise but constantly failed to really deliver in my area. Just having the media and TV forecasts to rely on made it so much more frustrating - I used to sit on teletext waiting for the pixilated weather map to update

As others have said, we should probably change our thoughts of March as it has proven that in the right set up, it can deliver decent cold and snow. I also think that at some point the models will flip to our favour and surprise us by showing milder to sudden cold. One day

Am I the only one who never looks at the radar during snow? It’s like looking at spoilers, I’m much happier to look out the window and see what turns up than get frustrated seeing heavy snow missing me

    (rain again here)
