  1. Ahh right I thought it was a bit progressive myself... Cheers
  2. That's looking better than I expected. It seems to show that the Pennines won't completely take the sting out of the showers which is good news. Looks like 'Nowcasting' will be key in this case
  3. True, they've shown this last night and throughout the day, it's just a shame that they nearly all dissipate over the Pennines and those that do get over are shadows of their former selves. Anyway It's good news that some showers are making progress though...
  4. The breakdown will come at some time. GP has talked about the last third of January signalling a return to less cold conditions. However for the next 6-7 days we've got cold to very cold conditions to enjoy. An additional point that could be taken into consideration is that the models have been known to shift cold spells too quickly IMO. I've found often they last longer than is progged as they try and shift Blocks with 'overblown' lows in the Atlantic. It will end though... Anyway back to the North-West... We've had a couple of light showers this morning but the rest of the day was cold, crisp and sunny. School was off today as well for me, however it's on tomorrow, as the school has somehow found some grit from somewhere... It doesn't look like the region will be seeing any more significant snow until Sunday, however with the unpredictable nature of this cold spell so far, it wouldn't surprise me if other event(s) crop up before then. C.L.
  5. Well it looks like some form of shower has made it over, there are reports of snow in Holme now. C.L.
  6. Hmmm that does appear to be the broad opinion, thanks for your reply. I'll keep monitoring it just in case they get inland. Either way we will have some cold crisp weather to enjoy at some point in the next couple of days. As the snow freezes over ice will make things even more awkward for many. C.L.
  7. Everyone south of me seems to have received a great dumping in the North West. I've had reports of 7 inches in Gatley and 8 inches in Poynton. Preston, Blackpool and the Fylde Coast have had a good amount I've heard as well. Here we had about and inch and a bit, however I'm pleased still pleased with this :o This has probably been asked countless times, but does anyone have any idea how far West the precipitation in the North Sea and the North-East will get, it does look very potent, I'm just not sure how much energy it has or whether it will skirt East having looked at the Met office radar. C.L.
  8. Happy to hear about everyones's snow. Stopped here about 45 minutes ago and blue sky beginning to poke through. The cloud that we had, which is now to the south, looks seriously dark. IMBY the attention has switched to the showers over the north sea and the band currently passing through central and Eastern Scotland perhaps we'll see some more out of that. C.L.
  9. Woke up to a cm cover this morning. Went into school. Hasn't stopped for 3 hours steady snow, my school shut, all schools cancelled in the area bar one. Now around an inch to an inch and a half. Roads treacherous, now the wind has picked up. I certainly won't be forgetting this winter any time soon. C.L.
  10. Got moderate/Light snow here now. Edit: Ruddy Nora it's gone heavy now - strange, Good news for the many inland of me though C.L.
  11. Light Wet Snow in Lancaster, getting gradually heavier. Edit: No it's not, it's getting lighter and 'Sleetier' C.L.
  12. Yes this is the one I'm focussed on now, definitely has intensified over the last hour or so.
  13. The Band of Showers Certainly seems to have intensified off the West Cumbrian Coast, It's just whether it's snow now...
  14. Yes a line of showers or 'streamer' developing along a line pointing North East of Preston all the way out into the Irish Sea and North of Ireland. Not sure on the type of precipitation, more snow inland I'd've thought with sleet on the Coast. My thermometer died during the last spell of snow so not sure about conditions here. http://www.raintoday.co.uk/
  15. Was very heavy for a time, now has returned to moderate. Can't complain though as it has left another cm C.L.
  16. Well you weren't wrong there! Has been pelting it down for about 10 minutes now after moderate/heavy snowfall for the previous 25 minutes.
  17. Been snowing moderately for the past 15 minutes here. Left a light covering so far
  18. Hurray! Finally! ^^^ Holding just around 0C here. C.L.
  19. I've noticed this also. My thermometer has packed in due to the snow, however it does feel less cold outside. The Beeb's forecast of snow contrasts against the temperatures showing on the met office site ATM which go for 5/6C overnight here with sleet and hail. Similar temperatures in Preston and South Cumbria are to be found. There's seems to be some sort of mix up to me, perhaps the Beeb are covering all bases after the large number of showers that have been missed in recent days... Anyone know the cause of the warming? C.L.
  20. That band is really intensifying as it hits land! Could be another couple of cm on the cards for some areas. C.L.
  21. Anyone in the North Lancashire area/extreme south of Cumbria, It looks like there is another band moving in off the Irish sea. Not as big as the one an hour ago but looks to have precip, Arriving in about half an hour I'd've thought. Currently 0.1C. Cloudy to the west, Dry.
  22. Well I've never been more shocked, had about an inch and a bit in the last half an hour. Thick heavy snow for the past half an hour, 50p flakes and all that. I feel as though I belong a bit more now! I'm going out to enjoy it. Just noticed TWS, it definitely has been. Edit Just stopped now. C.L.
  23. Has been fallling for the past 13 minutes. Went through a heavy phase for 2 minutes has been light for the rest. Now beginning to stop. Temperature 0.6C - Light snow Has Left the slightest of smattering on road surfaces. Edit: Seems to be a secondary band developing behind the first more substantial one. C.L.
  24. Fair point, Artistic licence We have lift off! Light snow drifting down now. C.L.
