  1. For the information of those down stream of this current snow fall from me. It started about an hour ago, has been moderate most of the time and still is falling moderately. Just checked and it appears 3 cm has fallen in the current fall. Temp -0.2°c DP -0.6°c Wind NxE 5 MPH
  2. The showers of the Suffolk/N Essex coast have just arrived I just got back in from visiting the sports centre about a mile away in town. The town roads round here are treacherous, not ramping when I say driving is like ice skating without the control. Since the last fall about 90 mins ago it has all been compacted by traffic and frozen to an ice sheet. Unless something changes like serious gritting there will be many accidents in the morning unfortunately so take it easy out there! Air temp 0°c Dew Point -0.7°c Wind NNE 12 MPH
  3. Been snowing here for about an hour. Some of the flakes have been the biggest I have seen (which includes the time I worked in Newfoundland during the winter!) It all appears to be moving through Essex towards London, so hopefully some of you guys who have missed out on decent amounts can be rewarded for your patience. Depth is about 9 cm now. A friend who has just got back from Romford says the roads round here are by far the worst on his route (A12/A120). I have told my wife that I wont burn the sleigh she bought last year as I previously blamed it for the lack of snow in this area lol
  4. Light snow recently started. The good old North Sea is doing it's stuff, lots seem to be bubbling up out there, coming this way and thankfully air temp and dew point now going in the right direction again...... bring it on Should see a topping to the 7 cm we had here earlier this morning Air temp +0.3 DP -0.7 http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ http://www.buienradar.nl/ http://www.meteox.co.uk/gmapstatic.aspx?zoom=6&type=zoom&x=215&y=242 Danny
  5. Just about stopped here now. A couple of local B roads closed due to snow. I hope the band of snow which we had keeps it's intensity for the rest of you as it moves south as we had moderate to heavy falls for some time. Now looking to see what that stuff in the North Sea is going to do. Also watching the temps creep up a little
  6. Temp 0.3c Dew Point -0.7c Approx 5 cm has fallen in Harwich area and still snowing, country roads are grim already. We must be close to northern edge of it all at the moment as Ipswich doesn't seem to have got much, if any Danny
  7. A question for the many knowledgeable technical people here. I hope it isn't in the wrong forum, pls delete if it is I have observed the temperature increase by about a degree over the last hour and the dew point is down by about 1 and a half degrees. The wind has increased by about 10 mph. I am surprised by the increase in air temp but the decrease in dew point. Could this be due to the upper air temps coming down considerably and the wind effect on the surface temps or am I wrong? Current temp 1.9c, dp -1.3c wind 14 mph approx
  8. The truth is we don't need to invest a lot of money into something which rarely happens. We have many people over here who can't drive properly in the snow but how much practice do we get? It's nice to see someone from abroad who is so understanding and knowledgeable about the British way of life. Did I detect a touch of arrogance in your message Publis? No surely not, you aren't from Britain but from a place where everything seems to be black or white
  9. Thanks you guys who are reporting to the north west of Harwich e.g Ipswich, Newmarket, Cambs etc. Gives me a feel what is heading towards me. Temp is now 3c but expecting it to drop if it gets overcast at all and thankfully dew point still below 0
  10. That is what I was looking at earlier but even now here it is snowing - short lived affair according to what is show on closer range radar but at least the car has a covering. Hopefully it will move far enough inland so you see it over there. Must only be 4 miles as the crow flies (albeit a slightly drunken one at this time of year). Current temp 1.2c dp = -0.6c
  11. I agree but it's New Bell tonight going to bore the arty types with talk of snow and weather models lol.
  12. Looking at the way showers have been grouping in the central North Sea and moving down towards East Anglia I am optimistic about falling out of the pub to watch the fireworks in some snow here in Harwich. I have seen how they tend to fade out due to less convection at night but they do seem to have a bit of persistence this evening.
  13. Moderate wet snow air temp 1.3 falling steadily, dew point 0.7 was rising now starting to fall
  14. When working as a navigation officer on a ship many times bigger than the P+O Bilboa ferry, crossing Biscay when going off watch in a gale, my wife lost her balance in the alleyway outside our cabin and slid across the width of the ship and back again and somehow I managed to grab her hand with my other holding the cabin door handle for my own balance. On the same crossing the table tennis tables in the gym turned to matchwood. Biscay can be very violent even for the large ships, your friend will be safe but may have a very bumpy ride.
  15. On the radar there is a second plume coming across the channel from Le Harve towards the Kent Coast. Worth a look
  16. Rain in Harwich. Back to reading the comments and models for another couple of years and hovering in background, great event for those who live towards London from here, not so wonderful here.
  17. Has anyone seen what sort of temperature difference there is inside the warm sector compared to outside as the low has come up through France. Would this give us an idea as to what to expect when it hits us here?
  18. At last some moderate to heavy snow, surely it's sticking in Clacton by now as it is here, only a few miles as the crow flies
  19. Looks like that finger has hit here light to moderate snow started about 10 mins ago. Still snow, not sleet, on the coast so a bonus for as long as it lasts
  20. Hail and snow combination. Seem to remember from my navigator's meteorology classes that cumulonimbus required for hail; perhaps some of the wise people here know the answer
  21. Looking at the clouds it looks like you guys in Ipswich are due for some more imminently, so near and yet so far
  22. Latest Shipping Forecast if it comes off expect lying snow to blow about near coast WindEast 6 to gale 8.Sea StateRough.WeatherWintry showers.VisibilityGood, occasionally poor. No sign of heavy clouds coming this way now. Air temp 0.6c, dew point -5.6c, barometer 1010 mb steady
  23. Take a look at this radar and what has developed in the Thames Estuary http://www.meteox.co.uk/h.aspx?r=&jaar...;soort=loop1uur. No snow since the 15 minute shower about an hour ago in Harwich (Essex Coast). Temp 1c dew point -5.7c, cloud coming from ENE.
  24. As I live on the east coast at Harwich I thought it would be fair to report to others that snow has just started here, just light and possibly a shower. Air temp has just fallen from 1.5c to 0c in 15 minutes
