  1. I don't know where else to put this, but I was sent this link in an email by a friend of the 62/63 winter and shows some footage of the railways and how they coped then...

(just to let you know, it is a bit arty and has an irritiating soundtrack but just look at the drifts and that people are shovelling all the snow with no gloves!)

The name of the train is " Barbados ". One extreme to the other........? :whistling:

  2. Wooooo interesting times ahead

The MiL has to pick her sister up from Lowestoft for Christmas choice to go Sat, Sun, Mon which day would you choose? Personally I said tomorrow and btw i'll drive you (her driver is in her 70's) anyone think Sun or Mon may be the better day for the journey?

BBC local weather just said Sunday should be dry with sun in the area. Don't know if that's any help.

  3. Well there is about 2 inches on the ground here but further up closer to the London area its probably easily 3-4 times that depth so to be honest its going to be a very tough journey f you are intending to do it.

I'd expect another 3-6 of snowfall from this front, quite amazing event I think and I suspect even conservative people would have to describe this event as exceptional, at least for the SE.

Thanks. So the worst part seems to be south of the Thames to about the North Downs?

  4. Hi.Newbie here. I've been following the posts for the last couple of days. I'm near Great Yarmouth.Overnight snow has virtually disappeared. Very small amount of rain/sleet at the moment. I was intending to travel down to the Chichester area today. Is it worth me bothering?

Route would be A12 to Brentwood,M25 to Dartford Crossing,M23 South to pick up the A27 to Chichester. Cheers.
