I don't know where else to put this, but I was sent this link in an email by a friend of the 62/63 winter and shows some footage of the railways and how they coped then...
(just to let you know, it is a bit arty and has an irritiating soundtrack but just look at the drifts and that people are shovelling all the snow with no gloves!)
The name of the train is " Barbados ". One extreme to the other........?

Very heavy frost outside , all is white
Same here. Looks about 1/4 " layer on the cars.

I'm in south Lowestoft and it didn't even make it this far it's still sunny
We're up near Belle Vue Park end.
-
If you look at the radar it was just an isolated shower, there will be a few around this morning but not many. Wait for early hours tonight when the front moves down
That's the problem. I'm on the 6 to 10 shift again. I just hope the roads are clear between Lowesoft and Reedham.

It's stopped now...Doh !!
-
Heavy snowfall settling ( finally ) in Lowestoft.

Wooooo interesting times ahead
The MiL has to pick her sister up from Lowestoft for Christmas choice to go Sat, Sun, Mon which day would you choose? Personally I said tomorrow and btw i'll drive you (her driver is in her 70's) anyone think Sun or Mon may be the better day for the journey?
BBC local weather just said Sunday should be dry with sun in the area. Don't know if that's any help.

Yes we now have a grand total of 0.000025mm of snow.
Edit: Sorry it has now dissapeared.
You missed a nought out !

Sleety snow now falling and settling.
-
Sun gone. Been replaced by a very dark cloud ! ( Lowestoft )
-
Sunny here in Lowestoft but we were going to pick something up from Lenwade, just outside of Norwich. We decided to call before setting off and it's blizzard conditions and settling there. ( 5 mins ago ). Amazing the difference in weather conditions 38 miles apart.

Suggest you stick to 'singing...'
Is that what you call it?

It's starting to settle on wet ground.Still heavy.

Chichester in West Sussex is considered to be the South East by the Met Office.
Thanks!!

Lots of fat heavy snow south of Chichester.
-
It's been clear skies and sunshine south of Chichester all day. Although 30 miles to the west , Southampton, and also the Isle of wight ,had heavy falls I hear.
-
Pagham Harbour ,on the coast , south of Chichester. There was no snow on the ground when I went to bed but abut 1 1/2 " has settled overnight.
-
Hi folks.Me again. I done the North Lowestoft to Chichester run. Roads were quite empty ,so it was like a Sunday afternoon drive and took the same time as it normally does.I had about 10 minutes heavy snow south of the Dartford Crossing and a few wisps here and there.Apart from that it was a good journey.
-
North Lowestoft.Very light drizzle ,no snow to be seen anywhere , it's all gone!!
-
North Lowesoft.Regular snow.Still not settling.
-
North Lowestoft.Fine sleet. Not settling.Roads and pavements just wet. Windy.

Hi Welcome
Thats an absolute no no. I wouldn't even consider it!
Ok,thanks I wont!! What are the chances tomorrow please?
-
Well there is about 2 inches on the ground here but further up closer to the London area its probably easily 3-4 times that depth so to be honest its going to be a very tough journey f you are intending to do it.
I'd expect another 3-6 of snowfall from this front, quite amazing event I think and I suspect even conservative people would have to describe this event as exceptional, at least for the SE.
Thanks. So the worst part seems to be south of the Thames to about the North Downs?

Hi.Newbie here. I've been following the posts for the last couple of days. I'm near Great Yarmouth.Overnight snow has virtually disappeared. Very small amount of rain/sleet at the moment. I was intending to travel down to the Chichester area today. Is it worth me bothering?
Route would be A12 to Brentwood,M25 to Dartford Crossing,M23 South to pick up the A27 to Chichester. Cheers.
