1. The Marmite syndrome, some love him, but some don't hence, the compliment and complaints in equal measure. but time to move on from this and back to the weather.

Yes i partially agree, but i would say that more love him than hate him , so i would call this the vanilla cheesecake syndrome.

It would be interesting to see how many people actually complain about Andy as opposed to those who support him?

Is there any access to this material?

Anyway roll on the weekend and one last blast before we enter March and SPRINGTIME!!

  2. Don't worry - just seen the GFS 18z - and once again a trend is really developing in FI (low res) - beginning of March sees a north easterly followed by an easterly - to go well into the month - which will continue keeping the cold and here in wales should allow lows to come up from the south/south west and feed off the cold and dump it's snow again and again

Noooo, i want spring !! i want spring!!

We could end up with some MEGA blizzards now!! thats ok , as long as it is not mega sleet fests.

I wonder if the met office will miss you out on the next blizzard forecast lol?

Apart from the main cities , we are rather sparsely populated , hence the main focus of the forecast being for the city areas of Wales.

  3. All the signs are that the blocking scenarios will continue and a few long term forecasters are forecasting a hot summer

It looks to be on permanent leave doesn't it - seems to have been partly responsible for the disaster on the island of madeira as well by dragging the atlantic storms south - on vacation - we'll just have to see

Will the jet stream ever come back?

Is this the end of the jet stream?

As the arctic ice melts during global warming, this could lead to the end of the the atlantic dross as we know it.

Global warming to equal cooling for the uk whilst other areas warm up (eg vancouver?)

Ice cold winters that we deserve for our latitude!

  4. sorry Pascals - I know you work outside - must be well chilling - but the weather is not in my control - all I can do is relay the signs that point to a certain type of weather occurin'

Im willing to trade in any further snowfall here for an extra few clear crisp days.

Or even next winter, you can take two inches of snowfall from Swansea to place on the graigerhorn , as long as you can forecast a few sunny days soon!.

Apologies to other people of Swansea for giving our snow away, but its going to a good home.

Which brings me onto the subject of snow theft.

If you remove all the snow from next doors garden, and place it in your own, is that classed as theft?

Ok it would be trespass , but theft?

Do we own the snow that falls in our garden? and if its a rental property can the landlord come and take it away?

  5. GFS 12z- just a little more to add - and this is for the low res part of the run - where only "trends" can be spotted - no real details - quite a few runs recently have been showing cold easterlies and today once again the same has cropped up - so - the 1st part of march may well turn out to be a cold one - dragging in the easterly air over britain - we shall see - that groundhog may yet be right.

Well Andy, i hope that you are wrong this time.

Whilst travelling from far west wales back to Swansea , i have seen snow over the higher ground, but generally wet mush and cold rain lower down.

I have enjoyed the last few days of nice cool sunny weather , and would much prefer this to the slash we have now.

Nowt worse than slashy slushy crud.

MEGA cold yes , MEGA mild yes, in between cold rain no thanks.

I hope your cold just brings clear days mr music.

Sorry folks but i have defected into the spring camp and am hunting the mild weather.

Time for that final curtain now.

Those who cant stand pascal the rascal will be pleased to know i was soaked to the bone today in heavy cold sleet/rain.

Come on father time speed up a little , and mother nature its time to give us 15 degree calm sunny days please.

The fluffy baby rabbits are on their way.

  6. Not quite June, but this was 6th April 2008, we were sleeping in the extension to the awning when we woke up to a snow covering. We were at Pandy, north of Abergavenny.

Nice pic there Joo, and looking at that road sign , i would say that there must have been a MEGA blizzard , all be it a short one.

Extremes of weather int it brilliant.

April - wow - nice pic Joo - just shows - winter can bite back anytime over the next two months or so - before we can finally dust off - or in my case buy a new one - those BBQs and get the steaks a cooking - I got an idea - may be we could have a get together over a burger one day in the summer and meet up - the welsh/cymru thread forum

Good idea, ill bring my data log book and loads of old charts to keep the conversation flowing.

Wonder if we will be able to get up the graigerhorn with all that June snowfall though?

  7. I understand that if it didn't happen to him, then it may be doesn't happen to anyone else - I can sympathise - but I got the 3 - 4 inches of snow outside nicely freezing over night now - so I suppose I shouldn't be bothered

"Blizzards have a negative impact on local economies and for days at a time can paralyze regions where snowfall is unusual or rare"

The above is evidence that you did not have a blizzard.

The blizzard that you say had a positive impact as it made you extra happy, and snowfall is not unusual or rare in your area.

Therefore on a technicality i rule in favour of no blizzard.

However after a re trial ,it was found that this was an Andy music blizzard , which is not defined in wikipedia.

So the jury is still out.........

Very heavy rain blown on a 3 mile per hour wind that looks like snow tease.gif

I suppose were it to be dark , and if you had a faulty street lamp giving off stroboscopic effects, whilst wearing some 3d glasses, and living at an altitude so high that the oxygen content makes you feel so merry, then it may well look like a blizzard.

Then again , the area Andy is in, today most definately had the heavy snow fall, and a few localised gusts would have made it a knife edge blizzard situation to say the least.

We just have to trust in Andy

    lol

    In Andy we trust.

  9. Funny that Adam cause the snow was being blown diagonally with the wind on top of the mountain where I live!whistling.gif

hehehehe what angle and how much does the snow have to fall to become a blizzard?

Need some of that technical jargon i slated the other day now.

What a terrible mistake that was.

Are talking any where between 45 degrees and horizontal?

How far do you have to be able to see??

Is there a special blizzard instrument that flashes when your in a blizzard? and can you see it flashing ? or is that just a fault with the instrument?

If Andy says he had a blizzard then he did indeed have a blizzard, an andymusic blizzard.

Most missed out today but not our hero mr music.

So tell us Andy how do you define your blizzards?

  10.
Black road is a pretty nasty single track country road - glad you saw for your own eyes what I was getting all day today - sorry I live at the top of a mountain (admittedly not that high) but the snow today was amazing - I've not seen snow in the summer yet (not as bad as dowlais top then) usually out in the garden with the cows and sheep catching some rays or mowing the oversized football pitch I got out the back - keeps me fit anyway - you should have called in mate - I would have made you a cuppa!

The snow line i would say varied in height, whilst travelling east to west in south wales earlier.

Around Pencoed for much of the morning was a heavy mixture of 60/40 mixture in favour of rain over snow.(guess thats rainy sleet then).

Slightly further east and later on the snow line appeared to be much lower, with a mainly snow/sleet mixture, and also the beginnings of the snow line could be seen only about 50-75ft higher, so i have no doubt that up where you are it must have been very heavy snow.

There is quite a bit of difference in height between ponty and pen y coed cae as it is.

Lucky Andy gets his snow once more lol.

I think some people are frustrated with the sleety mush they had.

I missed out today, as i was just inder the snow line.

I guess that will please a few people.

But hey win some lose some.

  11. Boys, boys put your handbags down! I think what pascals was trying to say is that this is a much more relaxed forum than some of the others which cannot be named! All the talk of LP, HP, FI, UKMO, GFS 12Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz - does tend to leave you a little bit lightheaded particularly when it does not actually transpire!!! Actual data is good, it gives us a picture of what's happening around Wales and what might come. That's my opinion anywaywhistling.gif

    E x

Correct ,that is what i was trying to say.

When did i ever say 99% on here were incredibly boring?

Lol talk about a play on words.

    tee hee hee.

1.There is information which most like to look at (note i did not say 99%).

2.There are the more technical parts that which many do like to look at and also many do not.

3.Then there are the real dull technical jargon posts, which only a select few like to look at.

Then there are the additional posts like Andys which make it worthwile reading this forum.

The additional posts fill the voids of when its not snowing, and they keep this message board ticking over.

If the debate is not kept alive by light hearted interjections, then the debate dies.

Rather like marmite, love it or hate it ,Andy music is the main reason this message board is as active as it is.

Sorry to compare you to marmite Andy lol

  12. Still coming down heavy here

I think you deserve all the snow this week Andy.

Your positive and refreshing attitude has made it a pleasure to take part in this forum.

If it was not for your posts and one or two others on here this forum would be incredibly dull ,with nothing but boring technical jargon that most dont really understand.

    Hehehe

    yahoo.gif snow for andy!!yahoo.gif

  13. snowing again here - total white out on senghenydd mountain!

Too wet for any snow to stick right now - but that will change with colder nights coming - uppers are now -5 and the prospects for the next couple of weeks are good too

Strike that - Senghenydd mountain now has a nice white covering from that last snow shower! - so around 300m at the mo something can settle even in the middle of the day with the sun! - what's possible at night eh!

More data to add to the log.

I need more temperatures and dew points please.

The log will be printed at the end of winter.

  14. I'm signing out til next december (unless.....)

I've composed a song to sum up my feelings over the last couple of months. Best sung in a scandanavian car (a volvo perhaps)

Thank you Andymusic, the snow you're bringing,

Thanks for all the joy you're giving,

Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty,

    What would life be?

Without some snow on the ground what are we?

So I say thank you Andymusic

    For ramping just for me!!!!!!

    drinks.gif Ourson

    That was a good post.

    I have no soul.

There's loads of snow on our tv - watching olympics - mens downhill was awesome

Thanks for your creativity - loved the song - I do try not to ramp and tell it like it is but, I would say - I'm a skier at heart and I love the snow!

I am though - in the summer a fan of thunder storms - although when they get extremely nasty - and I've had one blow a computer up on me - then it can get a bit scary - especially living on top of a mountain!

think we'll have a little snow in the morning - early hours as the cold tucks in - then snow will come to us if the front moves back over us wednesday/thursday

    That could be good.

Could you give me your temperatures and dew points so i can log the data.

When this forum closes i will give you a copy of this winters data.

  15. And you can add the 24 hours of continuous snow we may get if the GFS 00Z is right - right through from 12 midday wednesday to 12 midday thursday as the front that passes through on monday night/tuesday morning (backedge snow) - stalls and then goes into reverse and comes back over Wales and then stalls again dropping it's snow in our now colder air!

There is a chance those charts will verify.

There is a chance that things may be good for snow.

There is also a chance that this will not verify.

The chances of it not veryfying mean the chance of snow will decrease possibly.

It is not very cold here at the moment.

I do not know what the dew point is.
