Once upon a time, in a land far far away, lived an Ice Queen who gave out cold weather and snow to lucky people in the South East of her extensive domain. Some years, when she was feeling particularly benevolent, she spread white joy for months on end and gave countless thousands days of no school, no work and lots of sledging and snowman-making. Other years, for no apparent reason, she was displeased and the land to her South East were barren and snowless - nobody knew why she was such a miserable baggage on those occasions and everybody was sad. She teased the good folk of 'Southeasternshire' with pictures and charts of her potential gifts, for many days into the future, showing what she might bring if they were all good and paid their taxes.

Can you see the lovely picture she showed them boys and girls????

Truly beautiful and the Queen's not too ropey either...

  2. OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG This snow is twice as deep as the last fall!!! Everything is covered thick! Will try and get some pics up soonies..It froze over so snow balls are a no no today....But looks magical out there!

You lucky, lucky people.....Guess what, nothing, zilch here on the east coast but that was always hopecasting for me that the system MIGHT include us but not even a sausage :sorry:

Also, I have just looked at the models to dream about that amazing northerly....only to find it's a high pressure now slap bang over the top of us - not good....So, hoping that the high progresses westwards on subsequent model runs....A busy day, an informal meeting with a boss followed by a hospital visit for my dad....Nice! :sorry:

  3. met office for kent has changed from dry to light snow for this evening (maidstone/canterbury/whitstable)...... we shall see if its more than the snizzle/flurries weve had over the last few days...... also it has suddenly put norwich for heavy snow from 9am?

I am liking that a lot! lol! Will it snow in FAVERHAM - might in Faversham lol!

  4. Well looking at the radar of the band(s) of rain, sleet and snow, it's arking right out towards the north sea, a good sign as it progresses south too me.

The further it goes out towards the North sea, the greater chance as our ENE'ly winds will drag in that area over a bigger area of the SE later today and our chances of seeing snow, not just reserved for the NW parts of London etc.

Can you post a chart to verify? Cheers

  5. BBC not keen on it getting east of London

It then drops down south and west

Still time for some change yet

Perhaps but even thought the latest GFS run isn't anything to get overly excited about, I have looked at the precip type charts and it shows SE getting plenty thursday into friday - not sure how to link to this forum but you can see this in charts section - so all to play for!

  6. morning macro snow cover here- dandruff / graupel-

-2c & very cloudy, odd flake in the air

UKMO raw says some snow flurries today around midday-

Also the UKMO the best overnight run wtih snow here Friday- GFS reasonable

    Morning Steve

I think GFS is not so good this morning - UKMO looks great and a better northerly....However, what do you think about the BBC mention for snow will it make it into our world? Or do you think it will die out before it reaches us?

  7. Really cold ere this morning -3.6 , blue skies , but all that slush and snow has turned to stone this morning , rubbish men havent been either so roads must be a nightmare hoping for some more low temps tonight along wth maybe some snow flurries., loving this weather ,hope it stays for at least another week wth morE shots of potential snow ??

Greetings to Ramsgate from the Bay...

GFS looks a stonker as does the ECM! Have you seen the "Beauty of the Beast!" lol after that ECm shows a northerly can you believe that?!! BBC also going for snow flurries for kent from as early as tomorrow nice one eh?

  8. Noticed that as well. Easily the coldest temperature I've ever seen from that area!

I really hate to do this, I've tried to look at the NAE and the GFS precipitation charts to get an idea but I'm not too sure... When do people expect the snow to hit here in West Kent? From what I've seen I'm expecting around 9pm...

you would be about spot on there for west kent.....I anticipate 10pm for my area - weird to think likely to be asleep during most of the snowfall...if the front stalls however, we might be in for prolonged snowfall tomorrow morning!

  9. I've got my itchy snow nose today, it only really starts like this when there are huge amounts due.......

Now not that models area lot of use now, but just having a look at this morning 06Z GFS, the sweet spot in terms of time is still between 00..00 tonight and 06.00 tomorrow morning (as it has been for 10 days!) and the line at that time-scale goes back and forward across Beachy Head!!!!

I'm sure people to the West of me will still end up with something very pleasing, but I may be unable to get out of the house and unfortunately, be off work for days....

    :clapping:

    Morning COAST et al

Yep, GFS 06z looks very tasty indeed and from where I am sitting, looks like we could get hit very hard on the North East coast (See avatar) what are you thoughts? According to NW, the snow for my area continues until 3pm sunday lol! :good:

  10. Wise words... someone asked me this morning when is the heavy snow coming... my answer was simple "things are far too difficult to be exact at present, and too many things have happened this week to be accurate. It could be Saturday night late etc..." - I tell you people just do not realize that we are dealing with a heap of information that all has to come in line for it to happen, you just can't please some people.

    :rofl::fool::p

Hello coastal "neighbour"!! Yep, agreed, they are only keen to know...like you say, too many things to take into account. Having looked through the charts I'd say the cold will last to the end of next week if the high retrogresses and it will stay cold up until then for us in the SE particularly as far east as we are....All in all, a radar would be useful today as I think the north sea will deliver some gifts at times today even if just snowy grains....The sea does indeed look cold whilst walking my dog I noticed that little pockets of moisture had frozen and that was two days ago!

  11. The Frontal snow event saturday into sunday.. and quite possibly lasting longer than the weekend..

One precipitation model NAE shows significant snowfall across the EA/SE, in fact looking like we should all get snowed in.. GFS appears to have it snowing forever from saturday night when it all starts, i think now we can be sure that we would see snowfall on the ground by sunday, how much exactly is just not predictable at this range, it could be some places get more than expected-this happens.

But before the main event everyones is talking about there is something else springing up from the North Sea-well it should do! if it does not appear dont blame me! really this feature running down the North Sea is looking rather interesting, how much snow falls in Kent/EA i cant really say, but i would expect quite a few cms if the weather system moves close enough, it could just skim the coast(east side) so be aware snow fans it could be a brusher, but it does seem something interesting is building up, this being later friday into saturday, i have drawn up a map to indicate where i think would see snow from this feature.

Inland towards the pink box is low risk-but potential is there, the blue box is the high risk zone and thats most likely where events would happen being nearer the coast

    post-11361-0-35479400-1328244626_thumb.g

(i might be to busy to do another map for the weekend frontal snow event, but i hope to be reading though and post when i can do!)

Quite simply, fabulous! One thing though, where are you getting your info? I am fascinated. I have looked at the three main models this morning and they are juicy! After the event, and I suspect for us in the SE corner, we are looking at an event that starts today and continues until after sunday! The models also show a retrogression of the high (re-run if you like) and this will draw in raw northeasterly winds....Precipitation looks likely too and that can only mean one thing....further snowfall! How exciting...but, ELECTRIC, could you post what you are basing your thoughts on please....ta!

  12. No, I disagree, there's no 'hating the SE'.....we loath it!...lol....just kidding.....it's no coincidence that several of the more regular model output contributors reside in the south east region so it's only natural to place a slight emphasis on that area and there's absolutley nothing wrong with that, as long as it's made apparent in the relevant post in the model output, otherwise confusion can & will reign in that thread and from that the bickering starts......so with that in mind, lets draw the line under it and continue the regional discussion...thanks :)

Synoptically speaking - it is our turn - quite simple - Mother Nature has decided this - Not us. Enjoy - I will!

  13. Morning!

yes, she looked rather gorgeous too as she said snowman....lol! Was always looking good as that low travelled to France! Looking at the models this morning and it looks like GFS has backtracked somewhat from the bulldozer that it was yesterday.....I can see the potential for an easterly re-load, certainly north easterly which in some respects can deliver the wintry goods just as nicely! All to play for and all in all a good ouput from the models! :good:

  14. Not enough time to attach charts right now

ECM 00Z into FI is showing a colder trend :cold:

GFS 06Z into FI is also showing a colder trend :cold:

It will be very interesting to see what both models show this evening :D

    HIYA YAMKIN!

Looking at the GFS it shows plenty of eye candy regarding cold with a high out to the east retrogressing nicely northwards to bring down the cold it is outside of the reliable FI timeframe and would need another four runs or so to become a trend for me....Let's see tho' for now this thread will probably be quite quiet given there isn't anything that interesting in the output other than what you have posted about lol!

    :pardon:

  15. Sure some think I have been negative about my posts but at least I have never declared winter is over.

All I am saying is wait untul the weekend to see if we will know if we get another cold blast or not.

It certainly looks like it will be colder this week then last week but don't think we will see any of the white stuff but you never know.

Now let's see what this time next week brings.

GFS is showing some interesting stuff.....However even if it were to verify, coastal areas would be most affected not likely to make it that far inland (precipitation that is) Still if GFS is right and the other two main models ECM and UKMO join it - It's game on for winter's final scene in the show...lol!

    :drinks:

  16. Sleeting here atm?? Is that possible???

Morning! I would have thought so. we had sleet here in Herne Bay yesterday and as I looked up at the clouds, they looked like the typical fluffy wintery variety lol! (Please excuse my expert cloud terminology) expect more to come and turn more flake like. i would say anywhere in the SE corner could say a dusting perhaps if streamers get going maybe more over Thursday/friday...l
