  1. Great! how do we manage to go for weeks with hardly a drop of rain, to having too much rain?? Luckily i live on a small hill, so it doesn't flood here! can't say the same for the river in town though!!

I know, last month we were close to drought and no we could be close to flood. Man I hate the weather

  2. Wow. What an interesting night ahead for some people. It's really calm here, not a breath of wind. Theres plenty of rain to come for the South tonight. South Wales may miss the worse though.

Yeah looks as though most of Wales will get missed but SE Wales should get something - NAE is pointing to 20-30mm for SE Wales.

EDIT: Possibly upto 40mm for SE.

  3. Who are these Positive Weather Solution people anyway, I had never heard of them until last year and its seems as though the newspapers get these stupid stories from them constantly. Their website is terrible and they seem to just put these stories out there to get some attention. I agree with you all that the Met office will get the blame for it.

Havent the newspapers ever heard of NetWeather.tv :)

  4. The IOW lightning strike detector? Its now showing one strike, in the North Sea off Scotland. Im not sure how much faith I place in the data from these detectors, but Im new to this and open to opinions, do they get the distance and direction wrong much?

I find they're not all the best. When you look at a couple of different detectors at the same time you will notice that they all differ on location. I find that either the NetWeather system or Blitzortung are fine though as these use multiple detectors. This is of course this is for another topic.

  5. Looking forward to the next 24hrs.

I'm looking forward to the next few days!! I think the charts are looking quite favourable at the moment for me and to be honest even if I just had a bit of thunder I would be happy as I havent even had that so far this year.

This is what the Met Office have for me:

    "Tuesday:

Occasional rain in the morning, becoming heavy, persistent and perhaps thundery in south Wales by lunchtime. Heavier rain will then spread to many southern and eastern areas through the afternoon. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

    Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Remaining unsettled on all three days with sunshine and showers, the showers locally heavy with thunder at times. Becoming somewhat drier for Friday. Temperatures generally around normal."

Which is the most exciting forecast I've had so far. Also think there may be a slight tornado risk for The Midlands during Tuesday afternoon/evening and Wednesday.

  6. Thats very interesting mate, here in Swansea yesterday, we had a fairly heavy thunderstorm that passed and dropped 13.8mm in under 30 minutes.

Yeah I was looking at lightning strike data earlier and there seemed to be strikes recorded to the East and West of Cardiff but a gap over actual Cardiff. I think if a cell had passed over there would have atleast be some thunder in it but nothing passed over.

I got the strike data from UKASF:

You may have to toggle the lightning overlay on.
